Careful with colours, it really depends if you want a boxy/tiny feeling or if you want to make the room feel bigger. Right now the boxy feeling doesn't bother you but it might in the future, specially since there is no windows so not much ventilation if you don't open the door. But that might be my claustrophobia talking xD I would honestly do a mix of both colours. White on the walls with the door and in front and on the left your idea; you can repeat the charcoal thingy on the far right wall. I don't know if I'm clear sorry ^^' painting the roof in white will help too. But again, if you want something that will feel boxy/tiny, keep the dark colours all around. In anycase, you are fast ! Can't wait to see the final studio ^^

I'm very excited for the music box to come along - but I have to say, the POV of seeing your arm holding the lantern and walking into the super dark and empty container really looked like a scene from Amnesia, or Resident Evil, I loved it.

As for the paint color, I recently painted a room black for my friend. It wasn't something either if us wanted (her husband did...), but it turned out really well, and took illumination rather well. So, my suggestion is to try it! You can always paint over it a lighter color it doesn't look like you want, or translate on camera well.
Charcoal grey is a great mid-ground compromise. Would look EPIC with LEDs

White or Off white is the better choice and easier to change, if you want to change Black is HARD to change multiple coats of paint in your future if you want to change it! Black is quite confining as well and feeling of closeness is a hard to break through without windows and other access issues. Good Luck, Oh! you can always go nuts outside and create a phenomenal scene or murals galore!

I think you would need to think about what color the instruments are and what sound proofing options are available. Because most of the time I feel like those external foam panels are gray or dark. I also think it'd be super cool if the LEDs were on the instruments themselves against a darker background.
Black or dark with LEDs would give it that DJ vibe!
just go for a gradient. Light/white on one side of the box to gray in the middle to back at the other end. Or gray/light in the middle and fading to black at the ends. If the black gets to opressive you could add glow in the dark stars and such that are removable (maybe make those yourself and have another video out of it?). Have you asked MJ? Or little Bee? This would also be a place for their creativity right? Good luck with it!
what about a middle ground colour-wise: light grey for the bigger surfaces trimmed with a stripe of dark in the corners/edges so the LEDs really pop?
Grey is a good compromise.
I like the idea of a charcoal-ish gray, or maybe a couple shades lighter. I'm always surprised how well dark paint turns out. What if you have the black on one side and white on the other and do a gradient from one side to the other?

You have worked in a small space before, so I don't think it has to be white just so it doesn't feel small. Being white won't actually change the size. I think grey then, but light, with a bit of white here and there. Moody Music Mancave 😁
For the music box, why not do a mix of both? Have grey/black be the main color, but have accents of white. That way, the leds can reflect the color off the white surface. You could even incorporate unique patterns into the design!
Q: a very random one. But why do you keep looking out the window when filming in that office? What is going on out there? Is it just cars or are there cool Aussie birds and wildlife popping about?
Make yourself a small sound room at the end with enough room to stand comfortably to do your vocals in 👍🏽

Grayscale mural with like musical notes and instruments or maybe an audience at a popular band concert with glowsticks and stuff. Then you could put the LEDs as the glowsticks and people in different nuances of gray :]

If everything is content potentially, then doing a different mural at each end (that you could even repaint for new content later) could be a good way to combine the music with your art? Could still incorporate a modern look with led lights….
White gives a feeling of space and black does the opposite so it’s really a personal choice.
Black + lighting is a cool idea but it can also work with white. Grey is a bit boring on camera no ? unless it’s a dark grey.

The grey theme with LED lights sounds cool . I reckon it will also be suitable for both your and your child’s projects if they are going for a games channel . I can also see that looking cool in a MV if you are planning to do something like it.

Colour from led lights would show up better on white? And you could always have normal lighting in the room but have the ability to dim that lighting and use the colour lighting instead? I don't know if that works

Have you ever thought about doing a course about creating an art portfolio to help people apply for jobs in the creative area?
I think my design style is a bit different, but if it were me I’d probably frame the walls out with some wood and a thin sheet of wallpapered plywood. I’d probably go for a darker, maybe more artsy or floral design. Plus if you went peal and stick you could change it out. Or you could paint a mural on one of the walls and paint the others a coordinated color 🙂
As much as I respect your desire to have a charcoal black room cause I've wanted that in the past as well, the fact is it can be fairly depressing to have all the walls black. I'd go for one accent wall charcoal black and the others some other color. I agree though that white is just meh and I don't understand the new desire to have white boxes to live in.
Q: what tool would you be lost without on your life? Your whole life...mine would be a pencil or screwdriver.

(Not a serious suggestion) why not get a bunch of cans of random colors and paint something cool, make it a challenge.
Really though paint it in a way that makes you happy and comfortable.

Definitely not white or black. both are too extreme. The charcoal sounds nice
the music studio room debate... jazza and miss jazza is wrong. yes miss jazza needs warm colors... but not white. white is the 'everyday thing' room... a office room. i love the lighting effects from jazza but... black? cool light is feels like you are confined... your eye thinks this thing is smaller than it really is.
my advice... get the light/warm colors and just paint the wall. maybe 1-3 warm colors. then put cool/dark colors and detail it. maybe get a dark color with led lights?
