  • In this inspirational speech, Alan Watts addresses one of the most disruptive concepts that the ever-shattering human mind fails to grasp in very simple terms. For those who are familiar with the works of Alan Watts, this is “nothing new under the sun”, yet they would sit there, like myself, totally spellbound and listen to him speak as if they would listen to him for the first time. Such is the special magic of Alan Watts. For those who listen to him for the first time, congratulation! You have come across one of the greatest teachers of the highest truth. If you could post a version of this without music, that would be great!

Just as we confuse money with actual wealth….I have actually been thinking about this concept a lot recently. Had a discussion at work about over working yourself and things attributed to “getting that green” as one dude put it. My job was pushing for overtime and working “mandatory” Saturdays. I had vacation planned( for like two years) and this popped up. I had to decline. Work was totally understanding…🤣🤣🤣🤣no they weren’t I got into a heated argument with my Supervisor. I’m a great employee. I work my 40. I’m on time and reliable. So I have no problem standing my ground on my deserved time off. As a couple of weeks go by I noticed everyone I work with slowly looking miserable. I asked a close working friend if he was ok. He said no. But my paycheck will be great… I thought to myself at what cost? I wasn’t struggling with bills. Got to spend time with my family. Make love to my wife Saturday mornings and was overall happy. True wealth.

If we taught this kind of meditational approach to life in schools, I wonder how more peaceful this world would be ?

Reality is a scary thing but once you work it out you can see beauty in little things that most people miss

Next time I get asked that casual question "whatcha been doin'?" I'm going to say I've been grooving with the eternal now.

Most of the time we believe the "real world" is really about independency, employement & how to take good care of our bodies. But there is more to life than just how Allen Watts is explaining. Like Meditation is to improve the mind itself & there is no such thing as tomorrow. Thank you Allen Watts for giving us a big understanding.

Yes, absolutely! So many people just want to talk about the past - what they did yesterday, or last week. Or while walking in the countryside they talk at length about a book they've read. This is the opposite of coming alive to the here and now. To be alive to the here and now is moment-to-moment exhilarating, even in an empty room. And living in the here and now, one is never lonely.

For everyone who find the music distracting - I've listened to both versions now and prefer this one! 😅

People live in their head.. always reliving the past.. or anticipating the future.. neither of which are real.. only the moment is real.. and how our heart feels in this very moment is what will create the potential future.. if you feel love and gratitude in this moment despite your circumstances your future will be full of things to love and feel gratitude for. You can choose this or dwell on negatives.. at which point you will draw the negative into your future.

I was crying today in the morning, rating myself, my skills and how I think I wasn't good enough and this video just made me realize how it's all just in my head and not the 'reality'
