UPDATE: All download links have been updated. Scroll down in the description for links to download either an mp3 or wav version. The update corrects the mispronunciations present in the video. I'll soon be narrating the next 40k Short story (also by Dan Abnett but I promise to switch to another author after that!), which I hope to have out by early February.
@Anzu Wyliei Personally I'd say Tortane leans towards the more radical side but we can't really know. Abnett clearly wrote this short story to be as open ended and broad as possible (In one interview shortly before the release of the Second Edition, he said as much), not to mention to serve as a kind of "template" for players to create their own characters, encounters, abilities etc. So whether or not he is and the Djinn blade is indeed a Daemon weapon is up the reader. As for your second question, yes I have around five years ago at this point. I originally narrated a number of short stories by Graham McNiell, which served as background fluff for W40K: Eternal Crusade. They're mostly on Soundcloud (except Terra Nullius which is on UA-cam) but I removed a couple of them, so I had space to upload Into the Dark. You can check them out if you like, although I'll warn you straight up; the quality did not age well.
@Anzu Wyliei Indeed. Not to mention the legality and copyright issues that'd crop up. If the Gaunt's Ghosts series were out of print and there were no audiobooks, then it'd be fine (apart from the huge amount work that would go into it ;) ). However they're not due their popularity and since they are, with a couple exceptions, being narrated currently by Toby Longworth (who along with Jonathan Keeble, I think are the best of the Black Library Narrators), any outside narration would be quickly met with a cease and desist, copyright claim and worse case scenario, being sued.
This was brilliantly read, you made each character so distinct as well as how you captured the ambiance and suspense! Loved every minute. Thank you for making this!
I just wanted to say thank you Jonathan I enjoyed the reading I hope that is just the first part to a larger novel.thank you again and I look forward to listening to more of your readings I did subscribe and hit the icon.
You're very welcome! Sadly this was only a short story that was meant to introduce new players, to the 2nd edition of Dark Heresy. But there will be other short stories/novellas to come.
Ahhh shoot! You're right! Completely missed that! Thankfully it can be fixed, since I saved at multiple editing milestones. I'll get onto that as soon as I can.
@@trotskyite1 yeah but it didn't get struck by lightning or anything else that made sense. As far as I could tell it was required to do a lot of calculations and died. few cases of people thinking themselves to death out there in history so what happened? Even if it had gotten struck by lightning I feel like the mechanicus would have installed a surge protector. I get that tech is shit in the 41st Millennium but I cant imagine how you could have space travel without fuses and resisters.
@@joethestrat yeah but thinking hard about navigating a storm wouldnt cause that without some severe neurological problem to start with, and if the individual had epilepsy that severe hey probably wouldnt be made into a servator. Servators would be useless for combat roles if the process of becoming one created problems like that.
@@jamesperkins2552 *shrug* Who is to say what fictional technology can or cannot do? Perhaps that one was minutely flawed and that was it's breaking point, after gradually losing quality over time. It may have even overclocked itself to save the passengers and sacrifice itself and removed safety settings to accomplish that goal. Who knows.
Can you do The BEast Arises or the new primarch novels? I think you could be a voice of a primarch no one will forget! If an Auzzie can be more of a Magnus than black library can make then you will breeze it! ThaNK YOU so much for this!
@@jonVOA great plan, Jonathan. It will make a fine portfolio piece, guessing you're an aspiring voice actor. Ps: I'm an on and off voice actor, with a lifelong love of voice talent. (Frank Welker, Mark Hamill, Black Library, etc.) Honestly enthused by yours. -All the best.
Also, people say things with an accent all the time. While it's not the correct pronunciation, it's not being used incorrectly or being confused as anything else. Do you bitch about English being different to 50 years ago too?, itself then different again to a hundred years before that? And how it changes into different dialects across space and time? Get over it son.
Ok cox, you and border princess do the same thing: you start reading, but end up just fetishizing over the melodramatic vamping if female characters. It sucks. It's creepy. It's 40k. It's not a goddamn romance novel.

Maybe something from “Spears of the Emperor” by the Aaron Dembski-Bowden.
Awesome voice! Can you do dan abnett's Gaunt's Ghost? Please 😁

Bro if you are still here with us you need to keep making these narrations. Good job 👍🏾
Excellent work, really professional. Indistinguishable from any high end audible production. Thank you
Yeah. Audible audio dramas totally have one narrator who cannot pronounce basic primary school level words.
This was brilliantly read, you made each character so distinct as well as how you captured the ambiance and suspense! Loved every minute.
Thank you for making this!
You're welcome. Glad you enjoyed it.
This was superb! Always had trouble focusing on audiobook, but this really grabbed me!
Like the author, like the novel, like the narration, more 40k please!
Oh you like Abnett? You should tell him about his talent for writing. Maybe he will take your advice and write books. 😐..l.
Well done. That was a great narration to listen to whilst painting ^^
This is world class narration. On a par with the top 40k readers. Thanks for the upload! (I own nearly 50 Black Library audiobooks)
Excellent reading, Jonathan. You have a talent for it. It sounds quite professional.
Great narration! Thank you for bringing a story to life.

Damn well done, you've got a great voice for narration.
Cheers! Been listening to a couple of your readings. You have a pretty nice, soothing reading style. I like it.
Wait... this was fan made? I thought that's the official version, damn man your work is very proffersional
If you read the description, you’ll see where it’s from
I am at 30 seconds into it and there is already a mispronunciation on the word savant.
By the God Emperor! It's back! Glorious!
Hey this was awesome my dood!!
Very detailed high quality audio
Dan Abnett is the best.
great stuff! really like your voice and accentuation. Would love to hear lots more from you!
excellent!! thank you--might you consider narrating Moorcock's Elric book series?
Fuck yes!
Cool reading, thanks much I enjoyed it. More plz ^.^
Impressive read Mr Cox!
very well done
well done, pls do more!
only 11 minutes in and I'm getting an riddly Scott vibe.
Only 10 words and two digits in to your comment and I'm getting a brainlet vibe.
thank you!
Great reading dude. By the way it's: Sa-Vont. (Sa as in Saveloy and Vont as in Font - emphasis on second sylable.)
it is - but his pronunciation makes more sense in the 40k world. they're not going to be using french pronunciation too soft :)
Great vid!
Brilliant work, more 40k please or maybe Adrian Tchaikovsky style stuff? Nicely done amigo! 👍
Well read Sir. Well read!
Except for all the mispronunciations. >_>
You pronounced savant " say vent " come on bruv??? It's sa as in saturday, vant as in vantage
Ahhh shoot! You're right! Completely missed that! Thankfully it can be fixed, since I saved at multiple editing milestones. I'll get onto that as soon as I can.

This is a Fanreading, not officially?
Im confused, you definetly can be a Audiobook Storyteller!!
Please tell me there is a part 2 to this story and it's read by this sexy voice(s)?????
If not, the emperor will be displeased.
Well done, truly. Hats off.
But it's "sah-vant", not "saevent".

So I discovered! I'll be updating the download links with a version that corrects the pronunciations, sometime next week.

Maybe a bit faster/ more fluent?
