  • Vintage photos of streets in the Elliott neighborhood of the city of Pittsburgh - many over 100 years old. There are a couple of Crafton Heights and City Acres (Sheraden) streets thrown in for good measure.

    Great tour Tim. I lived in West End and Elliott from 1955 until 1966. I attended Thaddeus Stevens and remembered the burning down of St. Martins. This tour brought back many memories.

    This may be one of your best vids, since its personal as well. Lots of memories for me here. Mom, a Reynolds, lived on Walbridge St. near your home. She would have been 10 in 1958. Catholic as well. I spent time on Walbridge & West End Park w/relatives in the 70s & 80s.

    I love seeing the history of south western Pennsylvania. I grew up in Oakdale, so I am familiar with all the areas. I would really like to see a video about the military base in Oakdale and the Rennerdale/Carnegie area on Noblestown rd.

    In 1968 I was riding the PAT bus near the top of the hill on Steuban St and saw a girl get off, presumably living in an apartment near the bus stop. She was the prettiest girl I ever saw in Pittsburgh.

    Thank you, Tim! Appreciate the journey back in time. Grew up in Elliott having lived on Steuben St. by the Pulaski Club and on Fairview Ave. from the early 60's until 1980. Live in Ohio now but every trip back home, I drive the neighborhood of Elliott. Lots of memories.

    I never realized just how ugly my region is. Human termites ruin everything thats nice so theres no use for me to even wish to return to some semblance of greatness. 💔
    Can you imagine cleaning grafitti off those beautiful textured block arch bridges & tunnels, and sweeping dirty diapers, syringes, chicken bones, candy wrappers, and shell casings from brick & cobblestone roads?
    So weird to enjoy this video & seeing these amazing skeletons of what was, while simulataneously being disusted, mad, and sad at the same time.

      The first couple minutes of Steuben are the West End leading to Elliott but, yes, many people newscasters especially!) consider everything from the Elliott to Esplen to Sheraden and Windgap "the West End."

    I'm so glad I have found this article on of Pittsburgh. I've been busy reading about the Cumberland Road here in Indiana and the Ohio River too. Pittsburgh is, I believe, a place on the Cumberland Road and a location of boatbuilding for river passage of the Ohio River. I'm studying the Geodetic Surveys for the land parcels, which really does make reading a delight for me. I've always felt good at Church, but seeing our Community is more of a present moment than that of the past. I really enjoy having moments with the many who are a part of the Great Picture of Neighbors Being Neighbors.

    My grandparents lived on Herrod street. Unfortunately the house they raised their 10 kids in burned a few years ago. They used to tell me about “Goat Hill” at the end of Werder. You used to be able to find arrow heads up there.

      @Time Travel With Tim u should do a comprehensive look at "seldom scene" Greenway back off rt 51. It's a popular hang out these days but 20yrs ago it was my friend groups quite little gem no one knew about in the woods that backed my neighborhood. Hell the woods that surround seldom scene have a story to be told. There's old mining sites all throughout and so many things I wondered how they ended up so deep in the woods I'd love explanations to lol. But yea man, Seldom Scene(and adjacent Wabash Tunnel)would make a cool segment

    • @TimeTravelWithTim
      @TimeTravelWithTim  Рік тому

      @@TechTokOffical Yes, that would make a good video. But I already have pictures of MANY other places to get to that I already have pictures of. Enough for a number of years at the rate I do these. 8>)
      At some point I'd like to do Saw Mill Run Blvd. and that would make a great addition if you know someone who has old pictures of Seldom Seen. I think I have one or two but not enough to do a comprehensive look.
