  • Capcom was one of the best game companies on NES, but there were a few games that never quite made it out of Japan to the United States. Here's a quick look at every Capcom that didn't come out here in the States.

What else is new. There are so many good games never released. What I never understood was the whole regional lockout. Wouldn't it make more cost effective to use a single cart shape across the board? And if some of the Japanese games made it east-- how many businesses ever say no to more revenue?

From what I understand about Rockboard, Capcom or Nintendo America, I'm not sure which, felt that the game promoted gambling which is why it wasn't released in the States.

Man this makes wanna import some of Capcom's Japanese exclusive game for the Famicom and enjoy them on my NES since I already have a 72 to 60 pin adapter. This reminds of my cousin who used to import a lot of Famicom and of them is Capcom's Japanese exclusive Sweet Home the predecessor of the game horror survival genre the grandfather of Resident Evil.

I expected to be familiar with all of these, but I really only know Higemaru, Sonson, Sweet Home, and the Mega Man board game. Higemaru was pretty neat; it takes a little while to get going, but some of the islands you explore toward the end of the game are WILD. Sonson, I've played, but I'm more familiar with the sequel for TurboGrafx-16, which I think was also exclusive to Japan, but I don't remember who made it; don't think it was Capcom.

  • @TheRandomDuck99

Love these videos about NES/Famicom games. There is a prototype of the unreleased NES localized version of Higemaru named Makai Island, and I think that a localized version of Rockboard was planned too.

Not on the list because it was never released at all, but there was some magazine image of an in-progress version of a home port of Black Dragon?! (Black Tiger over here) still bummed to this day that one never actually materialized. BT was probably my all time favorite of Capcom's early arcade releases. Also I understand Sweet Home was also a movie? would make sense with some of these other licensed tie-ins here.

Glad I got Sweet Home on a reproduction cartridge and it's translated. Crazy fact is that Sweet Home was gonna be remade for the Playstation except Capcom lost the rights to the movie, Sweet Home. So they made Resident Evil/Biohazard instead with inspiration.
They should do a remake for the Switch and give it the treatment like Oddworld: New & Tasty. That would be cool.
