People often underestimate financial advisors' importance. Over 50 years of data reveal that those who work with advisors typically earn more than those who go it alone. I've been fortunate to work with one for 13 years, resulting in a $1 million portfolio, largely from early investments in AI and other growth stocks.

The only American who won't acknowledge this Administration's failed economic policies is Joe Biden. "Shrink-flation' is the least of our worries compared to rising rents and stagnant wages, but it is an undeniable indicator of how bad our inflation has gotten. I appreciate Chamath’s optimism but sadly I agree with Friedberg’s initial thesis, there is an increasing rise in socialist sentiment here in Australia, a country consistently committed to social safety nets and legacy of governing from the centre. It is because younger generations are feeling left behind, along with ‘loud’ left voices maximising on the opportunity to push concerning ‘leftist’ ideology for greater centralised planning which is basically greater government control, weaker individual rights.

There is a structural disconnect between ownership and employees. Computers enabled this huge decoupling where the top doesn't even have to be in the same country to maintain a hold on the worker bees.
Many people have the ability to decentralize and distribute computation, but structurally right now everyone is still having trouble shifting the paradigms from silos to shared interop. This is typified by incremental changes on a largely API-centric approach. Ironically, git has created a natural monopoly for src control because of its flexible decentralized approach that provides interop between both public and private spaces, i.e. "open repos" and "closed repos". No one (!) Has recognized the importance of this design. Incrementally people are kluging on top of it for git ops, even though the overall design is a mess. And the other "web3" camp is completely enamored with blockchains which are inherently narrow, inflexible and overly rigid.
This structurally is hindering true distributed computation among humans, organizations and AIs.
The breakthrough is understanding that there can be a data protocol that provides similar dynamics to git to where you can use timeline dsl cmds (e.g. clone, fork, merge, etc) to enable a hypergraph that enables a git-like collaboration paradigm with non-src, "semantic" data. This will enable true entrepreneurialism and all the various disconnected API silos can be broken down. The economy requires this structurally to scale out of its current quagmire.

I think the greatest challenge we face is finding productive and positive work, hobbies, vocations, that keep people feeling relevant and productive much longer than our current norms dictate. Producing something valuable, either commercially or personally is the single greatest contributor to a healthy attitude. Chamath's comments about relative deprivation are spot on and are the result of an insidious and intentional effort to create unrest and division and to usher in the one world order where everybody will ultimately have nothing.

There's a chance they can make $130B in data center revenue this year.
So in the most bullish scenario, NVDA GPU sales over the last two years is $175B, globally.
That's nowhere near $1T or $600B or whatever inane spend these guys are talking about.
The real estate and energy components of the build out is relatively small compared to the chips.
Also folks forget a large portion of the AI spend is for military and sovereign AI projects. Those don't have immediate return requirements.

They approximate the opex (power and datacenter) to be about the same as the gpu costs. And then they assume that the cloud provider needs to charge at least 2x to get a 50% margin, which is fair (still need to pay for your employees to run the cloud business). At 24:30, slide shows nvidia is estimated to have 150B ARR in Q4 of 2024, so 150B * 2 (to account for datacenter + power) * 2 (for the 50% margin) = 600B of revenue required. The main flaw with this calculation is that only part of the power + opex is recurring (ie, the hardware plus installation costs are done once). But they discuss in the podcast that it's unknown how long this hardware will be useful. The worst case for the cloud providers is that the next generation of chips in two years is so much more advanced that everyone wants those chips.

This used to be one of the great podcasts with arguments about issues, and diverse view points about a lot of different tech topics but has slowly morphed into a monotone mainstream politics show featuring primarily David Sacks who regurgitates the populist right talking points ad nauseam.
The format has changed from a discussion among friends (who I like and seem to be cool guys), to basically Sacks campaigning for his clear and open political aspirations.
This is not a criticism of Sacks’ actual point of view (because I often agree), but a criticism of the show, which used to be 4 successful friends talking and arguing and is now essentially a political show for grandstanding one overwhelmingly clear mainstream political point of view.
If their goal is just to amass as many listeners as possible, this probably will work to gather up a large amount of conservative listeners who like an echo chamber. But for those of us who are just sick of the endless politically polarized news cycle, this really sucks.

This is not the first time France's left & centrist parties did this horse trading to thwart a far right take over.
The majority of the french constituencies have three options in their elections, which splits the electorate all which ways over a plethora of nuanced topics.
The right first tried to hack the election by putting forward a young candidate that was very active on TikTok and effectively persuading the youth to vote for them.
This is why they were successful in the first round, due to the unprecedented voter turnout, largely because of the influence of a polarising hard right anti-inmigration message being spoon fed and sugar coated to a portion of the population who on regular circumstances don't give a flying french "faut" about the local government elections (equivalent to the American midterms).
So the left reacted to the threat of losing power by putting aside whatever differences that they had and gave the populace a dichotomous vote for either the left or right.
To which democracy complied and responded.

That wasn't even a crash. it was a crack in the road. We haven't even hit the real speed bump. S&P is at least 45% over priced.

Sacks should remember that the other French people who didn’t vote for the right wing politician also wants to live in a certain type of France of their choice that those other left wing parties represent and they have that right too. Who wins out of them wins. That’s how their democracy is set up. We shouldn’t undermine other people’s democracy or views. If you think x reform is good and the majority of those who vote don’t, respect that and vice versa.

Chamath definitely has a good point, only a several companies have seen a upturn and just recently the tech sector has seen a sudden volatile downturn.. translate this to the emerging most important innovative market is going down.. This is definitely a bad sign for the general economy and its going to take a more conservative turn. This isnt a growth market anymore even when people want it to be and reality is starting to hit the market.

I’m glad I found this podcast. You guys are clearly brilliant. That said as someone who runs datacenter infrastructure you all are a bit too abstracted from what these things work and how they upgrade cycle etc. One interesting thing I’d just point out. I bought a couple small GPU hosts, small 2U boxes with a pair of H100’s (they are about 30k per card) those cards aren’t actually all that huge. They are basically very large video cards without a video port output.

The problem with mass illegal immigration especially from Islamic countries is that these people don't integrate and in many cases actually despise the culture of the country they have adopted as their home... there is no strength in just having a diverse population.. the strength of any country is in its cultural/social identity.. The strength is in unity... you can have diversity as long as you have unity... Its happening way to quickly to form any kind of unity between all these different cultures.
