Crazy to think that this piano was built 9 years before Clair De Lune was even published
The "A's have that bell-like quality in the treble and yet retain an even warm sound throughout. What a beautiful piano.
Must be the trademark since the beginning. I like the As out of the entire range for its wonderful brilliance.
I believe this is one of the most beautiful sounding pianos I've ever heard, and it has inspired me to arrange to play a Steinway A3 from the early 1920's. The fluidity and consistency of tonal harmonic footprint across all octaves is truly singular. It is as one voice. Incredible.
If I have anything to do with it, and I do, PianoWorks will be playing a key role in the preparation of the piano I will be working with.
The playing by Derek Vann is divine, I should be taking lessons from him.
I'm a world level professional music scholar and musician on another instrument, and I see PianoWorks playing a role in my pursuit of the composer path. I here express my thanks to the Italian composers who have so kindly offered to assist me in my studies on scholarship.
That is one of the best interpretations I've heard, including some big-name pianists. Bravo!
I love the sound quality of the piano. Steinway is the best ❤
This is really beautiful playing and a lovely recording and piano sound. Thank you so much for posting here.
Sehr sehr schön gespielt, ein tolles Instrument, vielen Dank.
Lovely workmanship from the team at PianoWorks in Duluth, Georgia: Gabe, Chris, Don, and the entire staff. Listening to this in 2020 we don't know exactly what this piano sounded like and how it performed in Steinway's 1896 heyday, but it's most reasonable to assume this is as close as it's going to get. This demo was posted on 5/14/20 - a fine player should snatch this instrument up as quickly as possible.
Thank you, David, for your fine compliments. The best news about this piano is that is was a commissioned restoration and was delivered yesterday to its owner.
The owner can only be congratulated on his unique, professionally restored instrument. You can really understand the last 124 years of our human history from the soul of the soundboard, which hopefully has remained the old one. It is unbelievable that an instrument can be shown its best side after such a long time. And that the instrument art has never been improved in any way.
Does it still have the original sound board?
Is this piano still avaialble ? What is the price?
Hello Wendy. No, this piano was purchased in its original, rough condition and the full restoration commissioned by a Steinway artist. This piano was delivered within days of recording this video. However, we do have its close cousin currently in restoration, a 1906 Steinway model A, Louis XV in mahogany. We expect it to be complete this fall. That piano is also getting our most comprehensive level of restoration.
I surprised how well you play Chopin scherzo No.3..
This piece is by Debussy
