British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran covers Bob Dylan's classic "Don't Think Twice, It's Alright" for Billboard's Candid Covers presented by Nikon.
bob dylan is a living legend.best songwriter of all times
Dylan’s songs are deceptively hard to cover well. It’s not about the notes and chords it’s about the phrasing and expression and intention of the songs. This song is extensively covered because of its timeless classic beauty. Many covers are valiant attempts but fall short somehow. This cover is really good and faithful to the Dylan version. I also have my own cover of this up on my channel if you’re interested. I changed the key and gave it a different vibe but strived to reproduce the world intensity of passion.
Two of my favorite things in one. I just... I'm speechless.
He earned so much respect from me for doing a dylan cover
That's Sheeran for you, always working the demographics. It"s never about the music.
@@captainfeedback1 he literally learned this as his first guitar tune. What are you on about?
@@asheskrett1062 Why do people make shit up that's A: not true and B: easily refutable?
@@asheskrett1062 He literally didn't. What are you on about? His first guitar tune was Layla. Google it.
I absolutely love Ed Sheeran. I got to see him in NJ September 2018 and it was just himself and a guitar and that's all he needed. He's absolutely amazing and a beautiful soul.
Can I just say my favourite thing about you is your unique sound and stories. Just please believe you are better than everyone else keep doing you x
Did he just say that this was one of the first songs he learned on guitar?! This song is hard!
it's hard if you play it right
@owen gardiner
Yeah true. You don't need to play the original version immediately. It's a good song to learn guitar I think. Some basic chords, nice lyrics and a rather simple melody. Later when you get comfortable you can learn the picking picking pattern and the runs.
It was actually my 4th song I learned on guitar it’s came pretty natural to me. The singing with it took awhile but after 3 days I got it.
It was my first song too. Took me a few days to get the fingerpicking right.
He's an amazing songwriter and a singer. He's got a hell of the voice! Beautiful! Keep it up Ed ! :)
I never thought in a million years that Ed Sheeran wouldn't sound as good as Bob Dylan.
A really nice cover. It's my favorite solo cover of the song (favorite overall still belongs to PP&M because of their gorgeous harmonies).
i want this song so bad!
this is more than awesome
That unique plaintiff dylanesque timbre will be striven for in this song type but will remain just that- unmatchable.
Such a beautiful cover of a great song! :D
I'm getting so fucking tired of seeing an endless amount of people complaining about modern day artists covering old legends like Bob or Jimmy Hendrix.. Be grateful these artists were inspired by these legends which led them into covering these songs. If they didn't, most younger people would't have ever heard these really well written lyrics. "He isn't worth the song", "His bubblegum voice shouldn't sing these lyrics" , "He is singing this so bad". Jezus Christ, have you guys even listened once closely to Bob's singing? He was arguably the worst singer of his time who was able to hit the charts. To me it simply sounds like a bunch of elders who aren't willing to open up their eyes to artists of the present...
Bob's voice is PERFECTLY IMPERFECT
JustBrendan I couldn't agree more, this is a brilliant cover, I'm sure Bob Dylan would be proud.
JustBrendan bob Dylan's a great singer
JustBrendan cause they suck bad..honestly..No talent no lyrics. Its all visual and air brushed..Like CNN...Fake......
I couldn't agree more sir.
Generation after generation
I hope good song still alive
People try to compare some of today's artists to bob dylan but they fail miserably. There will never be another bob dylan he is one of a kind and he will never be replaced by anyone
Who the fuck was comparing?!!
Colin Griffin Ed Sheeran is better as a musical artist than Bob Dylan.
@@roberttail1676 Are you out of your fucking gourd?
Colin Griffin so true. Gah
storytellinginstones or something ludicrous!
i love him so much

Its good to know he grew up listening to good music

Awesome
Incredible!!! :-)
Excellent
"dob bob dylan" n'aww so cute :)
this is Woodstock..watch it! If only my dad had done the same..
Antonis Ahajiorgis
the greatest song writer of all time
Would have been even more amazing having Bob Dylan in the yesterday movie lol
Personally I thought this was great. I enjoyed listening to it a lot. This fellow Ed, sems a good bloke.
nice voice
Brett Dennen and Ted Lennon covered this song as well as Peter Paul and Mary, they've all done such great jobs
It's also great to have covers so you can introduce people to Bob's lyrics without them getting accumulated to his voice (which a lot of people have trouble with)
Woot! Ed
what are you talking about? yes he did! he wrote and recorded the song. i don't understand why anyone would say that he didn't
2023 loving this in Iran
♥️♥️♥️♥️
LYRICS:
Well it ain't no use to sit and wonder why, babe
Ifin' you don't know by now
An' it ain't no use to sit and wonder why, babe
It'll never do some how
When your rooster crows at the break a dawn
Look out your window and I'll be gone
You're the reason I'm trav'lin' on
Don't think twice, it's all right
And it ain't no use in a-turnin' on your light, babe
The light I never knowed
An' it ain't no use in turnin' on your light, babe
I'm on the dark side of the road
But I wish there was somethin' you would do or say
To try and make me change my mind and stay
We never did too much talkin' anyway
But don't think twice, it's all right
No it ain't no use in callin' out my name, gal
Like you never done before
And it ain't no use in callin' out my name, gal
I can't hear ya any more
I'm a-thinkin' and a-wond'rin' wallkin' way down the road
I once loved a woman, a child I am told
I give her my heart but she wanted my soul
But don't think twice, it's all right
So long honey babe
Where I'm bound, I can't tell
Goodbye is too good a word, babe
So I just say fare thee well
I ain't sayin' you treated me unkind
You could have done better but I don't mind
You just kinda wasted my precious time
But don't think twice, it's all right
Dylan is the greatest
❤️
Just wondering if I am the only one who has a hard time with the 2-chord going straight back to the tonic, instead of resolving to 5? The pull of that beautiful bi-dominant so brutally crushed.🤷🏼♂️😅
love ed, love dylan, where is the version of this recording without the insightful but unfortunately timed interview obscuring the sublime opening melody to one of the greatest songs ever sung
Wow.
what guitar he always has?
That was fucking awesome
I love when artist's cover songs, but add a little twist to it. Whether it be in the way it's played or just a simple change of lyrics.
superbe
Good job
great cover - if anyone has any doubts about that pick up a guitar and give it a go : )
The finger picking and the hammers in the original make the soulful aspect of it for me. And yes I can pick up a guitar and play them. Granted Ed’s voice is more mournful, but the song is really about the underlying feelings that linger behind the lyrics for this person, and the almost coarse adolescent tone of Dylan’s delivery shows that in a way this version doesn’t. Ed’s version knows what the relationship meant to him but Dylan’s version conveys that voice didn’t fully get what it was abandoning.
Sweet
+1!
All Right.
good guy!
No one said he’s better that Dylan, no one is... Jesus..
He does it well. Good song. I am pretty sure he is not trying to sound just like Dylan.
Cool dad.
hahahahha his boots
Not a patch on dylans version
Ed sheeren
Hi Janosch
I’m back
"Dob...Bob Dylan" - 3:22
Lovely well done you can think of Dylan however you like but I don't think he was never really happy with any of his own recordings. I seen play live on at least two dozen times but he has never song anything the same way but when people cover him they only cover the original?
Bob Dylan didn't record a song called "Don't Think Twice, It's Alright".
rhubarbling FAIL!
come.
This guy is the shit!!!!
You added the word 'the' by accident.

I always wondered what happened to Billy Joel.

Best left alone, Ed.
the originals is so much more unique
Hey guys, when you get a chance check out my acoustic cover of this song on my page! Thanks for listening!
fucking hell how many cameras were on him? editing's a bit frantic
ARGGGGHTRYDHC I LOVE HIM
Why does he have to speak at the beginning? Now everyone knows I’m listening to Ed Sheeran.
It’s too young. Dylan has a voice that was wise and world weary. And he was younger then Sheeran when he wrote it.
I swear, somehow I've never heard this guy sing, it's weird. Now I get what the hype is about.
I love so many covers of this song, but none match that young man from Minnesota.
All my life I’ve heard buskers do this song a whole lot better, he just rush through it.
Ke$ha did this cover so much better!
Ed E Sparks well kesha is not talented as ed
i feel bad for the 6 people with hearing disabilities.......
well duh, it's his song :D
Compare Dylan to anyone and you'll be dissapointed tho.
Why does everyone think Dylan wrote Dont Think Twice? Didnt anyone read the Freewheelin jacket cover. I have the album and did read it. Dylan says hes interpreting a song others were singing at the time. He says its a hard song to sing but he hopes he'll get it right some day. And in case you didnt know. Its Bruce Langhorn on guitar with Dylan playing harmonica. Its on Capital records. Some one of you must have the record. Read the jacket cover please.
Ma Granny does a good version of this, and she is a "ginger" , like oor Ed. (that just MIGHT be the hair dye, tho, methinks !)
Take yer word for it, Seth, ma man. Sympathies re bein a ginger, btw ;)
First song I have heard by him. I live in a cave...
I think the only reason to cover a song is to add something personal to it. Make it different in your own way, dont try to do it the same way the original recording artist did
