Wow, I just replaced my Brother 1034D with the Singer ProFinish this week. I dropped my Brother from moving it and broke the sliding cover door and the plastic thread looper. Couldn’t get it fixed because repair shops are closed due to covid so I had to purchase another machine. I had my Brother well over 10 years and never had any problems with it other then replacing the bulb. Didn’t want to purchase the same machine so I went with the ProFinish and from your video it appears they are quite similar. Happy with my purchase, I hope this machine has a problem free life like my Brother. Thanks for the review it was very helpful.
You may have been wise -- I can't find the Brother 1034D anywhere except for Amazon or eBay for double or triple the original price. Glad I saw this video. Nice to know the Singer ProFinish is a good option.
Nice to see a serger video with good lighting, no fingers in the way, and good explanations! I've had a Singer in the past and now have a Brother similar to the one in your video.
i literally just got the singer Pro as a gift and i had been considering buying the brother for some time so i was worried But this makes me feel a million times better. I haven't wanted to take it out of the box but im gonna do that now WISH ME LUCK

@@RoxanneStitches thanks for the reply I would consider myself an intermediate sewer but sergers are a bit more intimidating for sure do you have a specific thread you can endorse? and if so where can I find it (affordably) 🧵
Roxanne thank you for comparing the two Sergers. This was a very informative video. I bought the Singer Professional 5 Serger a year ago and it took me a while to figure out how to thread the 3 loopers.
Hi Eileen!! You skipped right over the entry level machine and went right to the monster! Good for you. I own that machine too and it's Amazing!! Thinking of doing some videos on how to use that machine. Enjoy your Pro 5!!
Thanks so much for the detailed comparison! As with the needles at 1:20, looks like the one on the right is longer than the left. Is this what the design is meant for?
Thank you so much Roxanne. I am sitting in front of my singer pro- finish, just took it out of the box and tried it. It did a great job. I was trying to open the free arm and thought that it didn't work and then I fiddled with the thread and it broke and then I thought, back in the box it goes😂. And surprisingly I open You Tube and there you appeared like a magician. Phew! You made everything so easy. Thanks for that video. You saved my night.
Thank you for confirming that I made the right choice and bought the singer! I was considering both, though brother has a newer model than this and some of the flaws may have been corrected. Thank you for a very useful video

Good review. I have the Singer Serger. I take the plastic things off and push them up inside the spool, then put the spool on the spindle and the thread spool is stable.

Hi Patricia. I've owned my SPF for many many years. It's exactly the same model they still sell now. I use it mainly for constructing knits and have always found it to be a very reliable, affordable machine. The Brother seems to be a nice machine too, but I really don't use it very often. I bought a Brother serger and sewing machine approx 10 years ago and will replace with the exact machines in the future. Singer machines I’ve had in the past do not measure up.
Hi, I wanted to buy a over lock machine but I didn’t know which one I wanted to buy Because I’m gonna use it a lot I go to a fashion design school and sew clothes at home and in school I’m used to a industrial over lock machine ( a Juki ) but I don’t know what I need to look in for a machine so if you could help me it would be awesome 🤍
Either one of these would be fine especially for sewing knits. Just make sure to really learn how to use them. Juki also has a home sewing model that looks nice.
Sergers tend to be more noisy than a conventional straight stitch machine because all of the exposed moving parts. They also need to be oiled more often.

Thank you so much for all the información!!!
Very helpful.
You are so welcome!
I bought a Brother serger and sewing machine approx 10 years ago and will replace with the exact machines in the future. Singer machines I’ve had in the past do not measure up.
HI! I agree for you to stick with what you know and love to create with. Happy sewing!!
So thorough!
Thank you Annick!

Very interesting video. Singer also can sew with only 2 threads, Brother can do only 3 threads
Hi Lorelei. Yes, you are right. It's a great machine!!
Roxanne Stitches thank you so much I’m maybe gonna get the brother or the juki
OMG THANKS
Glad you found this information helpful!

why is it so noisy?
Sergers tend to be more noisy than a conventional straight stitch machine because all of the exposed moving parts. They also need to be oiled more often.
Very helpful. Thank you so much!
