- Our 73 Runner is the happiest highway/road tripper we have. Mechanically she's all there but needs a lot of work in the way of cosmetics and detailing.
Here's a quick walk around and ride in our favorite Malaise era Mopar.

IABSOLUTELY LOVE MOPAR.... NOTHING EVEN COMES CLOSE TO STYLE AND PERFORMANCE....PERIOD
Back in the day I wouldn't have looked at a '73 RoadRunner, now I'd probably give my right arm for one! How things have changed!
I had a 72 Cutlass"S" with a 350 2bbl and headers, Turbo 350 Transmission. Nice car, However now at 56, I wish I would have known more about the Mopar world in my youth Tony. This is my favorite car ! Such a mint body style "John"
I wouldn’t touch a 71-74 B-body. The B-bodies I’ve built and owned have all been 66-69; 68-69 Chargers, 67 GTX, 69 Road Runner, a 68 Barracuda FB, 71 and 72 Scamp, and a dozen 67-72 Darts
17 cars? Sounds like its time for another Uncle Tony's cold start extravaganza.
Only 17? Those are rookie numbers. I do agree a bunch of cold starts would be entertaining.
Cold start on a riding mower and weed wacker!
@@benpluta6187 that would be about as exciting! Who in the he’ll came up with this cold start bullshit anyways? That’s all you hear anyone say anymore, wanna see a cold start? Lol
I grew up mid 60’s to early 80’s and never once did you ever hear this cold start. It’s gotta be some kids UA-cam stuff they started for views I guess but it’s the stupidest thing I’ve ever seen, lol
It's more an aviation thing among the tuners / builders of the old ww2 fighter engines...so no not kids
@@trenttipton3876 yeah a P&W 2800 cold starting is a thing of awesomeness. An Alison cranking up is less impressive than a big radial, but still cool.. I'd kill someone to get my very own P40E or N.
Those 340 s hurt many big blocks feelings ,, very under rated !!!
MY L79 small journal 327 hurt a lot of 340 s feelings
@@ljbrizo My 440 hurts all 327 feelings and even 427..454..Even new 6.2 Camaro,Corvette's,5.0 Mustangs,302,351,427,428,429,460 etc...It runs low 10's in the 1/4 looking stock, runs 11.17 right now because of reproduction bias ply tires with brand new tread, they spin like crazy, one I wear them down they hook better.
340 ate lots of GM&Ford cars..they would only beat another Mopar if the driver was sleeping or his car was running on 6 of the 8 cyl! or a 340 Dart with 4.56 gears raced a 1970 Charger RT S.E with a full tank of gas and 2.76 axle ratio and one wheel peel, dont ask me how I know..Okay you beat it out of me I will tell you..my buddy had a 340 Dart and I the Charger with a 2.94 my 3.54 Dana blew sky high and spare parts at the wreckers only had 8 3/4 with 2.76 from a Satellite! Dont worry it went back to the Dana once I had money to build it,it was winter anyways, lots of rain.I still beat 396 Chevelle's and Ford anything!
@@01trsmar takes a mopar to catch a mopar
@@ljbrizo many 340's took l79's down .
In 1977 a friend of mine bought a 74 Roadrunner.... Blue with a white stripe, blue interior, 318, a/c, automatic, console and bucket seats. He never smiled when he drove it. That was probably because it did not have a 340 with a 4 speed. That's a nice car brother. Thanks for taking us along for a ride !!!
You can tell by the look on UTG face ,,, you really love that car .. nice ...
I never really cared for them either and they grew on me when I was helping my buddy with his 73 340 Auto Roadrunner..
73+ is when the RoadRunner started getting portly. Still beautiful cars, big girls need love too!
Had a 73 roadrunner in the 80,s. Had a 400 / 727 in it. Miss that car.
The smile on his face while driving that car is really priceless 👌
Ah, memories of my 74 Satellite Sebring. I miss that car.
I’ve been waiting for a roadrunner vid again! I got a 73” 400 roadrunner myself
Correct me if I’m wrong was the 400 the biggest engine you could get for that year, or could you still get the 440.
@@j.lthecarguy5020 you could still get a 440 in 73’ and 74’
@@nicholasford1769 cool thanks for the info, the factory 440 RoadRunners of 73 and 74 must be rare. But then again I guess you could say that for any 73 or 74 without a 318.
@@j.lthecarguy5020 no problem, but for these roadrunners the smog stuff really blocked there potential.
What style of an intake and name-brand intake manifold are you running on that
'73 roadrunner always been one of my favorite mopars ever since seeing Daisy Duke ripping hers around!!!!
You are probably one of the few classic car guys that dont mind someone smoking in their car . Nothing like a smoke and a drive.
Oh hell yes! Been wondering about this car for a while now
Had me two of those roadrunners. A 340 automatic and a 74 400 4 speed. Loved them both. Did 138 miles per hour in the 340 car.
Pretty aerodynamic body. As the later Gas Crisis cars aged, a hot cam in a 120,000 mile engine and 2.73 (or taller) gears had some outrageous top ends. Plenty of stories.
I really find magic that smile... She must be a pleasure to drive
Wish i could buy my dad one he had one back in the day this video made me feel old memories
Tony. I bought one of these brand new in 1973, Rally Red, white interior, A/C with a 318. I know, a 318, but, I built that sucker up with Direct Connection parts and it would shit and get! Had it for 18 years when one Sunday morning, some kid in mommy's Bonneville T-boned it! It was like my best friend died or something. It was just too far gone to bring it back to life. That kid hit my car so hard that the rear pumpkin and leaf springs were ripped off the car. I came out of it without a scratch. I had planned on keeping that car forever. My family owned a autobody shop so keeping it looking great was not a problem. I sure miss that car! Bill from Linglestown Pennsylvania.
What a cool little mill. Those 340s are a perfect match with a Chrysler 833.
Ya gotta dig the trap door breather. Great combo for sure
Who cares about the imperfections on the car... You obviously enjoy it ...So just drive and enjoy it 👍🇺🇸
Dad had a 73 swinger 340. Loved it. Nimble and quick. Large but light.
Hey Uncle. My family owned a small Chrysler Plymouth dealership. As a high school senior, I ordered a '73 Roadrunner to replace my '72 Duster Twister. Not going crazy with big power as a way to order what I wanted, I specified a 318 auto with the new dual exhaust for the 318. It was B5 blue with white buckets and white tape stripes. It was a beautiful car. Growing tired of waiting for it to get there, I chose a dark green '73 Duster 340 auto from the inventory. What a great car that was with the white bucket seated space Duster option. I never regretted my choice although I had my share of Dusters (the fresh air vents were great, they hold 1.5 six packs). We did have a '73 Sebring Plus as a demo that I was able to drive from time to time and it was great.
To all the young fellas out there, here is real a car. No bullshit, no computers no canbus, no garbage, just a damn sweet car.
I meet people all the time at car shows, they seem to always want to apologize for the condition of their cars.I find them all beautiful,no matter the shape, the fact they are still around Is awesome, enjoy them the way they are.
Love the Bird, Uncle T 👌 She's just right for a driver. One thing I enjoy about your cars and channel so much is that almost all of your rides remind me of what my cousin (who was practically my brother bc we were inseparable lol) and his high school buddies were dailying and racing at Union Hill back in the late 90s. I was around 9 years old when he got into Mopars, and young impressionable mind was absolutely blown by everything those cars were and stood for lol.. : Every noise, from the creaks and clunks from their old age to the glorious and throaty echoes coming out the chambered exhaust of some and glasspack exhaust of others . Every smell, that unmistakable formidable musk of a classic Mopar interior is like no other lol. And that very first time I opened the door to his '70 Coronet 500 for that 'just bought it so let's cruise it' ride, that sweet aromatic weathered and worn upholstery scent smacked my young self upside the nose like Cassius Clay served the swing himself 😆 Gah i could go on forever but I feel like my time would be best used elsewhere lol. ✌ Catch y'all later!
My first car when i was 16 was a 72 Roadrunner. A guy from the neighborhood had it and i bugged the hell out of him until he sold it to me. 440. Air grabber. Bucket seats. Console with Slap Stick shifter. I traded him an old Honda CB175 motorcycle and $100 cash. This was in 1979.
I love these cars, when I was a kid my neighbor had a green 73 like this. Those were much much better times.
You really understand cars. I’m glad that one is in your care.
Love that car, it's the first car I bought when I was 18, forty years later, I still have, I can never sell it, too many good memories!
I have a 1974 rr silver with red stripe, first car I bought at 16. drive it to high school, 24 years later I still have. absolutely great car to drive
Absolutely beautiful story man.... I still have my first truck.... 1957 GMC stepside... I have had it since the 1990s... And i have zero plans to sell....
Welcome to the Uncle Tony's Garage show and tell..
Oi oi oi!!
That was fun. Thank you. I had a 73 Satellite Sebring in high school. 318 car. I now have a 73 in the shop planned to put a 1968 stroked 383 RR engine
in.
Always great to see a smile on someone’s face who truly loves what he has
Great job
Miss my 69 GTS
Thanks for finally giving this car the spotlight. For some reason, I've always wanted to see more of this Than any other car in the fleet.
Many years ago my brother had a red 1970 Super Bee with a 440 (NOM). It had the orig pistol grip 4spd and a 323 rear. It was AWESOME. He took a chance and bought it, not running, really cheap, and all it needed was a starter. He sold it, really cheap, when he blew the rear. Wish we had it back now!
That grin Tony gets is the same that I have when I drive my old stuff. They may not be the most fast cars, but they are the most fun
This is the best video so far this is honesty no bs,Im not a huge fan but I can appreciate any guy who builds their own car and fixes their own car.
It's what being a car guy is about although some buy their way which never made sense to me.
Why not buoild something get banged up and be proud when it's done.
You have more appreciation for the car.
You built a car with a factory specs in mind by keeping it orignal.
Sometimes these old cars need to be restored and kept as orginal as possible when they are rare.
If everyone changed the paint and modfied them we wouldn't have any originals left and then what would be original?
He knows what a car is supposed to be. Doesn't force it out of it's element. Smart man
Hi Uncle Tony and Uncle Kathy It’s nice seeing your other cars out and a little History on them Can’t wait to see the 68 Road Runner out
And all the work you did on. It.. ✌🏼
Glad you decided to show us this car in more depth. I've been curious about it ever since you started the channel. thanks
I remember going into a new car showroom when I was a kid and sitting in a brand new Road Runner, wishing I had one. Watching this brings back memories. of that.
I bought a new 1973 Roadrunner and I liked the bucket seats , that's what it came with and it was a ROADRUNNER !
There is something just downright pleasant about puttering around in a torquey wide ratio stick car.
66. Charger my first car at 15.
They are still one of the coolest mopars to me. I've had many mopars since and the charger is still the one I wish I found a way to keep
My 69 barracuda 340 4spd was a close second
I bet I built half a dozen of those road runner model kits when I was a kid- I love the look of that car
Just the joy you see in uncle Tony's face while driving that car is why I love old muscle cars, you never get that driving a modern car
My 73 Road Runners had bucket seats, stripes, and the RR purple horn that went meep meep. Never went beep beep. My 73 Satty I bought when stationed at Fort Carson in 1978 was a basic Satty. Bench, standard dash, 340 engine, am radio, no carpet. Worked for a young soldier. In my basement I have stored a complete white leather interior for my someday-in-the-near-future-before-I-die-RR rebuild. Well, headliner and carpet aren't white leather, but the door panels are! I even have a Craig Powerplay 8 track tape deck with 8 track tapes in the basement. Bought my first 73 Bronze Bird back in 1975. I miss that view from the driver's seat looking out over the bulge hood. I'm glad it's a real RR and not one of those clones. Road Runner and Sattys had completely different vin because they were sold as different cars. Minor differences in the models. Satty's rear windows rolled down, Road Runners rear windows didn't, etc. Good video. Have fun with the Road Runner!
I got something out of it alright you just made my day thanks man awww the good old days when cars rattled and banged when you drove them thanks alot bro 👍cheap trick blasting out of the eight track and all you could smell was little hint of oil and gas the good old days when cars were really cars
And, you could always get home if you broke down. With only a few hand tools in the trunk my 1970 Plymouth 440's never left me on the side of the road...well...one time in college I ran out of gas as the gas gauge decided to quit working and I had to walk to a station but that was the only time and still didn't need to be towed.
Yes, the smells........but I like the way ya feel the motor even more. And it doesn't need to be "a power/torque monster".........just a nice, stout pull. There really is an overall "organic" experience with the classics vs these tight, sterile feeling new cars. I owned quite a few classics back in the day. But honestly, I think I miss my '66 Chevy fleet-side short wheel-base full custom cab PU truck with a hot 327 ( that replaced the original 283 ) more than anything. The truck was totally rebuilt when I bought it. I'm still kicking myself for selling it yrs ago......
Black Oak Arkansas blasting "Hot Rod" out of the twin rear speakers while trying to order at the DQ drive-thru. LOL In addition to the Thrush header mufflers.
Awesome video uncle T. I have a factory 4 speed 340 roadrunner, white with black stripe and BENCH SEAT!. Makes me smile like that every time i drive it, although it drives on the left hand side of the road now in New Zealand!
I, for one, enjoy seeing the rest of your fleet. I enjoyed the ride along
I have a mist green '73 Roadrunner and I've gotten so many compliments! I just got it 2 years ago and have already won trophies at car shows! 💚
This is the kind of guy you want to hangout with, shoutout to UT
Hi Tom, love the old school, I got rid of my fuel injection and put a carb and changed the distributor to a one wire, but now on new cars there is no place for a distributor, are you ever gonna change a new car over with another type of old school ignition, no one on you tube has done it yet, love your channel , mike
Who's Tom?
I ment Tony, lol
You can put a distributor on LS engines.
A few videos back Richard Holdner had a guy with a distributor powered LS engine. He told how he did it.
Love it thx
When I was 17
My dad was a Chrysler dealer
Ordered in a silver with black stripes 74 road runner
I got to drive it 12,000 miles
Loved it
As a former 1973 roadrunner owner, I think the best thing about them was the stripes and the hood, and they kept the horn.
71-74 roadrunners and satelites are my favorite mopars
thanx for the ride, looks like a fun car to buzz around town in
Thanks for the ride!
Love Uncle Tonys smile, when he cracks the throttle on his cars. LOL. 1967, and 1970 in my opinion, was the best year for the big 3. they had the best looking cars in those years.
Yes the Plymouth RoadRunner, my dream car. Too bad I just can’t find one right now that’s within the budget and not completely clapped out. Really love seeing them though, Thanks Tony👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾.
Where are ya located
Hey, the Seabring Satellite plus is pretty much same car without the rr badges.Keep on the hunt there still out there.
Hello Tony,
Had two 1974 Roadrunners. Great cars. Wish I had one of them again.
Awesome video thanks again. Helps me remember growing up. My dad had a GTX. and a 70 chevelle. 396 ss. I think my favorite was the GTX. The knowledge and way of thinking is what car people? AMERICA. NEEDS Kind of funny but i feel warm and fuzzy when watching your videos like this one!! Lol. Thanks for preserving the best times of my life 🙏🏼💯
Dad was selling cars wholesale when I was in high school
I drove so many different cars while he bought and sold them between dealers.
Anyway, one of my fond memories is of a 69 or 70 Dodge Dart Swinger 340 4 Barrel.
That car was a kick.
Tony looks like a happy man behind the wheel.
Uncle Tony I wish I had you around when I was building my cars back in the day. Mopar all day, all the way
My brother had 73 clapped out body and wiring , 383 with 4 speed pistol grip ! When he shifted into it hard, it felt like the dash was going to slap your face ! Late 80 s good memories thanks for the ride !
Even videos of the maintenance is worth watching man!
I had a 1974 Sebring 318 hp. Blue 1\2 white top. When I was in the service. 2 barrel. Auto. 1st +-50mph,2nd +-90 to float the valves. Would give anything to have that car today! I beat it to death. Timing chain change only thing mechanicaly I ever broke!!! Best fun of my life.
I had a bare bones 74. 318 automatic. No power breaks, no power steering or AC. Not even tinted glass. Some suspension upgrades however. Some guy ordered it from the factory and never took delivery. Wasn't fast. It was hard to drive, but looked really cool. I loved driving it. Paid $2600 new. Wore it out at sixty thousand miles and sold it for $400 in 1981.
You have no idea how jealous I am, this really makes me miss my 70 Demon. That was one of the happy (grin on my face) fun drives!
I love the sounds of a healthy Mopar V8. Nice deep rumble.
About time you showed this car.I think they look the best for me.
My first car was a 74 Satellite Sebring . Awesome car. Raced it a lot . Beat it hard and still drive great. Love it.
I love cars that are not over the top but the mods are cohesive and work well. Nice set up UTG
Excellent, the Road Runner is on the streets! Thanks for sharing. The 1968 340 4 speed motor was the best of the production 340s. The cam must have been a part of it.
I had one in a ‘70 dart swinger just like the orange one he started the video by - man that thing was no slouch I could take the 440’s off the line, they hated to see me show up to race in that thing
I was headed to the diner this morning in my pos explorer and something made me think of my first car . I didn't want to sell it but my dad didn't want me to leave it at home when I went into the service in '75 . I like your cars Tony . My favorite is the '67 charger . I've always loved the '68 '69 roadrunners
I would love a 73-74 roadrunner, always thought they looked really cool.
I love your channel bro I just came across it iam going to sit and watch some of your videos thanks man
@Can am Dennis if I were you I would clear my schedule for the next couple of days . The amount of knowledge UTG puts out on this channel is mind blowing . I have been watching Tony’s videos about year and half now and have learned more about the mechanics of Mopar engines drivetrains than I ever thought possible just by watching these videos . The way Tony gets the most performance out of whatever he may be working on is second to none . He is like the Yoda of anything that runs on gasoline.
I've been doing to hear that 340 fire to life! Now I'm waiting for that awesome Roadrunner in the garage!
I'll never drive a stick shift again. A below thw knee amputation on my right leg makes it more difficult. This episode takes me back to my first car; a 1956 ford with a 292 block, 312 heads and an 1150 carb. Hated the green color, but but loved the go!!! I was 17 and going in the Marines.
You got to make a custom limb that attaches to the clutch. That way you always know where that left limb is at.
Love it! I’ve got a 73 road runner GTX that I’m working on myself
Oh boy,the smile on your face is priceless. Thanks for all the inspirational content brother man!
Cheers from Ohio.
From 1988 to 2005 i delivered Dominoes pizza's in the evenings on weekends for extra cash and fun. My cars were always Mopars, at different times i drove a 69' red Roadrunner 383 console / auto, a 66' cream color Satelite 383 auto/console, a green 74' Challenger 318 with a cam and dual exhaust, a 71' Satelite 318 dual exhaust and cam, soo much fun i had back then ! Good tips too ! Always delivered hot pizza's within 30 minutes !
Great video UT,had a 73'340 727 83/4 back in the day.And it was a well balanced enjoyable ride, quick decent mileage fun to drive.Red with the black stripe package. And yes,,,I should have kept it.
I grew up with those mopars around me. Especially the 71 72 chargers
You look so happy driving that car. Nice!
340 automatic with a slap shifter and bucket seats. Excellent
My ol friend had a 74 RR. He pulled the small block and dropped a 440 police interceptor into it. That was the torque ist car Ive been in since my 70 RR.
I had a ‘73 340 auto (w/shift kit) red with black interior and stripes and I absolutely loved that car ! I wish I had never sold it but I wanted to go racing and needed the money , not so bright , right ? Every single one I’ve seen since then doesn’t have that color combo and everybody I’ve talked to says they want that . I normally don’t care for a red car but it looked great on the ‘73 Roadrunner ! I still miss her .
Tony- I sold & traded off a lot of Mopar cars & parts over the years. In the end, I just needed a solid rig to put together and enjoy. Too many of the cars just sit and aren't enjoyed, for a plethora or reasons. In the end, I settled on an "End-run" '76 Valiant V8 sedan in beige. Why? It cost me, after taxes, title, tags & tabs about $150 out-of-pocket. It has 88K miles, original, and a West Coast car...very solid and the interior plastic is not cracked & melted away. Over the years I collected & kept enough parts for A-bodies that I knew I could build a pretty nice runner (I'm not a big guy, so the A's are a fitting platform for me). I have a '70 340, 30 over short block. Heads are 308-casting versions off an '89 360. I have the fuel pump for an M-body police car (NIB) and the entire oil cooler set-up off an '89 Gran Fury AHB. Edelbrock Performer RPM intake and an 850 TQ (needs an adapter to fit the intake, I know) will make a decent induction system. transmission? I have all the pieces for converting to an A-833 OD stick- it's the A/F body length, Hurst shifter, and an iron case. Cooling system? I have the HD set-up; radiator, shroud & clutch fan. Brakes & suspension? 1 1/8" front sway bar, 7/8' rear bar, 340 suspension, and 12" pin-style calipers from a Daytona Charger (the Cordoba-esque one). Rear end I have an 8.75 that has been braced, the 10" x 2.5" drums (Aspen cop car), and a 489-case , 3.55 SG center section. I'm sure I'll add AC, do some other things to make it "Better," but the fact is I will drive it around having fun with my cattle dog. Is the car ever going to be worth a lot? Nope, not monetarily- but I will have a helluva lot of fun with it.
I was never a fan of the 73/74 models but the more I see these modern day jelly bean shaped automobiles, the more I appreciate the 73/74 roadrunners. BTW Tony, that Charger is looking rather lonely sitting in your driveway. I bet it wants to do more burnouts!!
I'm surprised you don't drive this one more often seems like a really nice car
I just bought one. Someone was in the process of converting it over to roadrunner. They did alot of great work on it but never finished... My wife almost left me over my purchasing this car.... Funny thing is that the license plate holder says happiness is being single.... LOL 😆
Mine came from the cornfield when I was 19, it's in my garage, and I'm 56, big block stick power window, fe-5 black stripe, I will be buried in it!
Hey Tony, I had a 73 RR from 1990- 1998. About 3 pounds of bondo hanging on the passenger door, had it cheaply painted plumb crazy. Loved that car.
I had a 73 Satelite Sebring + with a Road Runner Hood. I built the 400 in it Holley 4 barrel headers cam edelbrock Intake had 2.73 gears would cruise at 160 all day loved that car. Console Auto with buckets 727 Auto
What an amazing Mopar!! I'd love to drive an old musclecar with a stick..mine have always been automatic
Wow never seen uncle t smile so much. It must be that good
I can hear the microscopic dust particals scouring the cylinders and rings from no air filter
I love the big grin he has just rolling it down the road. I been 3 years now recovering my 1973 roadrunner. Previous owner was making it I to a race car but I stopped it before it got too far gone.
I love that car Tony I'm glad you finally did an episode on it. It's actually one of my favorite cars in your Fleet
