That knight that got blasted at about 4:26 cracked me up 😂 The start of this mission is brutal! Also those death knights that come can get bent lol Thanks so much for the vid.
After multiple tries without ever even getting to take the first landing spot, I decided to look it up, and man, it still seems impossible. The idea that it gets even harder after the first landing makes me want to quit.
I kept working at it, and I finally got that initial base established, though it really messed up my defenses when the Death Knight showed up with his ogre-mage friends, but I know I wouldn't have gotten this far without this video or another one like it. I just mustered up a bundle of 9 griffin riders, and I will keep trying later.
Finally got it! All thanks to your strategy. It took me a few tries, and I did it without fog of war, using plenty of save scumming, and on a moderate speed, but I'll take it! Thanks!
When I play this level, even before I head off to get the 2nd mine north of the landing area... I start getting decimated by the Dark Knights and their Death and Decay. Any idea what is triggering them?? EDIT: I tried this strategy and once again (And literally only a few minutes after I landed) 3 of my towers were destroyed by Death and Decay.. I dont get whats going on...
It seemed random to me. You can see me put some units in front of the towers around 5:15 so they get targeted instead of the towers, but they didn't attack at all in this recording. If they rush you too hard it gets difficult.
Captain Obvious From what I understand, they attack if you move too far north. As long as you don't explore too far, they shouldn't attack, but that's what I've been told.
Usually it depends on where you put them. The strategy I use is to let my knights and archers close enough to command them to kill the bastards (Death Knights) when they start to use DaD.
Don't know if it is still relevant but I know what triggers the DKs. If you see the woodline at the bottom at 10:58... Never put a building (or even unit) across the woodline (a hidden border I say). You can explore Exorzism in that time and then build something across that border to trigger the DKs and blast them with your Exorzism-spell. For me it worked all the time.
made me realize my approach to nearly every map was on hard mode after watching your videos on WC2. But how do you stop the black deathknights from coming in and death and decaying your guard towers?
Make a couple of gnome flying dudes and sit them on that strip of land between your base and where they are. The death knights will just get distracted by them, cast a tornado, and run away. Keep your gnome guys there and the death knights will never come into your base. I supposed you have already beaten it in the three months since you posted this but as I just completed the mission today I'm leaving this for anyone who comes after us with the same question.
Just played this mission today and the beginning kicked my ass but I never had those death knights come over bc i obsessively keep archers and knights bordering all my camps if that helps
Very sick! Your farming was on point and moves of dodging attacks were nice! I’m having difficulty with this mission and do not move as fast as you. Any tips? I’m just now starting to get the hang of using hotkeys
This map can be a bit unfair when the enemies rush you too much. You can turn down the game speed if it's getting too hectic. If all else fails try to restart the map, maybe you get luckier with the enemy behavior.
Could have kept those weak units alive to make them susceptible to a death knight's death coil in order to prevent a death and decay that would ruin your base and towers. I use my ballistae to instantly kill the death knights after they waste their magic because sometimes they get stuck trying to return to their base (or a Paladin's exorcism if I get a church built).

Crud, this endgame mission. Hope you'll ready enough Paladins and Gryphon Riders against the Death Knights and Dragons. (Addendum post-watch: Didn't do the former, but at least the latter was done combined with Guard Towers.) 18:33: As Kilian Experience calls him, Khadgar is "a pretty s**t wizard," since the Dark Portal still stands come the expansion. Also, the fact that his actions in the First War didn't do much crud, apart from maybe Medivh's death. (Oh, and feel free to imagine the Global Defense Initiative Ion Cannon here.) And so we canonically end *the first half* of the Warcraft II saga... next stop, what lies Beyond the Dark Portal. (Voice actors at 21:29.)
It seems early on, the key is using fireball as often as possible. When paired with a single guard tower it just nukes the dragons. They still show up a little too often for my taste.
@@konstantins.uvarin652 Ah right I had forgotten about that. I had to check for some screenshots and the food icon is missing from some of them where the player clearly has farms.
I have no idea if this will ever help anyone but if you alt click a unit in dos warcraft 2 you'll select the last group it was in. Very useful especially for moving many casters with your main armies.
Thx for the video. I’ve had this game for about 25 years on the PS1, just pulled it out a few months ago. This was the only lvl in the first half of the game I never defeated, until now. Total annihilation, except one gold mine, NO MERCY was given. TIP: Death Knights only used D&D if I built past the clump of trees between the first two gold mines. 2nd TIP: After surrounding the dark portal with the Gryphon Riders, highlight them all, command STOP, then ATTACT. So that they all attack at the same time. This one is just for the FUN of it.
@@Razi5131 I'm with you, I really like to enjoy every mission to the fullest and completely destroy the enemy. I even go so far that I prefer to build a town that actually looks like a town and not a random mess. Of course it's not possible in missions this hard when you just have to be very quick.

This game really needed to nerf its friendly fire.
Paladins+Exorcism all the way.
I'll say the same.

Black Rock SPAYYYYYYYA!
Where are the H's in the end?
Nice, a player who doesn't use the catapult as the vanguard.
I love this game
Nice :)

I finally cleared out the cannon towers very carefully, only to find that I took too long and a dragon was slaughtering my peasants! :(

Playing with fog of war on is a bold move.
Which makes it all the more awesome once it's done.

hOW TO GGROUP UNITS?
Ctrl+0..9 to assign a number to group, 0..9 to select.

Meant to say if you build EAST of the clump of trees between the gold mines for TIP 1.
It’s also true that Excorcism kills Death Knights
An OP weakness, that.
@@michaelandreipalon359 Makes sense though since Death Knights are pretty much Zombies
No Beyond the Dark Portal missions? :)
There are now.

Yea, I like to usually to destroy everything if possible before finishing missions.
