Bridear are awesome, I hope the new album brings them the success they deserve. Still Burning is so kick ass!!
Do you have any recommendations of what I should check out next?
First rule: in an all-female Japanese metalcore band, the smallest, sweetest and most innocent girl is always the growler or screamer. ))
As it should be
Scream live version by Bridear please
"Born Again," recorded earlier this year at Studio Fredman in Gothenburg, Sweden, will see worldwide release on June 28th!
Featuring 10 tracks of uncompromising metal, "Born Again" returns BRIDEAR to the group's metal roots but also reflects the power and ambition of the current lineup. Legendary producer Fredrik Nordström (In Flames, At the Gates, HammerFall, Dimmu Borgir, Arch Enemy, Obscura, Opeth, Bring Me the Horizon) has brought out something special from the Japanese quintet.
"I’m proud of this album and rank it very highly. I have worked with so many artists and “Born Again” is maybe one of my top 5 albums!" says Fredrik. Members of Dream Evil helped in the production (the album features a guest vocal appearence by Dream Evil singer Nick Night).
Even the cat liked it. Drums are the highlight. Singer doesn't have a powerful voice but overall i like this band. Now have you heard of a Korean band called Rolling Quartz. Like BAND-MAID they are more rock than metal but i really like them. Try their song Blaze. Thanks for doing BRIDEAR because they don't get enough exposure.
Bridear definitely needs more exposure, so does Rolling Quartz and DIH. Btw I love Haru’s growls!
Brave New World Revisited is a must see from Bridear, about 8 minutes long and epic.
epic is the right word! I love Brave New World Revisited
Natsumi on drums is an absolute beast - one of the best
Moe & Ayumi on guitar are fantastic together
Haru on bass lives up to her nickname Demon Doll (and is adorable)
Kimi has gotten better and better with her voice
Brave New World is great
Japanese metal is on an incredible roll, especially the women, who are kicking ass on an epic scale. Founded in 2011, Bridear are one of the second wave of all-female heavy-metal bands. They have undergone a few lineup changes, and have experimented with various styles, but they always come back to their foundation of hard-driving metal-inflected rock. They have the quintessential twin-lead attack and technical rhythm section. Here is the original lineup:
Kimi-Vocals
Haru-Bass, growls
Misa-Guitars, growls
Mitsuru-Guitars (pink flying V)
Kai-Drums
In 2019, Kai left to start a family, Misa left to pursue her own musical vision, Mitsuru soon followed, and they had to bebuild. Amazingly, they did so without any loss in quality, finding Misaki and Ayumi on Guitar, and Natsumi, formerly of Telecide, to take over on drums (after a brief trial with another drummer).
Second Lineup:
Kimi-vocals
Haru-bass, growls/metal vocals
Misaki-Guitar, audience left
Ayumi-Guitar, audience right
Natsumi-Drums
I saw them live in London just after this lineup came together, and they were explosive, playing mostly stuff from the original lineup. They have experimented with a variety of styles, dabbling in progressive and pop, but they still come back to their metal roots.
In “Brave New World Revisited” (ua-cam.com/video/_6-OXcyMkYI/v-deo.html) they’ve got a masterpiece. It’s also a tour-de-force for their brilliant young guitarist Ayumi, who has also taken on a lot of the writing for the band.
In early 2022, Misaki, who suffers from severe stage fright, left the band for health reasons, and they scrambled to find a new co-lead guitarist. They have been joined by Moe, and their first release with her on board showcases some great dual shredding between her and Ayumi.

They have wrapped the recording sessions for their new album. It is scheduled for release on June 28. I’ve heard the demos for the whole thing and it’s a banger.
All for being the weird kid in school.
