I have just done this mod. Replaced the stock Nautica ESC with the XL5, had to switch the polarity to the motor as the ESC reversed it. Kept the stock brushed motor. Replaced stock NiMh battery with 2S 5800mAh 30C lipo, it was the closest weight to the NiMh battery I could find and did fit in the battery holder. Now it performs 25% faster with 5x the run time and has reverse. No change to prop drive angle needed. Great mod, many thanks for sharing.
Just put an xl5 in my old aqua craft hammer and I absolutely love it she has way more power I might upgrade the motor to a titan 12 t
I jus did this to my Blast,plus a fan for ESC...Thing is noticeably faster! And runs for ever on a 2s 5200mah battery.
The best part for me is the run time! My son runs it till he is bored with the 6600mah 2s

The blast is a nice little boat for sure nice little upgrade- the boat probably has the ability to back up- but go slowly or make sure you seal the top with some rc boat tape. I'm highly curious to know how it does and if the stinger motor gets hot- definitely more efficient with a lipo. Great information as I will be doing the same little upgrade
Thank you. I will look into the boat tape. It does like to get some water in it. I was thinking about running the lipo battery inside a ziploc baggie or something to make sure it doesn't get wet.

Does the Motor Overheat?
Burned my motor up in about 10 mins, did I miss anything? Just an xl5?
Did you have reverse with the new esc?
Yeah but you have to switch the motor polarity wires.
I would get the xl5why aren’t you using the included stand
I did this with my blast and the throttle is reversed any suggestions I tried switching plugs on receiver
Just reverse the wires going to your motor
