I really can't thank you enough for creating this series of videos. Being new to Amateur Radio watching this series of videos has given me a invaluable understanding of the different bands. I'm looking forward to more of your videos as I enter this complex but interesting hobby. I'm 65 and thought I needed to get a hobby, WOW, this is a hobby and a half. Thanks again for what you do to simplify this undertaking.
Here in South Dakota, we have a state link system. It DEPENDS heavily on 440. 440 is used to link 2 meter and a few 440 repeater sites. With the South Dakota link system, the interstate system is well covered. As HAMS we cannot allow loss of 440. Use it or loose it folks !
Good Info Eric. I did get one of the 6m transverters from the transverter store for my KX2. Although the 6m band has been totally dead in my area it seems to work ok. I can report back again if you like when hopefully the summer openings start up. 73's K5DEZ

I am in NY along lake Erie USA and 70Cm really busy hear. lots of repeaters and linked systems. some 900Mhz repeaters part of linked system so BUSY! there is a 1296 Mhz repeater but I don't hear it. too far away. even a lot of 220 Mhz hear. repeater digital also have 10 meter and 6 meter repeaters as well. I use Alinco DJ-X11 to scan upper bands. I have a old school RCI-2950 10 meter does not have PL for repeater would like to try transverter for UHF SSB. I also have the any-tone 4 band model radio. 10 6 2 70cm has TX/RX PL but FM only. will be buying the 220MHZ transverter kit some day soon. It was your videos that got me interested in UHF SSB. I have a Baefeng GT3-TP works great for the money. A lot of hams around hear have them. I am shocked on how many I hear. My kenwood HT is 30 years old and out preforms the GT3 but $300 to $45 with acc for GT3.
About 15~20 years ago I messed around a bit with 900MHz Motorola Canopy networking radio equipment. I don't recall what data rates we could get; maybe it was up to 10Mbps, but that seems higher than what we got. 🤔
There is a man from our club that works the 1.25 meter band on SSB in the various VHF- UHF contests. Also, the Hamnation UA-cam channel has some info on microwave communications by Gordon West.
Tried to listen to a Breeze Shooters NET on 444.525 tonight, but I just get static when someone is transmitting. What am I doing wrong? I have a Wouxan KG-UV9P.
Couldn't you use 33cm and above for wireless internet? Suppose you wanted to microwave an internet or other data signal to a remote location? Another thought is if you have a large piece of land and want to have video feeds. Could use that to send Security camera feed?
We have a lot of fM repeaters on 70 cm and even a few on 23 cm here in Philly, There used to be an AtV repeater on 70 cm, but I don't think its been on the air for quite a while. They have a few D-star data repeaters at county EOCs to use with ID-1s. Back in the 1990s, I had a 128K Internet connection via ISDN using Ascend routers; this is plenty fast for basic services like email and ftp. The latest data network is AREDN, running on 2.4 GHz. Unfortunately there are currently no AREDN nodes which I can hit from my QTH. I might be able to hit the 1296 128K data repeater at AA3E if I had an ID-1.

70cm is the go to band in the mountains. In Colorado 2 meters is the mostly dead band where 70 cm is usually pretty active. Also here in Florida there is a weak signal group that regularly has nets on 70 cm, and 1200 MHz band. Mostly in the central part of the state. ATV has a good following in certain sections of the country like the Dayton, Ohio area, SoCal and Phoenix areas.
Eric, Are you a Drummer? I noticed the kick drum in the left corner of your camera screen. I am a retired musician myself played in a band for most of my life. Owned a music store in Detroit MI. and toured the every state in the union we are talking during the 70's and 80's you may know my best friend, that goes by the moniker of the Motor City Madman. keep up the good work Eirc your videos are a blast! by the way the pic of my face is circa 1972 lol.

I have a 460 mh GE radio that is the old wider version. Not to the new narrow that is used now and a phone patch wired in with duplixer. Can that be set up as a repeater on the ham band?

2.4 GHz partly overlaps with the ISM band. Virtually every ham in America is actually "on" the ISM band because it is used for WiFi. Look up AREDN if you want to use your ham privileges for hard core long haul WiFi
Great content! On the side, I think lots of ppl from in US are scared from Ham Radio with multitude of licenses. Ppl are much more tech savvy these days, why so many steps?
Tom Draug there are only three license levels in the US. And the first level, the Tech license, is very easy to get. My 10 year old is about to take the test for her Tech license. Buy Gordon West's Technician book, take a week or two to read it, take your test. Pretty simple. You need some electronics knowledge because your amateur radio license allows you to modify radios, so they want to make sure you know what not to do.
Adam we have only one level in Poland and it helped to grow the number of young ham ops. Congrats on getting your daughter interested!! It's so cool hobby for whole life :)

900 megahertz would be good for short distance especially in a interference prone area like maybe in the city or something along that nature I think alinco had a radio out that would do 900 megahertz other than that you have to have a Motorola radio and they can get kind of expensive
Alinco has a dual-band HT (DJ-G29T) that does not only 900, but 220. It is discontinued and EXTREMELY hard to find on the used market. And there are many FM repeaters on 900 and they are very clear, more so than most 2m repeaters.

Few years back, our club used 1.2GHz ID-1 DStar radios on field day to give us internet access at the park for weather and submitting logs etc. 😃

You can Get used police radios at swaps for dirt cheep! 800 Mhz.
