What an exciting battle! Definitely one of your best. Assuming this mod works like the base game, you cannot damage the primary base of either side via bombardment. It's a special rule to prevent a trivial solution to winning --- assemble a task force of heavies and run them out to the enemy main base and bomb it to zero --- essentially game over. As for why the damage to Warspite was "critical" when it visually didn't look that bad --- please remember all of those gray bordered sections of the ship that were damaged earlier and partially repaired at sea. Each of those still counts as partially damaged, and the cumulative amount, plus the new damage, added up to "critical". Damaged compartments are not fully repaired until the ship is released for repair. Also, always remember that for WotS, *flooding* is what sinks ships, *not* damage or fire.
We should salute in honor of Paul Jones. The little destroyer that could finally rests where she belongs, in the vast sea. She will rest with her sister Whipple, they were brave ships with a even braver crew. They will be missed.
It’s going to get tougher Wolfpack, I suspect you’re going to see more IJN BB units as you’ve witted their heavy cruisers down significantly and have done considerable damage to their destroyers. *11 JUNE, 1942* *IMPERIAL GENERAL HEADQUARTERS* Sub-Lieutenant Tastuhara had quietly, almost reverently, put the report back down on his desk. His hands were trembling. His eyes watered in disbelief, dismay, and the dawning light of nihilistic insanity. His mind threatened to snap into thousands of unrecognizable shards as he tried to comprehend the true gravity of what he just read. A carrier task force, escorting a merchant ship transiting the Karimatra Strait, ran face first into HMS Warspite. And *lost.* This shouldn’t have been noteworthy in and of itself, true, but the list of ships lost told the true cost of this massive disaster. A Mizuho class destroyer. Two carriers, a Ryūjō and an Akagi. The merchant ship, obviously. And a Kongō class battleship. A *battleship.* A modern, top tier, heavyweight battleship that was supposed to be the Imperial Navy’s ace in the Pacific. One of only *four* ships of her class currently in service. An investment of time, manpower, and resources that could not easily be replaced. And she was reportedly sunk with all hands. Tasuhara was fighting back despair. The void in his stomach widened, threatening to engulf him completely. Reports from the survivors that were recovered had said that the ABDACOM forces suffered the loss of a cruiser and a destroyer, and that Warspite was critically wounded during the fight, but Tatsuhara knew that was a rather low butcher’s bill compared to the tally the IJN suffered. ANY Allied commander would’ve gladly taken that trade. Something inside of him…snapped. The sub-lieutenant finally gave in to the dark, brooding, apocalyptic horror and *laughed.* It started as a bubbling giggle. Then it evolved into a manic chuckle. And then? Peals of nihilistic, uncontrollable, insane laughter ripped through him as he sat as his desk. His guffaws and bellowing drew concerned stares from his colleagues, but he paid them little (if any) heed. As the MPs dragged him away from his station, Tatsuhara kept laughing, crying, and joyously proclaiming to the world that “We’re all fucked! Each and every one of us! All of us! FUCKED!” As the day resumed for the rest of his section, the seeds of doubt and despair were well watered that day. They all wanted to believe that he was wrong, that the stress of the job simply was too much for him. But, deep down, they knew he was right. The Imperial Navy was fucked. And it had been ever since it sailed into the East Indies.
This was one of the most exciting battles of the campaign, Man I really thought Warspite was going to sink from all of those incoming Vals....looking forward to seeing what you do with those newly acquired 32 command points.
I initially thought those fires on the merchant ship (at 26:18) might be from absorbing shots aimed at the _Kongō_ right next to her, but I bet it was actually from the _Kongō_ herself firing her secondary guns. With the rate of fire on those things, how slowly they were moving past each other, and the fact that friendly fire is evidently not turned off, I think she probably took a couple broadsides at least.
What a FANTASTIC battle at the end! additionally In praise of the USN's little "P" oiler, as compared to the Cimarron, the following is offered. The little "P" costs 1/2 the command points of a Cimarron. 2 little "P"s carry (156 tons) 16 more tons of oil than a Cimarron (140) tons for the same command points. 10 little "P"s carry 80 more tons of oil than 5 Cimarrons. Cimarron can travel 400 miles in 19.2 hours, but the little "P" can travel 400 miles in 22 hours. Of more importance, if you have 10 Cimarrons in a TF under air attack and you lose 2 - that's 280 tons of oil and 28 command points. The loss of 2 "P"s would be 156 tons and 14 command points.
One thing that helps with torp launches from ships. Click fire even when out of arc. The instant the target is in arc, the torps will launch. A little less micro then.
Another thing is to visualise the path torpedoes must take to intercept a ship. In first approximation a torpedo is as fast as a cruiser or DD. So if the torpedo is to slam into a ship, the enemy ship must be as far from the impact point as you are. Ideally the ship sees you at 45° off their bow. If the enemy sees you as abeam to him, the torpedo will have to chase the ship for a loooong time, and must therefore launch at a very acute angle to the enemies’ course. It will very likely miss or run out of steam before it hits. With a slow target, say a freighter at 8 kts, will need to see you only 8-11° bow-wards of their broadside, so this is more lenient and a torpedo will catch up with more ease.
This is quite the episode. Warspite catches a zero. Helps sink a battleship and a carrier among other ships. Oh and takes all the bomb hits. Bit sad to see akagi sink but that's just me. De Ruyter's gone on quite the journey this campaign, the crew definitely have done the Netherlands proud. Wonder what the Dutch to the Japanese prisoners?
You should show the list of total losses for both yourself and the Japanese in the next episonde. It would be interesting to see the scale of damage that has been inflicted
With all the naval power sunk at the Java sea, I wonder if the Japanese still has any vessels to get involve in the battle of Midway. Good jobs this is the most difficult campaign ever for the War on the sea series. The allies started in such disadvantaged positions.
Midway probably was cancelled because the Japanese had their hands full with the Dutch East Indies and who could really blame them, losing that many ships including a few fleet carriers isnt exactly great all things considered
If MI does still happen, it would be very different. For starters, half of Kido Butai is now sunk. In addition, both Yamaguchi and Nagumo are likely dead, as well as other major figures like Genda.
It may have been that you can’t knock down the main enemy base, or it may just be that they have so many supplies there that you can destroy all that long before you ever start taking out the base itself. Only way to know is if the modding team comes by to explain it but I lean that bombardment destroys supplies first, then bases with this mod.
Oh, one last thing. You were using formation launches with your Swordfish. That actually works very well during an initial torp launch (in fact, I've learned to use echelon left/right and target ships in the center of an enemy formation, it increases damage), but once ships are maneuvering, it's better to use individual targeting by clicking on the squadron flag, than attack.
Nicely fought battle Avoiding the day time fight with aircraft is off set by the Japanese superior nightime fighting skills though. Kongos were tanks just not as tanky as their bigger brothers the Yamato & Musashi. I knew you were going to lose ships but glad you came out with as many survivors as you did Gratz !!!
Unfortunately, this isnt the case. The IJN have a few Kongos remaining which Wolfpack cant deal with now that Warspite and Houston are sent packing. While the IJN took huge attrition to their Cruiser fleet, I think they still have some lying around and the IJN carrier fleet is still around with Kaga and Akagi along with other CVLs that are around somewhere. At this point IRL though the IJN wouldve pulled out, countless DDs, many CAs and CLs, several CVs and a BB is far too costly for... a handful of CLs and DDs on the Allied side and not even taking Java is a really bad trade
@@CanadianDolphinSurf one thing to consider is the fact that O-19 is still in play, and if he can get her into position, then there's not much that the IJN can do about it, considering their badly depleted escort numbers
@@nicoferguson1215 fair, but O-19 is one boat and if the IJN absolutely pukes out ships, there isnt much just one sub can do. Im sure that O-19 will do some fuckery in the near future however
What you could done before that big fight was attached O-19 to task force python, that way she could launched her torpedoes and you would been able to still attack them on the surface
Glad to see Marblehead and Warspite both survived the fight. Get them down to Darwin ASAP. You might want to have them run from port to port seeking supplies and repairs as they go.
Ohohooo, this will be a treat! Beer time! Edit: O-19 scouted this TF before, it had two light carriers, a fleet carrier and the Kongo. O-19 got one CVE and now you've finished them off, for the price of most of your own TF's heavy damage. Good trade, excellent command.
You've sunk two more carriers and one Kongo Class battleship. And the Vals are watching for the chance to land on a carrier. But both carriers were too badly crippled. And those aircraft probably turned North and made for the nearest base in Malaysia. Probably was forced to ditch - picked up by small Warships.
Warspite wasn't really in a lot of danger from a zero crashing into it. Kamikazes were a threat to carriers and lighter units, but without some dedicated armor-piercing weapons you're not getting into the parts of a dreadnought battleship that actually _hurt._ The worst-case scenario is a fire in the superstructure, which is annoying but not critical.
Man that last battle was a nail biter...I was worried that Konga was gonna put MUCH more of a hurting on you than it did...but your guys kept slinging the rounds! Odd that the torpedo's went so far wide...pity Keep em coming!!!!
The torps went wide because all these Japanese ships are really fast. The AI calculates lead as if the target is going to keep travelling in a straight line, combine with fast enemies that are turning a lot and you get spectacular misses.

The Grand Old Lady definitely took a beating but she refused to go down. Back to Darwin for tea and medals
Loved that action packed episode! Keep them coming... :D
That was beastly! good proper slugfest i would agree!
Extremely tense battle. Good fight
Night battles are very cool... loved this episode.
It seems like getting either X or Y turret out of action is a tradition for the mighty Warspite haha
Finally a battleship match up in this game.
Great Battle! Love your series!
Best battle of the whole campaign.
This is what we live for. amazing episode!
That is a very long range for Warspite to open fire in a night engagement with a heavy cruiser.
She does hold the record for longest range hit scored by a battleship which is funny considering how much she loves to use her fists.
Great video, these are exceptional!
Warspite's a tough old bugger! Trust me!! She'll be back.
It seems, with the loss of those Japanese capital ships, the Japanese SE Asia/South Pacific campaign is on its last breath
Im sure that O-19 will do some fuckery in the near future however
@@CanadianDolphinSurf considering her kill tally, I wouldn't be surprised
just a small correction, IJN Kongo had 14 inch main guns! sorry im just a history nerd.
I noticed too 😊
My bad! Thanks for the correction!
@@Wolfpack345 After 7 years playing World of Warships and just short of 260 different ships in your harbour, these things become imprinted I swear.
Very action packed! Well done! 😊
FANTASTIC Episode !!!!!
What you could done before that big fight was attached O-19 to task force python, that way she could launched her torpedoes and you would been able to still attack them on the surface
Hell of a couple of fights
The carriers were sunk a few days ago at Midway
Wow, 2 CV, 1 BB. Fantastic result.
Glad to see Marblehead and Warspite both survived the fight.
Get them down to Darwin ASAP.
You might want to have them run from port to port seeking supplies and repairs as they go.
Best episode yet
Ohohooo, this will be a treat! Beer time! Edit: O-19 scouted this TF before, it had two light carriers, a fleet carrier and the Kongo. O-19 got one CVE and now you've finished them off, for the price of most of your own TF's heavy damage. Good trade, excellent command.
That earlier TF had Zuikaku, not Akagi. I’m also pretty sure the other light carrier in the last TF was Hoshou, not Ryuhou.
Just saw video. 45 minutes, something went down. I am excited
Well done Admiral, well done
Very good ep. Keep up the good work
Great surface battles!
Good to see Boise in the action, im going to hope that she doesn't experience anything bad... Hopefully no magazine explosion...
Yeah, or running around like the historical counterpaet
one of your best vids...ever
Commenting to help spread the video.
Man that last battle was a nail biter...I was worried that Konga was gonna put MUCH more of a hurting on you than it did...but your guys kept slinging the rounds!
Odd that the torpedo's went so far wide...pity
Keep em coming!!!!
The torps went wide because all these Japanese ships are really fast. The AI calculates lead as if the target is going to keep travelling in a straight line, combine with fast enemies that are turning a lot and you get spectacular misses.
What a beating. Good fun.
The highlight of my Fridays, because my Fridays at work suck.
