    Mac user for 25 years (or more)...never knew this... move files instead of copy... always thought why does apple not have command x?
    but this is really an insight... so simple but so important to save a lot space of data. Thanks.

    I've been on Mac for years and didn't know most of these. This should be a mandatory video for new Mac users.

    Yes, God bless you, indeed. Coming from Windows, I got so frustrated that I couldn't Cut and Paste a file from an old folder to a new one or that I couldn't right click and select "Move to Folder ..."
    Thank you for your help!

    Man, thank you so much for this! I'm thrilled to finally own a nice Mac for music production (vs pc), but as soon as I wanted to simply move file into a different location - in this case a few IR files for my guitar - I became frustrated pretty quickly. Your explanations here are clear and concise, and I really appreciate it! Subbed immediately 💯

    I did not know about drag and dropping to the Back button Arrows. I’ve always loved the way one can drag and drop, with View set to List, selected files from all different levels or hierarchies of folders to another folder. I wonder if they’ve added that functionality to Windows’ folder views?

    Select file, click with 2 fingers and select "copy".
    Navigate to new folder, click on it with 2 fingers to get context-menu.
    Keep the menu open and press "option"-key, then select "move item here".

    Exellent! You are a great help.
    I am very new to the Apple app. Sometimes your mouse clicks and next step, are a bit too fast and is hard to keep up with. It would be better if when you are showing your "how to do" samples, if you were a bit slower so that we could keep up with your instruction.

    Gary - another excellent tutorial. Thank you. I wonder though, if sometimes less isn't more? I mean, do we really need 10 ways to move a file? I suppose different options work well for different needs, but having to learn the 10 different ways just to find the one or two most useful to me can be a little overwhelming.

    • @macmost
      @macmost  4 роки тому +2

      It is nice to have options. If apple removed a few of these, no doubt people would be up in arms if that was one they used. Just choose which method works best for you and you don't need to remember the others.

    What do you think would be the best choice to move large numbers of files in 10.15.7 without causing finder to hang or get stuck. I’ve been using Drag-N-drop or copy and past to no avail. I always have to go to an older partition of El Capitan when it comes to file management for this reason. 10.11.6 has been very stable and smooth , even when moving multiple TB’s of data.

    I typically command +C and command V large folders. Recently it slowed my older iMac to a crawl, and ate up double the size of the filter i moved from the external drive to the main drive. I now drag and drop and things go super fast. I am so used to being able to command c and command v method, but have to use the drag and drop method instead. Why changed?

    Thanks for stepping in and saving the glaring usability problems of MacOS. You have to hold option key to see a move option? Really. There's absolutely NO hint of that anywhere in the interface. And all of the other ways to move filed involver dragging? Really. What happened to right click -> move to option. Would be much faster than performing all those drag dexterity exercises. This is only one of many usability problems this Linux and Windows user had been inflicted on by MacOS. Gotta give their marketing team credit. They managed to convince a considerable number of people that the least intuitive and usable OS is actually the opposite.

    • @macmost
      @macmost  3 роки тому

      By default dragging will move files on the same drive, and copy files to another drive. Holding Option gives you the opposite "option" to that. You can use the keyboard to move files too (Command+C, etc). Watch the whole video.

    • @macmost
      @macmost  2 роки тому

      If you drag and drop on the SAME drive, it moves. If you drag and drop from one drive to ANOTHER, it copies. Make sense because the system doesn't want to assume you want to delete the file on the original drive. Use the Option key while dragging to do the reverse.
