For context, I believe the next scene or just a couple more is when he’s on his death bed. The beauty of this scene for me is the zeal for life he has just before death. It’s almost as if his spirit/body/mind or whatever you call it gave him one last chance to rejoice and feel triumphant, and simply enjoy being alive and taking in even the most mundane of objects like a shrub. He saw the beauty of breathing one moment to the next.

And those who are forever curious can easily, and silently, let an hour or two slip by simply pondering the fact that we're here at all. And we're fully aware that we're here....though we can't say exactly where our next thought comes from. It's a sweet old world.
“I believe a leaf of grass is no less than the journey-work of the stars,
And the pismire is equally perfect, and a grain of sand, and the egg of the wren,
And the tree-toad is a chef-d'oeuvre for the highest,
And the running blackberry would adorn the parlors of heaven,
And the narrowest hinge in my hand puts to scorn all machinery,
And the cow crunching with depress'd head surpasses any statue,
And a mouse is miracle enough to stagger sextillions of infidels.”
-Walt Whitman
Rejoice, evermore! Delight in the mundane
One of the greatest old-age make-up jobs I've ever seen in my entire life.
Paul Giamatti really does look like a 90-year-old. By the way, how many people do you know of from history that lived to be 90 years old in the time of John Adams? (October 30, 1735 - July 4, 1826)!!!.
Elizabeth Hamilton, wife of Alexander, died at age 97. That's the only other I can think of.
C Pegg Adams grand daughter lived to be over 90 and died about 1912 or so.The Adams were a tough sort.God Bless the Adamses!
theefrankguy I know that
James Madison's mother lived to be 98
It ran in the family. His grandfather lived to be 83, and his father 70. John Quincy lived to be 80. These were incredible ages 200+ years ago.
This is one of my favorite scenes of all time. So beautiful.
Right out of the Sermon on the Mount. Are not the lilies of the field clothed more beautifully, and arrayed more perfectly, than any queen?
For context, I believe the next scene or just a couple more is when he’s on his death bed. The beauty of this scene for me is the zeal for life he has just before death. It’s almost as if his spirit/body/mind or whatever you call it gave him one last chance to rejoice and feel triumphant, and simply enjoy being alive and taking in even the most mundane of objects like a shrub. He saw the beauty of breathing one moment to the next.
I wonder what Mr Adam’s would think of the sad state of our Great Republic if he were here today ;(
He would inspire us to keep and preserve it !!
A scene --- and words --- I come back to.
That's some damn good acting. I feel inspired by his appreciation and sad of his not so evermore state
I had a counselor in Junior High, last name Adams with ancestry back to John and Abigail,. My counselor looked similar to the paintings of John. Years later I had a co-worker who looked familiar as well, she also had ancestry back to them and looked very much like Abigail.
I love this scene. Reminds me of a moment I had with my father when he was dying that is very special to me.
What a beautiful scene!
I do wish people were as elequent as he did today
"rejoice, and I say again rejoice" - Phil 4:4
Im 54 , and this process is starting now for me
Im 25 and began adopting this mentality at around 15. It has grown vastly within me, and i will forever enjoy myself, and enjoy life, in a much simpler way than most. And if i somehow end up monetarily rich, it will only serve me well, if at all.
Me too I'm 52 I started 15 years ago to admire the small and simple things in life.
For me, it was my children. Observing them in moments of time that reminded me of my own early life when I was as young as them. The realisation that the moment observed happened, but will never again, has incited in me an exquisite mixture of grief and joy as to completely repaint the canvas of the world in my mind.
Excellent series...Giamati was superb.
The more I watch these varied clips the more I value and deduce that Paul Giamatti was the correct choice for this role. Eventually it may be quite impossible for another actor to reach this apex of performance as John Adams.
I miss my wise old Dad!! Rest In Peace Pop!
Giamatti literally became John Adams. An amazing feat for an actor.
I had no idea this even existed, I watch all the UA-cam videos I can but I am going to have get the DVD set
Nubyrc Or just download the HBO app. They have the full series on there.
John Adams: Rejoice Evermore!
Raven: Nevermore
Brilliant and flawless acting!
The exclamation point of a masterpiece series.
Amen!
We should praise God daily for His wonderful blessings in our lives & for being witnesses of His majestic creations around us!
Thank you & praise your name Lord Jesus!
King of kings and Lord of lords!
"Rejoice evermore"
I can't with the way he said that 💀
(1:54)
These words are so beautiful.
He's a true worshiper of Nature's God.
We must enjoy the happiness and beauty of life as much as we can before our “time” comes.
Powerful scene about life. Really makes u put things into perspective.
By the end of the life, despite all his hardships, he had basically embraced a Buddhist monk like outlook of life. He had reached happiness on his own terms.
I'm not very religious but I can understand the deep conviction of those who are without scorning their beliefs. The privilege of being makes a pretty strong case.
Rejoice in the beauty of God's creation and the wonder of His redemption in Christ Jesus, His Son.
"Consider how the lilies of the field grow: They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his glory was adorned like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace..." (Matthew 6:28)
We don't speak this eloquently anymore.
Beautiful. I know how he feels.
My favourite scene in the series.
This made me get a little emotional
Such a beautiful scene!
I know in my heart that's really John Adams.
I just looked up the family tree. There are still living Adams today. Many in fact.
WHOEVER LIKES THIS SERIES... I SUGGEST PICKING UP A BOOK CALLED "The Making of America: The Substance and Meaning of the Constitution. (By W.Cleon Skousen) My father gave it to me when I was a kid, and it looks like a fucking book you'd get a school, it's huge! But it changed my entire life at a young age and gave me such an UNBELIEVABLE RESPECT AND REVERENCE for the Founders. It should be required reading for everyone -- it's that important.
your father is a good man
Thanks for the recommendation!
Rejoice evermore
How i admire you people! What receptivity! No wonder he has endowed you with prosperity and nice environs. You deserve them. A lesser people would need ten slaps to awaken.
Gratitude is a gift.
I got this whole series on blue ray shipped for $5 off Ebay and binge watched it... and I have to say, I feel guilty for not paying full price. While some of it is revisionist history (Charles was with his father in Europe), the acting more than made up for it, my goodness...
And it just makes that much harder to watch our country throw it all away...
Incredible performance, Mr. Giamatti!
Im starting to feel like him and im not even half his age when he died
I'm old and see many likelihoods before me soon to fall off my twig. Yet I say to you all, he's right. Clouds at a beautiful sunset, or a little insect about its business can make you weep still, if only you take the time to be blown away by this universe of ours, both big and small.
Brilliance incarnate.
Adams got that Uncle Iroh wisdom before he died
That was wonderful, thank you!
I wish people still were this intelligent and articulate. That they could talk this way. Now we have gen z🙄🙄🙄
Yeah. Us Zoomers honestly are a disgrace.
Don't believe all that is said about generation z there are many probably more than their destructors would like to admit who real with the program with life and all that's around them and know when to put that damn phone done and turn off the noise of social media don't lump them all together
Reminds me of that Mets game he attended when his dad was the commissioner of baseball.
Rejoice evermore, indeed.
Really love this sentiment
Gosh I hope when I start to go senile it's like this
John Adams was not senile. He had a lucid mind to the end. His 90 year old body, is what finally gave way to time -- never his mind.
Both he and Jefferson wrote many letters back and forth that are part of American history. Read them. Very lucid and elegant.
Amazing.
Wildflowers are my favorite.......
Not those in the greenhouse.
My only complaint is that Paul giomoni did not win an Oscar for this
Inspirational.
He's naturally excepting death.
If you can't hear it it's not worth watching
Why is there no monument to Adams in DC?
Can you imagine Joe Biden having a moment like this? Church Schumer? Nancy? The Turtle?
Feels like this should be a side story in the lord of the rings
