I have an idea. Put a wash on your watercolor paper very wet , very saturated in dark colors. Them you place your seran wrap directly in the wet wash covering the whole picture and move it around to create the wax cracking pattern, when you like the look be very patient and let it dry before peeling the seran wrap off your painting. Have fun.
Very nice curve design and it's fun to watch you excitedly apply the resist and paint. I see alternative ocean themes, flowers, and forest. I haven't used mask with my guache. I want to try this. I think I have done a similar raised surface texture technique letting book binder glue marks dry before applying oil paint. THank you.
I love this technique and it has inspired me to try this,I need to purchase some materials. I love the outcome and the effect from the fine detail pen used. It has promted me to find more videos on how and what to use for this process.Thank you for posting this beautiful piece and your process along with the materials you used in your comment section.
What….fine line masking fluid. What say you. I am just learning this thing called art. Thank you for introducing this product to those without the know. I will be subscribing. I like your explorations with watercolor. The art turned out uniquely beautiful
Very, very nice job videoing and commenting along the way. You make it look so easy. Thanks for sharing and I will try it! I did smaller card sized cards and they are lovely!
What a great idea, use for the masking fluid and to try batik on paper! I hadn't thought of using it in 'large' doodling quantity so I am going to try... after I suffer thru my work day! Looking forward to it. TFS!
Thank you for fabric batik you iron out the wax. This one was done with a watercolor resist which I had to peal off. I don’t think the watercolor resist would work on fabric.
Amazing work. Last night I came across your drip flower technique and did my own version of it . It's trickier then it looks but I think I got . Thank you for sharing :) New fan .
It’s called fineline masking fluid it comes in the bottle I am using. You can find it on Amazon under fineline masking fluid. I have also seen it at Michaels and Hobby Lobby but it been a while since I have checked there.
I'm glad you like it. The resist is a fineliner with resist. You can find it at Michaels and Hobby Lobby. It is a little cheaper on Amazon here is the link if you want to see it. amzn.to/2wqEQCm
The watercolors are mostly Windsor and Newton. Sorry I don't have the exact info on them it is a very old pallet and I didn't label them. The masking fluid was purchased at Hobby Lobby it can also be found at Michaels and I beleive Amazon. No brand name the label just says Fine Line Masking fluid. I believe the watercolor paper is Canson. Hope that helps
I love this one too! Glad to see you did some masking AFTER you had used w.colors. I was wondering about that. Yeah.. I got impatient on my one and only masked w.c. painting and it was on a very dark (almost black) background.. I had gray, instead of a white, background :-(
What would you suggest to make if we would use violet, yellow and pink watered down acrylics? Also, What is watercolor ground? I'm sorry if I asked So many questions. I'm not that knowledgeable of art.
Sorry I think I missed this message the other day. I've never used Watercolor ground but I'm told it makes surfaces that are not paper able to accept watercolor. Any colors that mix together well would be good. You notice in mine I kept the yellow away from the purple. it would turn brown. when using the resist you can use any color and make the resist the barrier. if your a messy painter like I am its best to put colors that play well together. If you have a color wheel that might be helpful or mix them on the pallet before to see what they do before putting them on your project.
Just beautiful, I love the mix of colors and I love batik fabrics, I wanted to learn how to do batik years ago but never got the chance to, which masking fluid and watercolors do you use?😊💗
For this piece the watercolors were mostly Grumbacher and the resist was labeled fine line resist you can find it at Michaels or on Amazon. I’m glad you liked it. I was very happy with the results
How do I do to by the masking fluid, with the fine pen as you use Shelley, I'm living in Denmark and I can't by it here! Maybe someone would by and ship it to me???
Is there a specific number of hours that you need to dry it? I'm Just asking because I would make BATIK tomorrow at School. Also, does this work ON canvas? The resist pen and the watercolor?
Kinnara Arethusa I've never timed the drying time. But you want to make sure it is completely dry. you can use a blow dryer but don't get it to hot. You could use it on canvas. But if you want to watercolor on canvas you should probably use a watercolor ground. I have not used that before but that's what I've been told. You could possibly use watered down acrylics I have not used them with acrylics but I've used them like watercolor before
Jan Weaver I see what you mean. When I created this one I had not seen any watercolor batik and it reminded me of a fabric batik I did back in high school. I think I call this style watercolor resist these days. I hope you liked it anyway.
cool! Thank you. Now, if someone could come up with how to get the crinkled affect you get with wax that would be awesome.
Thanks for watching. I’m sure someone has figured that out somewhere.
I have an idea. Put a wash on your watercolor paper very wet , very saturated in dark colors. Oh and your artwork and design was wonderful! I was entranced and forgot to mention it. ;)
I love it. I'm going to try black india ink for a final color! Then all the lines will show up really bright. I just hope the paper can take it.
Kandice Heller ooh that could be very cool.
Learning to do this. Very beautiful. I noticed you didn’t iron it like fabric batik. Thank s that an option?
Thank you for fabric batik you iron out the wax. This one was done with a watercolor resist which I had to peal off. I don’t think the watercolor resist would work on fabric.

Kinnara Arethusa just be careful with the yellow. I think if their mixes with the purple or pink it might turn muddy.

I've done the beeswax with fabric never thought about trying is with paper.
How fun! I have done Ukrainian Easter Eggs for years. You should try those! Same sort of thing, of course, just more intricate.

Hosain Awad thank you
Sorry I enjoyed video. Don't agree to much connection to batik with final result in my opinion.
