Great video Paul. I'm sorry I missed this video when it was released. You did a great job explaining how the maximize the utility of this plugin. Very much appreciated.
Thank you for the video, great insight. At 7:43 [Query Section] it confused me for a while; I couldn't get it to work but found I had to select the "Search Field" for the Query to target
Another tip: You can decrease the load time and display more file types by encoding a thumbnail at a minimum display size; GetThumbnail ( field ; width ; height ). Also, using a text field to store a calculated value rather than an unstored calculation field, like the one included in the sample data, will improve your performance.
@myzetvanderwijst6657 Here is a video we created for you to learn how to use your own data for the gallery: ua-cam.com/video/3YECrLS1msI/v-deo.htmlsi=0d9c17letsAPQSlu
I know it's old news, I just upgraded from FM17 to 19, but I can't get the relationship to work, I already have my parent table with an existing photo table that was link and view from a portal. I created the requirement fields in my table, set the PhotoGallerySampleDate layout table to mine, assign field to corresponding field, add the offscreen parent and child unique key. open the configuration, place all those info in... but it doesn't list any image ?! When I insert the add-on, the demo work, I see the demo image I did try to create a parent/child key in the demo, just like you did and it's not working ... there's something I don't get. Thanks
hoooooo I notice something... I don't see the image, but hover the mouse over the webviewer and I see cursor changing to an hand, click random in the webviewer and a new window open with the picture... strange !! I use Win11, FM19.4.2.204 with the same version of FMS
Well very interesting... Win11 BUG !! I remote in my office with Win10, not a problem. Same WebViewer runtime version. I made a layout with 2 add-ons, one is with the filter by key and the other is the out of the box add-on, the bottom one works but not the filtered one... hummmmm I think I will submit this to FM
Very interesting indeed! Thanks if you end up submitting that to Claris (FileMaker). Hopefully something they can address with the next version/update. Thanks for leaving a comment and for watching @JF Fortier
@@ProductiveComputing Well Yes I did report it to Claris, and I pin point even more, not a Win11 bug, Win10 too, iPad with FMGo connect to a remote FMS19 hosted file will have this problem. I also found that if your child relationship field have a DOT in the field name, it will fail to work too (but you won't have a broken icon image. Tested on a brand new empty DB and inserting the add-on, create the relationship... not working, rename the field be removing the DOT in the fieldname, boom! it's working.
@JF Fortier thanks so much for providing the detail (and the extensive testing) to figure all this out. Much appreciated. Let's hope your report will trigger a future fix. Thanks again!
Hello! The short answer to this is no, most likely not. *More info you need to know:* So the container fields in FileMaker support the following formats: Encapsulated Postscript (.eps) GIF (.gif) HEIF/HEIC (.heic) (macOS, iOS, iPadOS) JPEG/JFIF (.jpg) PDF (.pdf) (macOS) Photoshop (.psd) (macOS) PNG (.png) TIFF (.tif) Windows bitmap (.bmp) Windows Metafile/Enhanced Metafile (.wmf/.emf) (Windows) With that said, FileMaker also supports the ability to view items in a "web viewer" which means that pretty much anything that you can display in a browser can be displayed in FileMaker via the web viewer. However, this typically means the web viewer is pointing to a site on the internet. Alternatively, you can have the web viewer point to data within your system as well so long as it ends up being "HTML friendly." Now, this particular scenario is twice as hard because the image format you are looking to view is not natively supported by the operating system (or FileMaker). To view these images you need special programs like Adobe Photoshop, Gimp and others. The .dcm format has the ability to store both patient data as well as images so it far more robust than a single image file we would typically see in a .png or a .jpg. Besides the programs I already mentioned, you could manually upload these image types to a web page set up to "view" them which typically involves an elaborate conversion process on the server end of things. An example would be this site: products.groupdocs.app/viewer/total So, at the end to the day, you'll need something special and potentially very elaborate in order to pull this off if you want to store these types of docs and have them available to view in FileMaker directly. Perhaps a plug-in or routine could be written to convert the file into a format that is viewable directly in the web viewer. You'd probably need to find someone with specific experience developing applications with this particular file type. Good luck and let us know how you make out of your pursue it!
Me again ! Did anyone ever been able to do something good on FM Go with that Add-on ? I use a thumbnail version of 200x200 very low resolution. The more I have pictures in my album, the sloooowest it gets, the refresh sometime take up to 5 mins on a 10-12 pictures. I notice on the desktop version, a script (PhotoGalleryFind) get trigger, probably by the webviewer. I think the more image I have and the trigger get fire over and over to quick and it keeps on loading ... I all want is a easy photo album that my sale team can add to a customer file. Using the camera to snap is now impossible to do that refresh time, so they snap the picture and back on the office wifi network they upload the image to the server. I have complains that it take way too long compare to what I had before. A portal with row with the container, tap on it and it add the picture, no thumbnail, full size and it was fast !! Network speed is not the issue, as the old way still work and it's fast, just that view is ugly compare to the photo Gallery. Sometime the webviewer will show pictures but one will be left blank, but will come back on the next refresh... 5-10 mins later. I also tried to import the image into a global field, convert to a smaller version like a 1/3 of the original and use that to save upload time.... no difference... I don't know if the global field is local to the idevice and if the thumbnail conversion is done on the device or not ?!?! but it's not faster. While I'm writing this, try to upload 9 picture, the 1-2-3-4 picture went ok, then it get slow by the time I get to the 9th.... spins for 10 mins until I see the webviewer again. A normal webpage in a browser will never that long to load 9 images with a size bytes around 200k each Thanks
Hello @JF Fortier Thanks for your question. Your findings are very interesting - and a bit unexpected too. The web viewer shouldn't have an issue just because there are 10-12 pictures. I wonder if something else is up with this. Using the original add-on on a brand new file, I had no issues loading up 13 pictures and one of these pictures was 7 MB. I wonder too if it's something in the way the pictures are accessed via a relationship perhaps and using a filter rather than referencing them directly in the pictures base table? This one might need a second pair of eyes. Maybe try referencing the pictures in a slightly different way and putting the add-on in another location in your file just for a test. It should be blazing fast to draw pictures in the viewer (certainly not 5 or 10 minutes to just to refresh).
@@ProductiveComputing To test it, I created a brand new DB with only 2 tables, customer and pictures (hosted on FMS19) and the result was the same, that is why I wrote that question. Relationship is simple customer::parentkey = pictures::childkey. On the local network on desktop, work and load fast, office WiFi or LTE same result, slooooow. Home desktop PC connected to the FMS, almost as fast as the office LAN network. It's only on FM Go that it take a very long time. I think it might be another network related issue ? But why is it working from my desktop FMA home, the FMS connection is the same ? no ? I wish I could upload my test file to another server and see if this is a network issue or a FMGo issue.
@@ProductiveComputing I did that video to show you, on my single DB just customer and photo, 1st a browser customer and you see a portal with the actual image (full size) then I switch the the layout with the webviewer, switch back to portal layout and back again. you can see how long it take to load it. ua-cam.com/video/5aajma8IAk8/v-deo.html
@sairapriest319 Hello Saira. Are you using a Mac or Windows? There doesn't appear to be a direct integration between the two, but how do you imagine such an integration? Would you want FileMaker to have awareness of your entire photo/video index where you could use FileMaker to search and store all the assets? Then, once found, click on a button in FileMaker to bring you to that image, perhaps?
@@ProductiveComputing perhaps just selected albums access? so scrapping the bridge question, what about direct from photos on a Mac. Thank you for your question. So I have a bunch of images saved in photos and I want to be able to do more searches and tracking and finding and adding notes and comments and keeping track of the images. Pretty much building a searchable catalog of them. They are artistic designs, so they are the products for sale and I want to build something where I can find and see the images in a gallery format, like in photos or Adobe portfolio and have a window where customers can have a view screen where they can select and purchase with a button. It would be great to automate a step in where they sign a contract and submit payment. Then once I am notified then I hit an approve button on my end and the image of their choice is automatically emailed to them. Does this sound doable? I love fm for its ability to customize finds and to set up quick fill templates. In this project I need objects in a collection to be viewable at the same time and also by keyword search. (Spoonflower has a very slow and clunky setup but something like that for the client user interface and more robust data for administrators and obviously even more for me to set up behind the scenes. I am not technically trained, btw, just had made some fm databases for companies where I worked in the past and love it.

Hi, may i ask a question? Can filemaker read the .dcm file ? If yes, how can we do it?
