I'm not a basketball fan but I went to a Montreal Alliance game last summer and loved it. WIll probably watch a few games this year too. Great vibe, great price, and I don't know about the other arenas but Montreal's is so well-located. I hope the CEBL keeps up like this because it's exciting.
    Greeat vid btw

    •  Рік тому

Thank you! The CEBL just signed with a deal with TSN so maybe you can watch some of the other clubs on your off-days too!

A great video comparing the two. I think NBL of Canada has a purpose being a winter league. II think its purpose is to expand to smaller markets that the CEBL may not expand to. CEBL though is looking at possibly a pro women's league, which may add to its credibility and as you mentioned the BCL Americas the CEBL being a part of now. I do think CEBL has become the main league with 10 teams, which is the largest professional sports league in Canada in terms of the number of teams. CFL has nine and the CPL has eight teams.

NBL definitely has a purpose in Canadian basketball and it has helped given a platform for hundreds of Canadians over the years.
The CEBL is becoming more “national” by the year though with multiple provinces getting involved now.
It’ll be interesting to see where the ECBL fits into all of this.

Since the NBLC is being replaced with the NBSL, I haven't really seen any news on it covered on UA-cam. Maybe you can summarize and update us?

    •  9 місяців тому

Yes - great idea. They are in the midst of tryouts right now for the BSL. Updated video needed.

The Edge signed Carl English who us from Newfoundland. He played for the University of Hawaii. He failed to get drafted to the NBA.
He did almost make a few NBA teams but due to injuries or trades teams did not sign him.
He played in European leagues and for the Canadian men's senior team.
He finished his career at home playing for the Edge for two or three seasons.
U Sports is the Goverening body of Canadian University Sport.

A lot of information in this video is now out dated. CEBL roster and pay structure rules have changed u sports is no longer requires but an international over seas player is mandatory. Check out the CEBL finals this weekend on CEBL+

The CEBL and NBLC need to merge in my mind...but I guess that is easier said than done.

    •  2 роки тому +5

I’ve been saying that for years.
But there is a lot of pride in both leagues.
I do believe eventually it will happen.
There is another Canadian league popping up out east now too - the ECBL.

No, apparently the CEBL started because the owner of the River Lions (who co-founded the CEBL) didn't like the direction of the NBLC; and doesnt' see eye-to-eye with the owner of the London NBLC club.

@ they may have to merge. The NBLC is only the Ontario teams and 9ne Atlantic team. The rest if the Atlantic teans folded it ceased Operations.
We have 3 or 4 teams forming in Canada and joining The Basketnall League run by David Magley, former coach and president of the NBLC

Hey @JoseColorado man I'm 25 6'6 220 and pretty decent all around. I've been on a juco team This year but didn't play due to personal reasons. I don't have any game footage. I've been looking into the Philippines and a few areas. I would just like to ask what my odds are to pretty much just show up to a few tryouts and hope for the best 😂

    •  2 роки тому +1

I would definitely wait on it and keep on developing in Juco or higher levels (NCAA).
You have time and there is no better place to develop than the states against the best.
Alternatively, there is also the Philippines D-League though if the PBA is too high a step for you.
That’s another option for continued development.

As far as I know that Canada has 3 basketball leagues that make the Canadian banned the FIBA competitions just like Japan

    •  2 роки тому

Two of Canada's leagues aren't FIBA-certified so they have no impact on their relationship with FIBA.
The only Canadian pro league that is even recognized by FIBA so far is the CEBL.
And they played in the Basketball Champions League of America (BCLA) this past year so they are all good with FIBA.
Unless that has changed since the competition ended!

#🥤🌍 NBL gotta Dew better…. It will become the primary standard. am not impressed by the league not being under FIBA regulation, as far as, having the revolving doors of players in between other leagues. Naah, we wanna create Canadian Hall of Famers. Only time players should consider going overseas is to promote the NBL representing their team during an exhibition game before an upcoming season &/OR we’re selecting our top players around the expansive league to form a mass promoted, “Canadian Dream Team” to represent in the Olympics wherever overseas is hosting. It’s interesting though that both leagues still lack in creating star players where even non-sports viewers can recognize a marquee player, outside of the teams jersey. Recognize headcoaches. The season format sort of resembles the NCAA (especially, with one vacant spot on the roster is reserved for an college/university talent) & with the roster lineup breakdown confirmed ma comparison to Division 1 basketball with the numerous tournaments held during their season. They can both co-exist & become intriguing to kids (ages 4-14 & 15-21)growing up overseas hoping to be scouted by CEBL recruiters to being drafted by they favourite team of the NBL at the soon to be regarded-“prestigious”Paramount Fine Foods Centre A.K.A. ‘PFC’. Check ur DM!

The NBLC has now rebranded to the BSL! Maybe time for a new video?
As for the CEBL - yeah it's starting to become a bit more recognizable. They even sell some of their jerseys, memorabilia at commercial stores in Toronto - which is pretty cool.

How about if you're a semi-pro like myself. How much are you looking at?

    •  Рік тому

Obviously will depend based on your skillset etc.
But I would say, generally speaking, a semi-pro guy would be looking at the minimum in both leagues.
In the NBLC that would be approx. $1,500/per month; CEBL would be $500 - $700/per game.

Did you go to college and was it ncaa, naia, or juco?

    •  Рік тому

I played college ball in Canada (I am Canadian) and it was at the CCAA level. I'd say it's equivalent to NAIA.

    #🥤🌍 CEBL (D-1 verzion ov NCAA) & NBL (NBA) will be in popular demand coexisting as the “standard” for elite professional basketball. Impressive pay & performance, creating franchise/All-Star players, expansion teams (Within Canada, Only), increased UA-cam subscription /viewership. Etc.;

    •  3 місяці тому

Yeah - it's doing a great job. Certain markets have huge fan bases and brands seem to be on board with it. Hopefully it keeps growing.

@ sad part is the only Atlantic team is the Island Storm in PEI (Prinve Edward Island). All other Atlantic teams left the league or folded.
Due to the fact that all road games would be against Ontario teams they were allowed to sit out the season due to costs.
Halifax and Moncton said they were leaving for another league but nothing has been announced.
The St John's Edge ceased Operations and the Newfoundland Growlers formed and joined the CEBL.
We have the Maritine Womens Basketball Association and starting in Spring 2023 the Eastern Canadian Basketball League will start in towns in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick.
