Thank you Kamil for doing this ! This movie has had a profound place in my heart for years. Seeing the filming locations looking so sunny, bright and alive really makes them stand out in the movie. The dread Lukas managed to capture with every shot of this location (if it's all in and around the same area) is amazing in the most heart-wrenching way imaginable.
Thank you for your comment. This contrast between Paldiski today and 20 years ago is unbelievable. Being part of European Union and EU funds changed Estonia completely, and today this is one of the most modern EU countries. I really did not expect this. I deeply regret that I could not see this city in early 00s. But some small things I noticed did not change at all. The most surprising for me was that some abandoned apartments which can be seen in random movie scenes are still abandoned as it was 20 years ago. The same window frames and windows curtains left in the same positions for two decades... But this is seriously impressive to see that those buildings were completely renovated and people live there...
I agree 100% it's really hard to understand that a movie so dark and depressing was made 20 years ago in this place when almost nothing looks alike anymore. Are you a resident of the area or were you just visiting? I would really love to talk more about the movie with you if you'd be cool with that!
@@theawakened94 No, I'm not from Estonia. Doing this movie locations movie was my goal for last year. I decided to go there this summer. I have been obsessed with Lilja 4-Ever for years. I spent moths on comparing movie scenes with rare pictures or google maps pictures. It was not easy because Paldiski is one of those boring small cities which even was a closed town during USSR ocupation. No pictures, no help to find online...
This was a military area during the soviet union days, can you imagine even the service families got neglected like trash. Just look at the building falling apart hardly any healthy trees or grass. Crumbling sidewalks and roads. I mean the movie was filmed after the fall but god damn if it didn't take decades for em to recover.
Thank you so much for this update. I was in Paldiski in 2009 and it's so encouraging to see how much it and Estonia has improved. It has truly become a 1st world developed nation.

I'm happy that you like it. I had no idea that this movie is so special for so many people that's why I'm going to make another short film because I have a lot of material that I did not use. I will be in Paldiski this autumn or winter again. There is nothing interesting to see but I just want to feel this connection with that movie again. I'm from Poland so it's not so far away.
Hey, thank you so much for being able to share... What a beautiful and painful feeling at the same time. I was actually wondering, there below you mentioned that you probably will return to the town this autumn/winter season. Is there any possibility to reach the apartments/enter Lilja's room? Maybe there will be any chance to go through and find landlords? This film still means a lot to me, who knows, maybe it will work one or another day. Thank you in advance,
LOOOl the soviets or the US that funded Yeltsin and brought the USSR to its downfall huh? So you support the US that created such mass poverty and prostitution and also created huge loss of GDP per capita and real wages aLSO in poland? So you like poland being poor now due to US 😂😂😂😂 big brain
