We have soil with clay chunks in it and we find 1" square (rabbit cage hardware cloth) to be best. Smaller wire mesh gives much dust and beats up microbes.
Agree with Anthony, this is one of the best (simple but effective) I've seen. Do you think adding a counterweight to the motor reduces it's lifespan notably? I'm thinking I might try the same thing with an old bench grinder motor, but I'm not sure how different motors deal with being counterweighted (is this hard on bearings?). Thanks for sharing!
