      Its worth saying that Matrix got inspration from a lot of other older movies that is less known in the western world.
      One of those it got a lot of inspiration from is Ghost in the Shell. While its a very diffrent movie, both sceens and some core concepts are very simular, some times close to identical.
      The lobby scene in the matrix is pretty much a live action remake of Ghost in the Shell

    I wouldn't say Agent Smith is my favourite character but Hugh Weaving's portrayal is impeccable. The tone of voice, the cadence, and the pauses. It is the pauses that sell it. He says more with a split second pause than many actors can say in minutes of dialogue.

    14:41 Fun fact, Mell: The battery thing wasn't in the original script. Originally, humans were supposed to be the neural network machines needed in order to process, thus why they put humans in the Matrix. The human body would make a *terrible* battery. As Futurama said, potatoes are better batteries than humans will ever be. However, one executive basically said, "I don't understand what a network is, so I assume no one else will. Make people batteries, because everyone understands batteries," and the Wachowski's were literally forced to change that detail.
    BONUS FUN FACT: In the Matrix itself, they didn't just tint things green, they also quite literally dyed all the clothes a light green color for added effect. XD

    • @razorfett147
      @razorfett147 2 роки тому +13

    The original Matrix is a perfect ramp of a movie, and as far as "Hero's Journey" movies are concerned it still doesn't have many contenders all these years later. Always loved that Morpheus avoided the Obi-Wan treatment that mentors usually get in these stories, to the point where the entire last act is all about *not* letting him die. Just gave the stakes more heart than if they were just taking down a doomsday weapon.

    The Oracle originally told Neo he wasnt the One because at that time, he didnt believe he was the One and thus couldnt be. He needed to believe he was the One. Great reaction.

  • @krautgazer
    @krautgazer 2 роки тому +21

    The whole thing about Neo being the one is implicitly explained in the Oracle scene with the vase. She explains the concept of self-fulfillment prophecy: would he had broken the vase had she not told him beforehand? She truly does not know if he's the one or not, neither does Morpheus, which later tells Trinity: "do you now know the difference between knowing the path and WALKING the path?". They were simply betting on Neo but he fulfilled the prophecy himself by simply believing he was the one. If I remember correctly, Neo wasn't even the first one Morpheus believed in. There were others before him.

      I'm not sure exactly which way you meant the last part so I'm going to answer both ways I could interpret. 1) Neo wasn't the first that morpheus thought was the one. 2) In the 3rd film the architect said in each version of the world there was the one, but no one ever said there was more than one " the one" at a time in the same world. It would undo the whole "the one" thing.

    • @krautgazer
      @krautgazer 2 роки тому +2

    To answer how did the first one become unplugged? The answer is Kid. The boy you see in the matrix 2 & 3. His story was in the animatrix and it showed how he found out the world was off like neo did but basically jumped off a building while also believing somehow he’d also not die but wake up which he did. He woke up in his pod like neo but on his own and got saved like the rest.

      @@THEMIMICRYM yes exactly. Also the one in reloaded who yelled out to neo to give him the spoon before he left. The matrix experience back then was epic. We didn’t have unlimited internet or smartphones we had to go places for the information like when the hype before matrix 2 was coming you had to buy the soundtrack because it had secret stuff on it if you put it into your computer. Also the animatrix was released which had 9 stories that basically explained everything and to top it off you had to buy enter the matrix for Xbox or ps2 because the wachowskis filmed an entire extra hour of film for part two that was included in the game that tied into part 2 and setup part 3. I personally lived my best life back then say what you want but the ride was incredible.

    To answer one of your questions, when the Agents get "killed" it does revert back to whoever they had possessed. You can see this when they're on the roof during the Morpheus rescue. The Agent takes over the helicopter pilot, but when Trinity pulls the "Dodge this" shot, you get a bit of slowmo as the Agent falls, but before he hits the ground you get that Matrix modem scream sound effect and a sparky lightshow as he turns back to the helicopter pilot.

    In the scene when Neo is getting "flushed," the robot is essentially unplugging him because Morpheus' group has made the system recognize Neo as dead. When humans are dead and no longer of use to the machines, they're disposed of. Since Neo had been tracked, the ship could go right to where he was flushed.

  • @Mad_Oph
    @Mad_Oph Рік тому +2

    The funny thing is that Morpheus' lesson, "stop trying to hit me and hit me", gets echoed throughout the rest of the film whenever Neo starts overthinking or letting his doubts cloud his ability. It's just a really cool throughline that every time Neo fails in the original film it's due to him getting in his own way and succeeding when he realizes he needs to be present in the moment.

It's interesting and a bit progressive without being in your face about it. There is amazing action and storytelling and it would be fair to warn of nudity which can just be edited out. I highly recommend watching it at least. Was filmed in 8 different countries and Lana requested all be shot locally so the show was cancelled after 2 seasons, and it was probably one of the most expensive shows to make.

This is a very interesting show cause it dealt with so many issues from many different perspectives as well as being shot around the world - literally - with a cast that was - literally - from around the world.
    Also the "brothers" were going through their own transitions to the Wachowski sisters... It was so interesting but difficult for many to follow cause it was not a linear thinking show - you really had to step out the box and say "but, what if humans could do this?"...

    When i was in my teens i actually stopped a robbery in my neighborhood after i heard a voice calling me in the middle of the night. I was sleeping and a male voice told me to wake up and look out of the window so i did, and there was a man dressed in black holding a crowbar near a store that's in front of our house. He started hitting the door several times without success, i saw him walking back & forth like he didn't know what to do but went back to hitting the door several times. Anyway, I called my mom, my mom called my aunt and she called the owners of the store who called the police. It's crazy but there were two officers very near so they arrived quickly at the place. Sadly, when the robber saw the police car lights, he ran away. I don't know if he was ever found, but that happened to me one time and i still can't explain what was the voice i heard and why i was chosen to stop that man from robbing that store. My mom told me not to say anything to the police as i was a minor, but i saw the man who did it, and my description could have helped catch him. Btw, days later, someone did manage to break in but from the back. They opened a hole on the wall and stole all the food. 😕

    15:52 _This_ character, Tank, is _such_ an awesome character. It _kills_ me that he's not in _Reloaded_ or _Revolutions._ But then the actor who plays him, Marcus Chong, did the _dumbest_ thing during negotiations: he _threatened the lives_ of the Wachowskis, so they replaced his character. I mean, seriously, what was he thinking?

    13:33 "What _is_ real? How do you _define_ 'real?'"
    "That's real difficult to tell, man."
    _The Matrix_ is a _very philosophical_ movie.

    With the bit about the Oracle, the Vase is more important than people know. The Oracle mentions what would happen if I DIDNT tell you, would it happen. She even says I can’t tel you who you are. But I can tell you what you need to hear so YOU can choose whether or not to believe.

    There is a Dr. Who episode from the 70s where the Dr gets plugged into a virtual world called the Matrix and its just like this. That had to be the inspiration for these movies.

    Gotta watch Cloud Atlas by the Wachowskis. That movie is special, it was never going to be a commercial success but damn I love it's concept.

    The fi dat time I ever saw this movoe, we had it on video (yup, I'm old) and I had a bout of flu. Well, my fever brain got as far as the interrogation scene and then noped out real quick. My fever brain couldn't handle the bug in his belly.
    And now, the trilogy are some of my favourite movies.
    The Matrix works with a philosophical idea that we could all be just brains in a vat of liquid and how could be know the difference. We spent like three weeks discussing just the first film when I took film studies in college

    The Oracle never told Neo he wasn't The One, Neo decided it himself. He wasn't The One because he didn't yet believe it.

    I am glad I saw this in the theater before seeing any trailers, or knowing anything about it, because it absolutely floored me. I had no idea what I was in for.
    I strictly saw it based on Keanu Reeves, and an article I read about what the Wachowskis went through to get the movie backed by Warner Bros.

    Back then when movies were so original and I grew up with the Matrix series when the first movie came out. One of the best cyberpunk movies ever next to Blade Runner and Ghost in the Shell(1995).
    Fun Fact: For those who do not know, Carrie Ann Moss who played Trinity also voiced Aria in the Mass Effect series.

    You should check out Speed Racer--the Wachowskis made that film and it's become sort of a sleeper hit in recent years. I loved it as a kid, still love it today.
    And as far as Jupiter Ascending goes, it suffers from hella wonky writing at times and a relatively bizarre plot, but the effects are incredible, (most of) the performances are pretty entertaining, and that alone makes it worth the watch, in my opinion.
    I've heard good things about Cloud Atlas, too.

    One of the big things in this movie that hint to the real world still being fake is the machines have a special robot that unhooks people, only to have to deal with people that are fighting them in the real world.
