As a man in your 40s, you ought to be able to request from your GP a blood test and a urine test for cholesterol, blood sugar, prostate etc as a general health check if you express you are worried about your health etc, maybe your family has a history of a certain health issue etc. Depending on what, they might also offer you a fecal test. All on the NHS.
The female smear test in the UK is done by a nurse. Unfortunately it is not as thorough as seeing a Gynecologist in HK who is a specialist in this field and will carry out an ultrasound of the female reproductive. I guess anything free is randomly done. The result takes 6 weeks to come back. Hope everything goes well for Chun Ma.
@JL My personal experience: It is painless to do smear test in Hong Kong, but it is quite painful to do smear test in the UK. I did it once in the UK and never want to do it again in the UK. I wouldn't blame NHS becuase it is all free in the UK, where as in Hong Kong one has to pay for it.
