Several people asked for the setlist, here it is : 9:41 After you’ve gone (T.Layton) 15:51 Just the way you are (B.Joel) 25:05 Dinello (B.Lagrène) 32:21 Danse Norvégienne (E.Grieg) 41:00 Donna Lee (M.Davis) 48:08 Nuages (D.Reinhardt) 54:30 Mimosa (H.Winterstein/D.Schmidt) 1:00:51 Sunny (B.Hebb) 1:11:33 Move (S.Rollins) 1:22:30 Mouvements (B.Lagrène) 1:33:15 Isn’t she lovely (S.Wonder)
Bireli is a genius. Seemingly endless supply of incredible musical ideas just pour from his guitar. He never seems to repeat himself, and yet my ears are always perked whenever he plays. It's all so familiar and yet so brand new, so innovative. Sylvain Luc is the only other guitar player who can bring me to such listening heights. Aren't we all so fortunate to have Bireli beautify our lives with his incredible musicianship? Merci, Monsieur Lagrène!
That's very well said, sir. He is truly a genius at improvisation. If I wanted to describe more in detail how I feel, I would have to quote your words exactly! You hit the nail on the head.
Birelis playing is so fun, so surprising- and so emotionally packed. He always manages to hit my emotional center- like his playing is a perfect representation of himself. And I feel that. And as far as “chops” cmon even George Benson and Pat Martino are like “holy shit!!!!” I believe those of us to witness him live or really be familiar with his music- and be able to process it- we understand we are quietly witnessing the #1 greatest guitarist on planet earth at this time. And Franck is special too... as are the rest - Bireli lifts anyone he plays with to the top. I hope Bireli is doing ok during this crazy virus scare period. No gigs = no money. Much love and thanks to the group. 🙏🙏 May we return to live music soon... Thanks to whoever posted this concert!!!!
I heard Bireli for the 1st time when he was 11 or 12 - already at that time he was a real "wunderking"; things haven't changed, apart that maybe today he is more integrating, mentoring & letting others shine compared to when he was little. However, I am quite old now and Bireli's childhood is long gone, so maybe I am biased. But he is undeniably one of the greatest gypsy jazz guitarists since Django Reinhard, the master of all times.
I return to Robin’s advice on Gypsy Guitar whenever I want an insight into this magical genre. Top class teacher and performer. Thank you, Robin, for sharing your expertise and no-nonsense explanations. John (Cork, Ireland)
Fantastic concert! 5🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 All the crap prior to the nine minute mark should be deleted. And the birthday crap shouldn't have happened in the middle of the show. One other issue I have is that the person handling the video had no idea what he was doing. Long stage shots while the musicians solo, and generally not getting the correct shots of musicians soloing. Enough of my rant I just discovered Lagrène yesterday (11-21-2021). I've been o.d.ing on his music since then. My mind is BLOWN 🤯 by his playing and versitility. The musicians he surrounds himself with are exceptional; the best! The three hour gypsy show I watched was phenomenal! Until yesterday my favorite guitarists have been Pat Metheny & Phil Keaggy. Any more it is Biréli Lagrène! Bravo! Fantastic performance! 👏👏👏🥳👏👏👏 EDIT: Lagrène is not of this planet. 🛸
I think every classicaly trained musician knows some piano. As far as learning the instrument in 2 years, well, you should get a photographical memory first. Nevertheless, he would catch it pretty fast considering his existing knowledge and skills.
Hans Pele Thorleifsen hes ahead of Django in both standard and gypsy jazz; I would say stochelo rosenberg is the only one who can get to this level in gypsy jazz and george benson in standard jazz.
I was thinking the same (although Bireli sounds great on any guitar). I desperately tried to identify the guitar but could not find any info, I noticed he used it around 2017 for some videos ( the guitar sounds as similar but not as good as in this mix, the engineer did a great mix setting)… @23:48 on this video you can clearly read the label inside the big hole « Selmer Paris » but the 14 fret neck joint is something I’ve never witnessed.. D shape hole Orchestra Model normally comes with 12 frets, and fingerboard goes over the hole for extended frets which is not the case here.. i don’t know, maybe a custom replica or restaured one with different fingerboard..
How about this comparison....................Oscar Peterson's single note arpeggios, so fast that my ear cannot keep up.....to Birelli's incredible single note strings of which I can digest about every fifth note. And,,,,,,by the way, where's Diego? Or is that Diego?
Don't think so. That's at around 16:30. at 1:22:30 something crazy I don't recognize. Maybe a Bireli original. It goes from minor to major like he likes to do at the end of the old saw "Minor Swing". Pretty flashy tune though
Several people asked for the setlist, here it is :

Alex Bunardzic so true
I'd crawl over broken glass to see Bireli live. Well, not really, but you know what I mean
That's very well said, sir. He is truly a genius at improvisation. If I wanted to describe more in detail how I feel, I would have to quote your words exactly! You hit the nail on the head.
Bien dit!
nice homage that you make him thank you

Biréli Lagrène : Guitare - Hono Winterstein : Guitare rythmique - William Brunard : Contrebasse - Franck Wolf : Saxophones. 😏
Super tight band. Love Bireli's comping behind Franck's solos/melodies. Taking it to the next level.

Such a fun concert! Magnificent!
When you see there's no one under 40 years old in the audience....you begin to be scare for the future of jazz in general...
Do not worry - -there are many people on this earth that love jazz music - - just because you see here in this video a crowd older people -
They really sound like an orchestra, brilliant!
absolument classieux ! 🔵⚪🔴
Saw him again on Saturday 30 years after the last time, still as impressive, stunning !
Incroyable 😂🎉
He's resembling Lewis Black more and more! haha
Marvelous Biréli playing!
Vince lombardi...
SUPER : L'ÏNTRÖ FAUT PRENEDRE LE TEMPS DE LE CÖN PRENDRE

LORD 🙏
I wonder how long it would take Biréli to learn piano -- I bet after a year or two he'd be astronomical.!!
I think every classicaly trained musician knows some piano. As far as learning the instrument in 2 years, well, you should get a photographical memory first. Nevertheless, he would catch it pretty fast considering his existing knowledge and skills.
Magnifique!
Je joue pareil... dans mes rêves!
The show begins at 9:40.
I'd love to hear Franck on a baritone
He is the best since Django....!!!!
Hans Pele Thorleifsen hes ahead of Django in both standard and gypsy jazz; I would say stochelo rosenberg is the only one who can get to this level in gypsy jazz and george benson in standard jazz.
What was that note at 3 minutes 45 seconds and 54 nanoseconds? Was it a C or F? The rest I got.
Fab encore!😘
Mr Legrene when are you coming to New Zealand? Thankyou for the wonderful music. Merci beaucoup.
Un maître ..... LE Maître ...
Show starts at 3:27
Huh? Announcements. The show starts at 9:40.
The tone of that guitar is incredible, does any one know what he plays?
I was thinking the same (although Bireli sounds great on any guitar). Whoa a Billy Joel tune at 16:00 (Just the Way You Are) - didn't see that one coming! : )
Excelente...!!!!
What's that beautiful moody piece at 48:00 mins anyone?. Doesn't get better than that!
Nuages from Django Reinhardt
Sounds like Leny Andrade and Romero Lubambo playing in the background (or some other stage close by) and the beginning :o
38:25 Typical Birelis humour!
Does anyone have the set list? Some songs I know... others I want to know...
Does someone know what is the tune at 25:05 ?
maybe composed by Bireli
Gipsy-Power on Jazz haha cool very nice
MASTER!
I must see him
What's not too love.
I dream of Birelli Lagrene in feat with Younès Grandjean
Name of the song please 18:00 😖 !
Just the way you are by Billy Joel.
Termi Nator
Yeah ! Thank you !!
Absolute top music. Superhumanly talented musicians. But there are actually 30 assholes who hit the dislike button. I'm devastated.
Euk Euk!👍
How about this comparison....................Oscar Peterson's single note arpeggios, so fast that my ear cannot keep up.....to Birelli's incredible single note strings of which I can digest about every fifth note.
And,,,,,,by the way, where's Diego? Or is that Diego?
What is the tune that starts at 32.20? It starts out sounding like Misty but then goes into something else? Excuse my ignorance
"Danse Norvegienne"
Thanks Paul!
No mention of the other musicians? Only Bireli?
Name of the song please 1:22:30
"I love you just the way you are".....
Don't think so. That's at around 16:30. at 1:22:30 something crazy I don't recognize. Maybe a Bireli original. It goes from minor to major like he likes to do at the end of the old saw "Minor Swing". Pretty flashy tune though
It's called 'mouvements'.
Thanks!
gurkenjoachim Danke))
magical
Baixista eh o cara pqp
Actual music starts about 9 40 mark
Aha! I saw Franck circular breathing at the end of Stevie Wonder's number.
Set list anyone?
What is the last tune !?
"Isn't She Lovely"
Top !

9 min in before the minstrels begin to even tune up
Love Bireli but he doesn't seem so inspired there. Winterstein as cool as ever.
9:35 thank me later
😔
ENORME
Guy needs to learn his scales 😳
Lol at the 6 thumbs down
musterionsurly Very few because most people don’t accidentally watch this.
