  • In this video, I do a comparison of loudness of popular songs from Bad Bunny (Trap), Bruno Mars (Pop), Bring Me The Horizon (Rock) and Hans Zimmer (Cinematic soundtrack). We check each song's maximum LUFS measurement captured by the Izotope Ozone Mastering plugin and compare. Are mastering engineers still in Loudness War or prefer dynamics??

Very good video... now a days I feel no dynamics on tracks... and it’s because of mastering loudness... best recordings don’t sound very loud, but have a lot of dynamic

Thanks! Agree with you! It’s good to see top songs with some dynamics left for us to enjoy! Louder is not necessary better, in most cases it just sounds worse.

Thanks my friend for this video!!!!!The most new tracks are so loud with gain at 98-99, clipping and overcompressed, also they make normalizing and cut the peaks!!!!
Spotify also makes overcompression in my opinion. I stopped my premium subscription and I listen free at youtube music now.
The other disadvantage is that many songs tend to be lofi like Taylor Swift Evermore, Midnights and her re-recordings. Also at Billie Eilish songs I can't hear higher frequencies.
Here in Greece they follow these bad standards on mastering the new greek songs, and old "remastered" recordings! Same with vinyl re-releases of famous Greek albums, they are so loud and overcompressed, are far from the sound of original recordings.

Good video as always buddy but can I just confirm that u were showing the LUFS for the loudest section of the track and not the overall integrated loudness? As a track with quite intro, bridge etc can have the loudest section as much as -6LUFS but end up having an integrated of -10 or even -12LUFS? Which is what the digital platforms calculate. share your thoughts please 🙏🏾 also a few quite section in the arrangement is a good way to foul the digital platforms to achieve louder sections if needs be 🤣 but dynamic before loudness always 💪🏿

That’s correct. In my mixes, I usually check the loudest part to make sure loudness is not out of control. If I am peaking at -7 LUFS, then I am pretty comfortable with the rest of the mix knowing that it has room to breath. But you are right, it’s the integrated what platforms use. I mostly care about the loudest parts since that is what could cause clipping and distortion when the song is converted to formats from Apple and other streaming services.

@@GeorgeGoire is crazy I did a loudness check in Adele's new album and the track I Drink Wine 🍷 loudness peak reaches to -4.9Lufs unbelievable that a Ballard love song album have the majority of tracks peaking as loud as -5Lufs , I give up 🤣🤣 and we still going on about -14Lufs for digital platforms 🤦🏾‍♂️🤦🏾‍♂️🤣🤣
