I find it amusing how most folks talk about Sony APS-C imaging as entry level, beginner cameras but when talking about Fuji cameras, that doesn't come up. in most cases, one can put images shot with an asp-c camera along side images shot with FF cameras and in a blind test they would be hard to pick which was which. I have both. The smaller set-ups with lenses are very appealing on the aps-c side and IQ is excellent. Yes in low light FF is better but with DeNoising apps that difference has become less of an issue.
Excellent point
Because "oMg tHosE fUjI coLorS" haha i second everything you said.
Full frame isn't an upgrade (APS-C often much better for telephoto or macro), but Sony's E-mount APS-C cameras to date have all been... "Entry-level".
@@Sidowse Nah... You can create amazing images with any camera nowdays. Long gone are the days where full frame, medium format where the norm for profesionals. There are people creating amazing things with phones.
@@soyluisvalenzuela Sony APS-C cameras have poor screen and viewfinder resolution. A lack of dedicated switches and dials. Only one card slot...
EDIT: In contrast, Fuji is really trying to create premium products. It's just a shame about the video autofocus in Fuji cameras to date.
Great review, as always!!! I'd like to add a word of encouragement to anyone just getting into photography and wondering if APS-C cameras are good enough to go past hobbyist. The answer is a resounding yes! I've been shooting professionally since the 80s and have followed the digital tech curve through all its iterations. A couple of years ago I switched from one brand of DSLRs (which I was so heavily invested in you wouldn't believe it) to Sony mirrorless APS-C. (And yes, I kept some primo full-frame DSLR stuff for limited studio and landscape work). I now shoot almost exclusively Sony crop-sensor bodies and I'm loving the smaller, more portable tech. I shoot commercial, product, and lifestyle photography for my clients and they've never been happier with the results. In fact, they don't care what the heck I'm shooting as long as I give them the eye-popping creativity they want. They never even ask. Would I love dual card slots and a better EVF and the other FF bells and whistles? Sure. (And FYI, I haven't had a single SD card failure in 15 years of digital work...although I still would love two slots.) Will I get Sony FF bodies in the future? Of course, I love gear as much as anyone and this is how I make my living (and I would not call it an upgrade...it's just different). But does it really matter? Nope. Not. One. Bit. So get any darn camera you want and hone your craft. You can do it for fun or make a good living. Go for it!
Underrated comment, thanks
Those are holy words.
👏👏👏
was looking for this, i have apple, samsung and google phones and i like the photos that come out but a lot of the times i wish i had a proper camera so i can capture the night sky without noise or zoom in without issues and obviously it would be a hobby so i dont wanna spend $10K on a no-compromise setup and want a value for money camera that can do it all pretty decent, reason why i am not looking at fuji cause the colors are nice but auto focus and video isnt that good, so i lean towards these sony's but have not bought one yet thinking i may be missing out on some feature and may need to upgrade in the future just like how i feel about taking photos with my phone
I've seen so many reviews on this A6700. I'm surprised no one has mentioned the Focus Bracketing capabilities. The flip out screen combined with this has me sold. I'll be selling my A6600 for sure.
I have had the sonya6000 for many years and love it, even with its faults, because of the small size and grip (I have small hands). I have recently started doing more macro photography, and the fact that Sony is finally adding focus bracketing to the a6700 could make a big difference to me, although it doesn’t quite compete with the in camera focus stacking on Olympus. Thank you for the video, I really enjoyed the clear explanation ☺️
For a hybrid camera (photo/video) I'd prefer a screen hinge system that's less flashy/gets attention (for street photo/street capture) and also is aligned with the lens versus with a swivel out screen you have the screen to the side and out if you want to tilt it. Sony had a couple screen hinge solutions like this before (Sony DSLR Alpha).
I own both the a6400 and the Fujifilm XT5. Fujifilm provides more features and better LCD/EVF. I think that this a6000 lineup is more for photographers than videographers and they should really pay attention to the details like making a better EVF. It's a good upgrade from the a6400 but from a photographer's perspective not a huge upgrade. The good video features and AI autofocus is more for professional work than the majority of the users who will buy the a6700. The best hybrid camera now is the Fujifilm XS20. I wouldn't upgrade if I had a Sony APSC (a6400/a6600). I would upgrade to the Sony alpha full-frame cameras. That's a more obvious upgrade in terms of image quality for stills.
Spot on 💯
I mostly agree. I think size still counts for a lot. Particularly in this line, and proven by numerous manufacturers. For example, I have an XT-1. I love that camera in so many ways. Even today, the XT-1 is still a viable photographic camera to use with street, landscape, and portrait photography. When upgrading, I wanted better tracking and Focus speed. I opted for the A6600, as my Fuji lens count was still small. Again, size also playing a huge roll as the XT-4/XT-5 have larger bodies. I've owned those other large mirrored DSLR's (Nikon D7/D300/D500. I found I would not take them out much. Full frame didn't warrant my (and many) to add bigger, and heavier lenses. Sony is very firm on the size of its A6xx class for very good reason. I'm just pointing these items out. An upgrade does not mean a larger or full frame move unless one is a wedding, Sports photographer, or reaps the benefit of their paid results. Why anyone would do that with an APS-C would not be too advantageous unless they were starting out in photography. Yet the market knows the prosumer APS-C has an attraction all its own. Hence, a new A6700 by Sony with quite a large assortment of 3rd party lens mfr's.
Sorry but Sony A6400 related in 2019 with $950 price tag
And Fuji xt5 released in 2022 with $1800 price tag!
Not a legit comparison!!!
@@MrJafar Sure, I am not "comparing" but just saying that the overall user experience is much better than the Sony (even with previous models like the XT3/XT4). All other brands make great LCD/EVFs that you don't need to go home and open the images on your computer to see the quality and true colors. Even Jared Polin mentioned it in his review. Also, I am not saying that the a6700 is a bad camera but those small details make the difference to me.
I have the A6400 and the A6600, and the A6700 appears to be a significant upgrade over them both. The AI Autofocus is matched only by the A7RV. And it works in all modes. That's an upgrade for everyone, and video shooters have even more to cheer. 10-bit 4:2:2 video means that S-log 3 becomes more usable. The ability to load custom LUTs is another big plus for video shooters. The 4K60p and 120p video modes are straight out of the Cine line cameras.
Could the viewfinder be better? Sure, but Sony has always been about REALLY compact APS-C cameras, going back to the NEX line. And you can pair the A6700 with the Sony 16-55mm f/2.8 G lens and have 24-82.5mm (35mm Equivalent) coverage for under a kilo. That's more coverage than a full-frame body and a 24-70mm f/2.8 lens, for significantly less weight. Add the Sony 70-350mm f/4.5-6.3 G OSS Lens, and you reach out to 525mm full-frame equivalent, and you're just over 1.5 kilos. You can do a 3-lens kit with the A6700 that will cover 15-525mm full-frame equivalent, stay comfortably under two kilos, and cherry pick key features of the A7RV and FX30, while providing faster mechanical shutter burst rate than the A7RV does in electronic shutter mode.
And you're telling us that's not a major upgrade???
I've watched a few reviews of this camera that make a big deal about the same things. A single card slot, micro hdmi and EVF.
I personally like the small for factor and am prepared to accept these 'shortcomings' to keep the body compact. I never use the hdmi port, and the EVF is fine for me as I analyse the images on a computer screen later anyway as I'm sure everyone does. Ideally, a second card slot, allowing jpegs to go to one card and raws to another would be good but that would probably add to the size and cost.
Autofocus performance is the biggest priority for me so I will be Upgrading my A6600 for this reason alone.
When all said and done, this is not marketed as a pro level camera and it's fairly reasonably priced.
People wanting camera bodies with a fuller feature set have the choice already but should be prepared to pay considerably more for it.
Comments from other brand fanboys, saying this cameras is garbage because it's not fuji, canon etc are just pointless a specially as unless they're a reviewer they haven't actually had one to use.
I have a6700 and AF is fantastic. A huge step up from the a6400 I had before.
Thanks Ted ….. on the strength of your review on A6700 - I bought the body (as an update to my ‘original’ A6000 from back in the day!) from Amazon UK! Yours and couple of others are really objective technical information in your narrative - really appreciated! With viewfinder issue - I got use to it by using A6000 over the years, but not a dealbreaker for me!
Indeed, as I am now 72 and getting the ‘old age jitters’ handholding - IBIS on A6700 is first class!
Many thanks again, Ted!
By the way ….. excellent videos with thought provoking subjects! Cheers or ‘Later!’ 😂
You didn't mention that they did improve the cup on the EVF. As someone who doesn't chase cameras and tends to keep mine for many years, the EVF is fine. I've taken my best photos with lower res EVFs. Yet being able to shoot better in bright light without having to use your hand to cup block the sun is an improvement.
theres alot of good evf cup you could get online. i wouldnt consider that a huge improvement.
I’m a former Sony shooter, current Fuji shooter. Sure, I agree with you that the Fuji’s edge this camera out in many ways (of course, APSC is Fuji’s thing). However, what a great job Sony has done on this update. Finally they’re including top tier features in budget cameras! Definitely a round of applause for Sony, and a killer way to get into their ecosystem. 👌
I heard the colors of Fujifilm are good.. how does it comperes to sony colors? Is it a big difference?
@@johnsonguite It really depends on your application. For filmmaking, whilst slog3 is really nice, Fuji’s flog2 really is easier to work with and deliver greater results with less work. There is an authentic look about the files that give them that ‘film’ look more naturally (nicer grain profile etc). But I will say, the later Sony sensors are really good and the difference isn’t worth selling off everything to move to Fuji. I only did it as I had a business partner willing to purchase all of my Sony gear for a good price at the time. I’d you are still using old Sony bodies, Fuji is a good upgrade. As to photography. I feel the Fuji has the edge again in colours, but since the Sony A1, A7IV and above, you really can work with the files to create that Fuji aesthetic fairly easily, so again, there isn’t much difference. Hope that helps.
@@danfarmer_photo @danfarmer_photo thank you so much for the reply.. was planning to buy new camera and SX20 and A6700 are on my list... My fren had XT5 and yesterday tried the colors and its quite good... But i like the focus of sony, especially the AI in A6700 and also 4K@120 fps...
Glad that you mention about Slog3 and Flog2 also, was about to ask that too... Glad that you mention about sony new sensors and the possibility of working with sony new sensor to creare fuji like results..
I will go with A6700... Your reply is very helpful, once again thank you...
@@johnsonguite You are very welcome. Just remember there is a substantial crop on the 4k 120p on the Sony, so if that is super important, I would actually look at the XH2s (I have this body also). The other thing to consider which I didn't mention previously, is the ability to shoot open gate on the XS20 and XH2s. The determining factor of value for open gate is if you have clients that require a lot of social media video. It is so helpful to be able to shoot in normal landscaper orientation, and to be able to repurpose the one file for both UA-cam 16:9, and for social media 4:5 or 9:16. It's not say you can't shoot social media videos on Sony, of course you can, but the 3:2 open gate is a big deal for that style of content. That was actually a factor (one of) with moving to Fuji. I was shooting a lot of clients that had socials and UA-cam. Originally I had a Sony rig with a vertical mount, and one in landscape. I would shoot them both for interviews. Now, XH2s for my A cam, and it does both jobs! Not to mention the resolution at 6.2k gives so much resolution for rescaling. Anyway, don't let that put you off your choice. Sony are amazing and have great sensors now. Aren't we so lucky to be so spoilt for choice these days... All the best.
Great review. I bought this a6700. Uploaded 4k videos. Great camera.
I disagree with the external viewfinder, it is always clumsy and add to the price in a very significant way . If you do so then suppress altogether the internal one. I would rather have a slightly bigger camera body including an operational viewfinder.
Good review. I 100% agree with you re. the viewfinder. Am I correct, a third party could create a wired viewfinder using the HDMI port, or would it have too much lag or lower resolution (not sure if the HDMI supports 2K or 4k). Another use for APS-C is a crop multiplier for wildlife. No reason Sony could not produce an APS-C stacked (or even a non-stacked fast readout) sensor for 15-20 fps wildlife photographers.
The problem with microHDMI based products is the port is small, fiddly, and prone to losing connectivity and breaking. I hate microHDMI. Going to miniHDMI, a much wider, deeper, more solid connector, but still smaller than HDMI, would have been a big improvement.
Pssssst but Multi Interface shoe is present on the APS C sony bodies since the nex 6 of 2013. You could even use the xlr adapter with the a6000 already:)
Analog mode only
The viewfinder complaints suggests a person who does not understand the buyer. I wear glasses - and still find the viewfinder ok. Purchasing and having to buy a viewfinder would be a turnoff. I am a very experienced amateur. I will buy this one for the auto focus.
What about for the FX30 or FX3 which has no viewfinder?
@@rsmith02 to be frank, the rear LED screen is useless for a landscape photographer which I mostly am. If a blogger or solely and indoor shooter, the LED only is ok. But I would not purchase. c
@theartofphotography - I don't know why it took me this long to find, but I have been searching for film recipe presets forever, and I've never seen yours in any of my search results - thanks you, just what I wanted! I recently upgraded my A7iii to the A7RV and my a6000 to an a6700 and I just happened to click on this video, so thanks again Ted!
Damn, I prefer the flip up screen. It was awesome. I hate when companies use the articulating screen unless it's like the A7Rv or the GH6. Otherwise it's clumsy and awkward. Plus the flip up screen means you look directly at the camera when you're recording vs looking off to the side.
Good point at the end. I also think filling from top looks better, less “huge” lol
And if you use an external shotgun mike, it blocks the screen, unless you use a cage or a hot shoe relocator.
What about using the hot shoe? With flip it doesn’t work
Thank you for your in depth review, love this camera. I fine the Viewfinder clear and bright enough. People complained about a6600 and earlier not having fully articulated screen - now a6700 does:)! But some not happy with the viewfinder. Have used the camera in bright and overcast conditions, viewfinder fine and provides good opportunities for composition. APSC awesome size, loaded with features, AI offering Subject recognition, AF nails the shot easily. Happy shooting.
Just bought your presets. So excited to use them! Thank you.
I would buy a FX30 with a hotshoe viewfinder instead of an a6700 if it existed although I like that the a6700 is smaller
I bought the A6600 based on numerous good reviews and I have struggled with it. I abandoned Canon and had so many regrets. Anything I shot video on with the A6600 required a massive amount of color correction in Premiere Pro. The presets for the A6600 were awful when compared side my side to a Canon t7i set to default settings. Has the A6700 improved on this issue? Or should I return to team Canon?
Once Sony added in camera timelapse and better auto focus I preordered the a6700 to replace my a6500. I do not do much video but it is welcomed.
I had the old Sony NEX-5 which had the Fda-Ev1S Electronic Viewfinder available (wasn't cheap) that was nice because you could flip it up to aid in low level photography.
I’m a Portrait & Headshot photographer shooting Fuji XT5
I love the Fuji color & feel but autofocus is AWFUL. I’m going to go for a new system.
I need : Autofocus Accuracy, Speed, Light Weight, Low Cost. I do NOT need full frame.
Recently went to camera store and spent hours trying Nikon, Canon, Sony.
Of all the cameras I tried, the A6700 felt best and was incredibly good with autofocus. LOVED IT!!!!
I’m going to sell my XT5, keep my X100V and get the A6700 with three lenses. Probably the Sigma 23, 30, 56. For the work I do (Headshots, Portraits, & Occasional Family Sessions) I think that’s the best choice. I might get the 18-55 instead of the 23. Don’t know yet.
Also considering the Nikon Z5!!!
Thoughts appreciated!!!!
Something went wrong with the site in the description. It is not secure 🥺
Wish the a6700 came out a few years ago. Would have been easier to justify upgrading from my Nikon D3300. But now that my main subjects are graduating high school and I have fewer years of softball & field hockey to shoot... hard to pull the trigger. Still, that itch is mighty hard to ignore!
Does this camera over hit? when you shoot 4k 30 or 4k 60 , how long we can shoot with 6700
whats your opinion about video stabilization
Great, in-depth video as always sir. Thank you.😊
This camera looks interesting so I started shopping around for lenses, and the situation is dire. No 70-200mm f/2.8 equivalent zoom, and the selection of primes is fractured and inconsistent across many manufacturers. Sony needs to take their APS-C lens lineup more seriously.
Take a look at the Tamron 70-180 f2.8.
Why is it so hard ro find a 16mm f4 lens? I like shooting wide angle and want the whole imagine to be in focus. I don't want any bokeh. I just want a crystal clear image with a 16mm lens on an APSC sensor or its equivalent on a full frame. Any recommendations?
!? fx.x is the widest aperture! You can make it as small as you like although f11 is probably the limit with regard to quality.
You can select video or photo on the back but have a dial for 3 custom settings on the front.
My question is - do the 3 memory settings apply the settings to both video and photo or are they 3 for photo and 3 for video, so 6 in total depending which rear dial setting you have?
Yes, 6 in total. There is a menu option. Look for Mark Galer's Review.
What is the difference between standard RAW and the RAW compressed on the 6700 ?
Should have fewer artifacts in low-lights shots on subject edges than the lossy compression of the other APS-C Sonys.
What’s your honest opinion- what’s better bang for the money. The new a6700, or the Sony a7c full frame camera? I want to get into photography, I’m willing to spend around that budget in the market.
If you are starting out then 6700. It's smaller and lighter. The golden rule is that practicing is essential and cannot be substitued with anything. The size of the 6700 makes easier it to carry around even everyday (did that to my 6000 back in the day), so you can shoot anytime anything you want. The aps c lenses are giving it even more of a size advantage. The 7C don't have too much advantage over the 6700, maybe apart from the bigger(but way older) sensor: none. Not even in image quality.
@@leventebandi thank you so much! I appreciate this response! I definitely agree with the points you’ve made!
Unless you're determined to go full-frame, go for the A6700. Cheaper, better AF, even more compact, excellent video options. APS-C lenses are lighter and cheaper than equivalent full-frame lenses.
a7c is old tech at this point, more equivalent to the a6600. For someone getting into it I'd go for the a6600 or a6700.
I don't know why, but I enjoy Ted's videos more than a lot of other youtubers' in the ether.
I own a Sony A6000 and had for almost an year now. Love the look and features on the new A6700 and thinking about if it’s worth the upgrade. I just want to look and feel the size in my hand before I make up my mind.
I’ve personally owned the a6000 for a while and I loved it ! A few minor issues, nothing you can’t work around but I’d say this is surely worth the upgrade
Negatives 1) To me the A6600 grip feels better than the a6700. 2) I can't believe how much I dispise the fully articulating LCD screen. I thought it wouldn't bother me much but it does. I don't ever have a need to rotate the screen so I can see it from the front of the camera. With the A6600 if I lower my camera for a perspective shot all I had to do was gently pull out the bottom of the display. Now I have to completely pull the LCD screen out, then rotate it. So annoying. I realize this is subjective. 3) Compared to the A6600 I'm disappointed in the battery life of the a6700. I find that the battery won't last a full day so I must bring and swap-out a spare battery. I had gotten spoiled by the long life of the a6600 which sometimes lasted two days. 4) I don't like that Sony moved the power on/off switch.
Positives 1) I very much prefer the viewfinder on the left like the whole a6xxx line. The resolution seems fine to me. 2) Moving the video button to the top is much appreciated. 3) The new menu system is a big improvement. 4) The front dial, under the shutter button. 5) Having the SD slot on the side means I won't have to take the camera off the tripod just to change the memory card. 6) Buffer clearing time is so fast I almost never have to wait for it. 7) The new ai focus system is amazing. 8) Slightly improved low light capability is one of the main reasons I bought the a6700.
All in all the a6700 is fantastic. I'm glad I have it.
Yeah well you must be part of what lesson one percent that can't seem to want more options in your LCD screen? You're not even in a minority you're literally like one of a kind. All I've ever heard from reviews of their previous models was the fact that it wasn't fully articulating.
When I shoot videos most of time I don't use Viewfinder. Even though with photos I barely use Viewfinder nowadays compare to back in time with DSLR. For me, it's NOT big deal.
Using professionally some Hasselblads (H6D_400 and X2D), but for the other moments I love the Leica Q2 for it's lightweight, compact form and especially the outstanding lens performance... but it's 'only' a wide angle. Looking at this a6700 with this lens, I was wondering how is lens performing. Could you please share your thoughts about it. Thanks
Maaaaan!! an external optional viewfinder is genius! sony needs to make that.. really great video also!
I won't buy a camera without a viewfinder.
Can you review the Xperia 1V? I really want to see your thoughts about it.
Nice camera but..
Use your left eye to look at the EVF!?
Madness.
Yup I do as I’m left handed and sighted. In fact it would nice not to press my nose over the screen and menu buttons in winter😆
Excellent Video....BTW where did you get the the Eyecup for the EVF?
My a6700 came with it.
The A6600 will not allow you to use exposure compensation unless you are using auto ISO. If you select a specific ISO, then the exposure compensation is not available to use. (Why???) Has this been changed in the A6700? If so, then I would consider buying this camera. The front wheel, animal tracking and better autofocus would really make this camera a tempting upgrade if they have fixed the exposure compensation.
What mode are you shooting in? I just tried my A6600 in Aperture mode at f/5.6 ISO 400, and adjusting the exposure comp to -1.0 and it increased the shutter speed from 1/13 to 1/25.
If you're shooting in manual mode, you have manually locked the aperture AND the shutter speed. ISO is the only part of the exposure triangle left, and if you have that manually set, too, the camera can't do exposure compensation.
I tried the same thing with my A7iii, and Manual mode with Manual ISO, keeps the exposure comp dial from changing the exposure.
You can change exposure compensation in automatic modes and don't have to have auto ISO on.
Sony should make a pro-level crop camera. Same spec as A6700, but with bigger body for more buttons, larger battery, better viewfinder and larger grip. Nikon has a huge succes with D500 at that time. Many nature photographers used that camera, instead of D850 full-frame. Or both :)
Lol oh use the same camera body size as the full frame model, but seldom as the so-called smaller and more compact apsc system? While not conforming to that basic standard and benefit...what a brilliant strategy !

Would you recommend this camera to a stills shooter? I do full time headshots and portraits and I want something light and fast, currently shooting FUJI XT5 but thinking of jumping. What lenses would you recommend to rival a 50mm and 85mm equivalent? And a 35? I’m seriously thinking of switching from Fuji to Sony (XT5 to A6700). I use the Fuji 56, 33 and 23 (85, 50 and 35 equivalents). What 3 Sony lenses would give me those focal lengths? Am I crazy to think the Sony A6700 could rival the XT5 or would you say it might?
Is the Classic film simulation works with Affinity ?
I think you are right, make an accessory viewfinder . Canon had the finder for the M6 mk2, sony could do that very easily. That lense is very interesting. I can see myself getting that combo just for everyday fun. Very interesting indeed. Thanks great video.
Does a sensor curtain protect the sensor when You change the lens?
Some cameras automatically close the shutter, when you turn the camera off. If you shut the camera off, before changing lenses, it can keep stuff off of the sensor.
@@careylymanjones I know this is a problem with some of less expensive Nikon Z range.
@@SouthendSites-o4c Nikon will upgrade those models as well including a sensor shield. Using a fragile camera shutter is a very bad idea because it can be destroyed quickly without applying much force to it.
No.
@@rsmith02 Thankyou...
Do you think from zv10 Worth to Upgrade?
It was the main reason I bought the Sony @7 3 rather than the @7 c, the viewfinder was practically useless as it was so small.
The people bashing the A6700 for not having a big DSLR-style EVF are basically bashing the entire A6xxx series. The A6xxx cameras have ALWAYS been about compact size and light weight. They're designed for the backpacker shaving ounces, the street photographer who doesn't want a rig that shrieks, "PRO PHOTOGRAPHER!!!", when he's trying to get candid shots, the videographer who wants to fly a fast 24-70mm equivalent lens on a smaller gimbal, the travel photographer who wants to fit 24-525mm equivalent coverage into a 6L pouch at less than two kilos.
Sony gave APS-C shooters more resolution and better low-light performance than any prior Sony hybrid APS-C camera, better AF, and most of the FX30's video features, plus a bunch of little things, such as focus bracketing, and mapping. And they did it for the same price that the A6600 released with. It's as good as the A6600 in every way, and better, in most, for the same money.
… you nailed it! 👍🏻
How is the high iso noise performance in stills with the a6700?
How does it work to select focus point without a joystick ? I have an a6000 and that’s my hate with it. Is the touch screen helpful with that ? Thanks
The touch screen is how I move my focus points around. Easy breezy
Is the menu system better then on the sony a7iii???
if they had gave it the silver livery like the a7c I would of been temped , I know it's a tool but it still has to look good
Sony could solve all of this by doing what they did with the FX3 and FX30, keep the body size of a full frame camera and just stick a APSC sensor in it, then you get full size hdmi port and all of the other advantages of the full frame body. Give you a A7RV with APSC. You can improve the viewfinder and charge 1799 to 1999 and it would sell. This cost Sony almost nothing because they already have the body and yes they could throw in that magnificent flexible screen of the A7RV.
Oh make it as big as a full frame while pretending to be part of the more compact format, brilliant strategy lol
Just save your money and wait for the A7CII.
Imo canon rf series or Fujifilm will take over Sonys if this is how sony is reacting . The a6700 looks like the perfect update to 'A6400' rather than a6600 . For years ppl have asking to put the crop sensor in a a7 body and that would legit kill the competition but then again sony no one's care apsc as the lens lineup reflects their attitude. As a a6000 owner for last 7 years it's sad to see Sony hasn't updated may of its amazing lens , the 35 f1.8 , 50 f1.8 , 18-105 f/4 pz , the 16/20 f2.8 pancake . Heck even the kit lenses Haven't received an updated in over 8 yrs
2nd party lenses abound, plenty of choices
Great room heater
No fuji arcos in the presets ?????
I was kinda thinking the camera would have a major boost in megapixels, say in the range of 30 to 33. Also a higher stills frame of at least 15 fps. 2 card slots would have been icing on the cakes. I owned the a6600 and was some what disappointed!!! I have a a9, and the a7r5 for landscape and wildlife!!! I'm very happy for now!!! A9iii or a7000 apsc might change things!!!!
4 years waiting for indeed small changes... No significant sensor upgrade. That's what really improves image quality. Well, if you need that ofcourse 😅
All cameras Sony made over the last 6 years are more than most people need anyway 😁
All modern cameras over recent years from all companies are more camera than most people need, not just Sony.
Totally agree with this. The pixel pitch of this sensor is the same as my a7RV. I really don’t know who needs more than that.
The only thing that really improves image quality is a lot of time and practice. A new state of the art sensor will still produce mediocre photographs in the hands of a novice.
@@phillipbanes5484 I know but I was merely pointing out all this camera tech is pretty much useless without the vision of an experienced photographer. In fact we have stunning photography produced for over 100 years on cameras considered archaic by todays standards. Cameras don’t make great photos, photographers do. I honestly can’t see what new tech can improve photography but camera companies need to keep selling new cameras to stay in business though.
A6700 has AF improvements, and no sensor will fix missed focus. Focus bracketing may help macro photographers who like to stack images. FX30 video capability for $400 less.
It's arguably a better sports camera than the A7RV. Same autofocus. Faster mechanical shutter frame rate than the A7RV's electronic shutter frame rate.
The A6700 sensor has the same pixel density as the A7RV, it's just smaller.
Oh, and Sony kept the price the same as the camera it superseded. Waddya want for the same price?
For a moment I thought he was making love to the camera. am convinced to buy into Sony system.
Would you buy this, or the Sony a7 4
Neither. The Fuji X-T5 and X-H2 are a much better cameras than the A6700 except for video autofocus where they hunt. You begrudgingly get the A6700 as a wildlife-camera because of the crop-factor.
A6700+70-350mm is nearly as good as the A7IV+200-600mm but half the cost, size and weight making it a more realistic prospect to carry around with you. The 200-600mm needed for full frame is so big and heavy. If you are not interested in telephoto or macro and not already invested in Sony lenses then the A6700 should be of no interest either. For amazing Sony autofocus in video, there is the FX-30.
hows the ibis for self vlogging ?
Thanks!
Thank YOU!
All that bugs me is dual card slot vs single card shot. I could buy this one or the a7c, but nope, I have to get the A7III, if I do not want to risk a paid job...
which lens u used
One thing I've never seen people mention, is that probably the biggest drawback to APS-C is the fact that it amplifies / zooms in on lens imperfections like chromatic abberations, it is a lot more visible on crop sensors. Bought an old Nikon 180mm 2.8 ED, and first tried it out on an old Nikon D90, while waiting for the adaptor for my Lumix S5, I thought it was rather low quality, lots of CA, on the full frame sensor it's not even visible.
I’m going to guess that is really really low on the list of things people care about. People want the newer better glass on their new higher megapixel cameras. Older glass (like Nikon’s) that won’t autofocus, while it may have been good at the time, just isn’t going to cut it with the modern Z cameras. (Be it full frame or apsc)
I actually prefer the tilt screen for most things unless I’m shooting in portrait orientation. I’m happy with my a6600.
So it’s not for sports/wildlife, studio or really long form video, it’s a bit expensive as a general family camera, is it for vlogging?
Street and travel are the niches for this camera. Both are best with a small, lightweight form factor. I actually dusted off my a6000 recently. I may rent this camera and see how they compare.
@@DeanAllman Yes, I can see that.
@@DeanAllman This exactly. I’m upgrading my a6600 for the enhanced autofocus, front dial and new menu system to match my a7RV. apsc isn’t my primary system but if I’m in a situation that is better suited to a small lightweight kit (travel/hiking/backpacking/discreet street shooting) I’m taking this over my full frame gear any day of the week. It quite doesn’t match up with my A7RV for general shooting (how many things really do?) and can’t handle landscape astrophotography as well as my modified a7IV but you can bet that it’s highly unlikely that you’ll find me carrying either of those into the backcountry for a backpacking trip.
Your content is really good, but you should ask your subscribers to like it. Because your content is really good.
Camera’s these days… 🔥
Too many corners cut. When I held the Fuji XT4 or even the Lumix GH6. I was amazed by how much effort they put into it relative to what Sony does.
I have seen a lot of promos on youtube about this camera body and i wonder how much Sony has spend to let almost everybody show this camera with the big FF lenses which absolutely are not intended to be used with it and makes really expensive.
Especially in comparisons this unfair.
Please change the shape
Allready just a little lol. Besides a rectangle box.
Sony absolutely could have combined this with the FX30 to make a true hybrid camera, but they would rather segment things.
Why doesn't the a6700 have dual card slots and a fan like the FX30? Why doesn't the FX30 have a viewfinder and a mechanical shutter like the a6700? They could have EASILY made one camera that did it all, but they chose to make two with neither one feeling complete. Other manufacturers make cameras that don't compromise and work well for both pursuits.
Awesome video.
A friend of mine has cannon and he uses something called a back button focus for Airshows mostly.
Can this do that and can you explain what it does for a novice??
Thanks
Nice vid thanks! Subbed.
I don't get why anyone would use back-button AF, when the modern autofocus is so damn good. I just doesn't make sense.
Did I miss how many fps?
11fps, mechanical or electronic shutter. 25ms readout. R8 kills A6700 for $.
OH no! Not a new lens! As usual Mr Forbes, great content!
Still has blackout prone evf making action, wildlife, sports untenable. Completely unacceptable from a company's "top of the line" apsc camera.
You are the only one I have heard that has anything to say about the view finder...
Leica Q3 is FF and small and has better viewfinder -its just Sony cripple hammer
I'm fairly certain the a6k line has had the Multi Interface shoe since the a6000 model.
Sort of - the earlier a6XXX models support audio in “analog” mode. In other words passive only.
@@theartofphotography ok, so the newer ones have a more capable MI shoe? I've been using Sony for photography not really any video work.
You made a comment about the Sony A7C. Wow it was so good to hear someone else comment how small the EVF is! When shopping for a compact camera I was back and forth between the A7C and Fuji’s XT4.
I was that close to buying the A7C
but couldn’t get over the small EVF! Note I’m quite no regrets with the XT-4, lovely street camera and retro style!
I have friends who own the a7c and they're very happy. Sean Tucker is also using it for street photography. However, as you said the EVF is really small. These are the details that make someone choose something different. It's subjective and it is good to share so others can decide better :)
@@johnmakphotography I agree, it is subjective…if I wasn’t a big user of the EVF I looks have been swayed to the Sony
Sony make great cameras, but their lack of firmware updates for new features mean that you will be very disappointed with your purchase in a short time. A7S3 owner.
weird camera but im going to buy it lol
Seriously? This EVF is the only crappy thing in this camera? 1Mdot screen is not? 11fps in electronic mode is not? Single card slot not supporting Cfexpress A is acceptable?
Personally I like the a6600 EVF a lot, big step-up from APS-C Canon DSLRs I used. Can't remember the last time I used burst mode and have never had a SD card fail. My main card is 256GB so not exactly changing them often either.
@@rsmith02 Cards do fail from time to time. It will eventually happen to almost anyone. If you don't imagine how big of a problem this coud be, you lack imagination, empathy or both. I don't know what the Sony APS-C DSLR used to be like, but it must have been utter shit. Sony a6xxx EVF has worst resolution and magnigication in the ILMC market. Also it has terrible eye-relief. You can barely compose with it, forget manually focusing. Rear screen will not save you either. The fact that you don't use fast bursts of Photoshop doesn't mean that noone do. Sport and wildlife shooters do. And for them it can be the difference between taking THE shot (money shot) and not taking it. This camera was not designed with YOU in mind. This was supposed to be flagship APS-C. And instead of designing it form scratch, they build it from scrap.
Looks nice, but… How does this camera stand against other brands?
Pretty well, especially when you consider lens selection/value. Canon's R7 has a bit better specs, but you're stuck with Canon's proprietary lens system. Sony encourages third-party manufacturers to build e-mount lenses, so if your budget won't stretch for a G-master lens, you can go for a Sigma Art lens and get 90%+ of the G-master's quality for 1/2 to 2/3 of the price. And if that is still too much, Samyang usually offers 80-85% of the quality at 1/3 to 1/2 of the G-master's price.
Canon doesn't allow ANY third-party RF-mount lenses, and Nikon doesn't allow third-party lenses that compete with Nikon offerings. So if you want a 50mm f/1.4 lens for your Nikon, it will have to be Nikon.
_you are screwed if you are left eye dominant_
It's a nice camera but way too expensive at $1400 without a lens. Drop price to $600 and I'd buy one.
Love your reviews ever since you did the RX100 review with your video audio rig work-around. That was brilliant. 😊
I agree with other comments. This is a Sony cripple hammer for bad EVF / LCD displays. To me this camera is overpriced and overrated if you compare it to the FUJI X-S20.
i am hype for this, idc about the small viewfinder hahah, i have small eyes 😂
Sony deliberately handicapped this camera to maintain enthusiast level.
Weird flip up screen?? That tilty screen makes the a6x00 great for street photography!! That flip out screen is a nuisance
Hope the prices go down on the a6400. If they do, good times.
The reason Sony doesn't produce a pro level APS-C is simple.... It is bad business practice to compete with yourself.
APS-C, for Sony, going back to the NEX line, has always been about light weight and compact size. Sony just doesn't consider APS-C to be a "pro" format. It's a B-camera, at best, for Sony.
Not that Canon is much better. Canon's RF-mount APS-C lineup consists of THREE lenses, and they're not really up to Canon's usual standards, for image quality.
It would be kind of cool for Sony to bring out an all-up pro APS-C body with all the trimmings. Big DSLR-style EVF, dual card slots, faster frame rates, better temperature management, etc. A baby A9, in other words. But it would probably cost almost as much as an an A7IV. And that would make it a hard sell. The A7RIV has full-frame, higher resolution, and all the pro features, so why buy APS-C when the same money will get you full-frame?
@careylymanjones I for one, would pay the extra for APS-C improvements.
