In Julie Andrews’ version, I feel more a nostalgia for the past, than a reminder of the happiness lived in the past and an encouragement to live presently in the state of awareness that created the joys of the past. Though the lyrics say the contrary, this awesome performance tends to convey the message that the ability to live happiness in the present moment, is a grace that was lost. Why I experienced is that the present moment, even in 2021, never fails to make us happy and not victims of circumstances.
This lovely performance is from J.A.'s 1965 NBC special, conducted by Julie 's longtime colleague Irwin Kostal and featuring the iconic Gene Kelly. Now if only you folks at UA-cam could post the complete special, that'd be great. By the way, the special is simply titled (what else?) "The Julie Andrews Show".
Nice. Do u sing now ! U r a beautiful girl. Best wishes. She is a Great lady. Great singers. I had seen sound of music when it was released in 50 or early 60s in India.
Amazing voice! I love Julie Andrew so much and named my daughter Julie. : ) Hope we all have many good people and things in our life that we would like to remember forever.
I’ve always loved this song ever since i heard the Lettermen sing it in the 60s. Thank God i found this. Julie’s voice is God’s gift to all music lovers. So wonderful!
Julie's is the ultimate rendition of this song as far as I'm concerned. I've heard excellent renditions of the song by Steve Rossi, Andy Williams, Ed Ames and Sandy Duncan (with the Muppets!), but none of them measures up to Julie's version.
How I admire this woman! Julie Andrews, apart of the indisputable talent, is very unique and charming! 🌷It’s a great reference for many artists who still believes that music goes so far beyond the fame.
love this song and she is such an angle I Julie Andrews she is one of my fav actresses of all time!! she makes it look so eacsy ! love her voice she is just a joy!!! I respect her so much!! and allways will she is who I look up to as a actress and singer!!! :)
Its her voice echoing back in the live sound studio. Classical singers while singing on sound stages do not need to use reverb, its just the voice is that good.
The two weeks ago I watched this and hadn't heard this song and couldn't figure out later why I kept singing it in my head, then I looked at my youtube playlist....
She had such a breathtaking voice, with such lovely subtext along with it. It's just a crime that that surgery destroyed her singing voice... A huge loss to the world.
I too deeply regret that J.A. was obliged to retire from singing after her operation, but even if she'd never had that surgery, she probably still wouldn't have been able to sing like she used to; after all, she's now in her 80s. (She was born on Oct. 1, 1935, in Walton-on-Thames, England, United Kingdom.)
This was recorded live on a sound stage. There are photos on julie andrews forums that show a photo with the orchestra on the side. She seemed to have sung all songs on this show live. Recording quality was not that subpar, note that her performance during Cinderella was also recorded live on a sound stage in what, 1957?, as were her earlier stage shows. People lip sync now more than ever before.
HAD a very good voice. "It's every singer's nightmare. In 1997, Julie Andrews underwent surgery to remove noncancerous nodules on her vocal chords. When she awoke, the angelic soprano that delighted audiences in The Sound of Music, Mary Poppins and Victor/Victoria was gone."
this is great! But I remeber Julie Andrews did another folk music after this song. I really like it and I used to be able to find it here. But It was no longer here a while ago. If you could find it, I would deeply appreciate your help! I really love that song!!!! Thank you very much!
Julie's rendition of this song is the definitive version as far as I'm concerned, but other artists have delivered fine versions; good examples are Steve Rossi, Ed Ames, Andy Williams, and last but not least, Sandy Duncan(with the Muppets)!
While Julie could perform live quite readily, she fully admitted to being very good at lipsyncing her own songs. Note that there's a flute, but no flutist. Because on-stage audio recording techniques were subpar in the 70s, it pretty much guarantees this was studio recorded and she lipsynced. Note the slight reverb on her voice which could not be achieved using TV audio recording equipment at the time.
i'm also one of these few teenage fans that exist...julie is my inspiration,my idol, she changed my life when i got to know her,i owe her a great deal...if only i could meet her someday, but that's impossible...well seeing that there are still children who know what real art is makes me very happy!
i remember ...when women are the most beautiful thing in this world. i remember... their voices are the most beautiful voices in this this world. now... "LADY" gaga...... how lucky im dying now
Please dont talk about women this way. None of us want to be delicate special little flowers for men to admire. We arent here to be lovely for your admiration. Ugh.
When was this made? (Later: I've found the post that says taped April and broadcast 28 November, both 1965.) (To me this will always be one of Nana's tunes, but this is lovely. I wish they'd duetted on something.)
She leaves me speechless, my heart filled with joy and a tear in my eye.
Heaven is when you hear one of your all time favorite songs sung by Julie Andrews. Perfection.
It gives me goosebumps listening to Julie Andrews rendition of Try To Remember. 💓🌹.
gives me goosebumps, too: it's a nightmare, if you ever 'listened' to one.
The most glorious voice of all in the world, Julie Andrews' has touched our hearts through the years....
This is beyond beautiful. I can't stop listening.
I know what you mean. Julie never recorded this song commercially, yet it was tailor-made for her voice.
one of the best live performances I've ever seen. She's just phenomenal!
I always enjoy listening to this kind of music.... It brings back memories...😭😭😭😭😁😁😁😁

JULIE ANDREWS' VOICE IS WHAT MAGIC SOUNDS LIKE :)
you are right my friend
the immortality of a sweet mellifluous voice of Julie Andrews.

I'd forgotten how in love I was with Julie as a child. Just so tender and beautiful.
Didn't know this song coud get any more beautiful. Thanks, Julie
This woman is one of the main reasons why I got into singing as a tiny little girl. I have always looked up to her. She it utter class and perfection.
Me too! 💞
Nice. Do u sing now !

@@allenjones3130 Do listen to Nana's version too (196x or '7x, not 2007). I like them both.
I didn't want to cry. This is amazing....

The best musical voice.
This music extraordinarily attracts me.
It’s HER gorgeous voice and if she lip-synced or not, I sure don’t care. She brought me to tears.
The great ones never lip-synced.
Amazing tears flow and yet it's all good your kindness Buck is such a Blessing to us all Great Video!!
such beauty, such talent!
Beautiful voice!
Yes, Julie Andrews is the cure for everything
We have lost something..... I'm not quite sure what it is but the magic is gone in music, movies Etc
Ms. Ander Ander, after hearing Julie Andrews' performance of "Try To Remember", I'm inclined to agree with the comments you made a year ago.
Kindness, gentleness, appreciation and to often empathy
live theatre still shares the magic!
Truly beautiful !
The two weeks ago I watched this and hadn't heard this song and couldn't figure out later why I kept singing it in my head, then I looked at my youtube playlist....
Beautiful song sung by a beautiful voice belonging to a beautiful lady.
I miss such music in my generation...
세월이 지나 지금 들어도 천상의 목소리
Is there anything better than Julie Andrews voice? I think not!
Her voice is so soothing
Practically Perfect In Every Way! 😊💕
Try To Remember. Beautifully Sung By Julie Andrews. Also Sung By Nana Mouskuri. SS.
Julie's sooo charming!!!
I think that's the only adjective I've never gave to her before...

Really Fantastic💖✨…
Julie Andrews, it's a human loss that you lost your voice😢🙏…
I too was devastated when J.A. was forced to retire from singing, but she and her daughter Emma have had great success as authors of children's books.
