John Adams should certainly have been pleased with the life he'd lead.
When I turned 41, I said to myself "At my age John Adams had founded an entire COUNTRY!".

This series changed my life, not even kidding one shred. I was very nearly the classic nihilist before it, but after it, and specifically the final episode, I began to think like John Adams here. It was a gradual change, but I just care so much more about the mundane, small things than I used to. A tree is a masterpiece and a universe is a boring blank sheet. That universe matters too, but I am small. I cannot see that universe. The grove of trees in my yard, that I can see, I can impact, and turn into a lovely park for my family and dogs. I love the mundane, and if that makes me boring so be it. I am no Darwin, no Cassius, no Voltaire. I COULD if I wanted to be, anyone can be, but I love these small things. I can always work to improve myself, and I do, life is a slow process. But enjoying the mundane in my 20s rather than in my old age like John Adams gives me hope that I'll have the time and the ability to truly make myself and my loved ones happy! Rejoice Forevermore!!!!!!

So you just started to appreciate appreciating the things around you, using you as a the unit of measure, that's not profound... that's just the laziest definition of selfishness. Not everybody can be a Darwing or a Voltaire, generational geniuses are a rare thing for a reason, and being intellectually gifted doesn't exclude you from finding beauty and sense in the mundane, it's not a binary thing.

here's a take for those who are less religious:
The beauty of nature and evolution, the beauty of LIFE. That flower shrub, it's intricacies and existence is a result of time and will of life itself to survive. The most jeweled and high design dressed royalty of a human may be awe inspiring, but compared to the force of existence and the momentum of nature, us humans and our creations are like a small detail in a large grand painting. Rejoice evermore indeed, to have lived and to experience all of this crazy absurd thing we call existence.

This was one of the best miniseries I've ever seen. The acting, dialogue, costumes and story were all fantastic. This was one of my favorite moments. I'm fortunate enough to be a forester and am paid to walk through the woods weekly. I've heard herds 100 elk running through spruces forests, watch hawks swoop down and carry off prey, and have walked through cold misty mornings in autumnal aspen stands that turned into warm sunny afternoons. I wouldn't trade those moments for any amount of money or fancy dwelling in the greatest cities of the world.

It's hard not to have that feeling in nature sometimes. I was hiking in the High Sierras and came over a ridge one early morning see a shallow valley in front of me, the bottom covered in a light white mist. And drifting, barely moving, just above the mist, no more than 10 feet in the air, a hawk looking for its breakfast. The only thing moving at all in the entire panorama. The fingers of sunlight just reaching over the horizon, the white mist, the grey light, the hawk. I couldn't help but think, "this moment is literally priceless".

Yeh, Paul all kinds of nonsense like that. Basically, take no thought for ANYTHING about this life because Christ is going to return shortly. By 'shortly' Paul meant shortly in the usual sense. He also said women should not be permitted to speak in church. If they have questions, they should wait and ask their husbands later because men are the image of God and women are just an afterthought God had so men would not be lonely. In essence, Paul was a fool. In fact, anyone quoting the Bible on anything is likewise.

And the tree-toad is a chef-d'oeuvre for the highest,
And the running blackberry would adorn the parlors of heaven,
And the narrowest hinge in my hand puts to scorn all machinery,
And the cow crunching with depress'd head surpasses any statue,
And a mouse is miracle enough to stagger sextillions of infidels.”

One of the greatest old-age make-up jobs I've ever seen in my entire life.
Paul Giamatti really does look like a 90-year-old. By the way, how many people do you know of from history that lived to be 90 years old in the time of John Adams? (October 30, 1735 - July 4, 1826)!!!.

For context, I believe the next scene or just a couple more is when he’s on his death bed. The beauty of this scene for me is the zeal for life he has just before death. It’s almost as if his spirit/body/mind or whatever you call it gave him one last chance to rejoice and feel triumphant, and simply enjoy being alive and taking in even the most mundane of objects like a shrub. He saw the beauty of breathing one moment to the next.

The realisation that the moment observed happened, but will never again, has incited in me an exquisite mixture of grief and joy as to completely repaint the canvas of the world in my mind.

(By W.Cleon Skousen) My father gave it to me when I was a kid, and it looks like a fucking book you'd get a school, it's huge! But it changed my entire life at a young age and gave me such an UNBELIEVABLE RESPECT AND REVERENCE for the Founders. It should be required reading for everyone -- it's that important.
