Abena Akuba has just been crowned Miss Grand International since 6 hours ago and in the process upset widely expected winner Samantha Bernardo for her strong and flawless presentation work carrying the entire hope of Filipino fandom at her entire back for its ever Golden crown. Pundits had our very own as the woman to beat. This is to say nothing of the contingency who had held for the possibility that it would be one-time frontrunner Ivana Batchelor from Guatemala who would take home the crown. In a night of choices that will surely be parsed over tomorrow (if not for years to come), the moment stands as the biggest upset and surprise of the night and the internet shredded into a million different opinions. Even the newly crowned titleholder herself couldn’t quite believe it.
While the internet may have mixed emotions over the surprise, you kind of suspect that people absolutely loved the opportunity to go to town to talk about their reaction on social media, including myself.

Samantha's answer was right because it's based on science. The elderly are more vulnerable to get severe infection, that is exactly the reason why the WHO and CDC recommended to vaccinate first the 60 and older because they on the high risk category. It was also heartfelt and well-delivered.

Being a doctor for me i will give to a 70 years old why? because this is the population that usually have medical comorbidities hence considered high risk group. Covid-19 infection is more fatal in adult than the pediatric population and i thank you😂😂

Miss Universe 2012 is a complete robbery but MGI 2020 is a fair competition no comparison needed. Both Top 2 girls are winners and bestie together and also trained in the Philippines under KF camp. Stop racial slurs against Miss USA because she's black. Remember this is not a hometown win.
I honestly thought it's going to be the PHILIPPINES. If the score was back to zero, the PHILIPPINES has justified and able to express a genuine- heartfelt answer among the three. Samantha really did a good job especially in giving those answers that killed them...Her answers were intellectual and heartwarming compared to the other four candidates, even with the USA. Much more for the tie-breaker Q and A everyone can relate to Samantha's answer...The question was all about the ONE dose to be given either to a 15-year-old or to a 70-year-old senior citizen. The last dose wasn't meant to be given to all 15 years old or to be given to all 70 years old that USA answered - "the children are the hope of the future" which is vague and broad same as Guatemala did, who talked about the youth....Samantha on the other hand, automatically connects to her audience which of course have their own parents that could relate to her as she gave her own family as a concrete example. People automatically empathize Sam's feeling and nailed it as true as it was since even the makers of the vaccines do not recommend young people to be vaccinated. GETZ BA NILA YON? USA should not have given a Thai language answer...IT WAS AN INTERNATIONAL PAGEANT. Hindi yon local Thai pageant with Thai audience. Getz din ba nila yon?

Ms. Philippines has shown the best performances among them ever since the pageant began, and she should supposedly be the winner. Though, she ended up 1st runner-up, but she remarkably won the hearts of the viewers knowing that the true winner should certainly be her. Everything happens for a reason. The most important thing is not the getting of the crown, but it's the proving to people who the true winner is. At the end of the day, the true winner is the one who is remarkably able to give the best show.

He repeated the cry moments of Misses Kenya and Nigeria who tested positive for COVID upon arrival in Thailand as part of final night and give another cry moment for Miss Myanmar Hann Lay reflecting on the coup troubles and fighting in her country. I love Miss Earth for its true purpose. But we should admit, MGI is really waaaaaay advance in terms of production and technicalities. Mas nahigitan pa nga ang Miss Universe eh. The smoothness of panning ng camera is great. MGI is not in top 5 pageants but the way they serve and give the viewers the GRAND EXPERIENCE will surely make it better than Miss Earth. It was announced that the scores of top 3 were even, so they decided to have another Q & A and their previous scores will be erased. Therefore the decision should have been based on the final Q & A and not the overall performance. Philippines was robbed of the golden crown.

Aminin, mas bongga pa ang exposure ni Valentina in turning over the title than Miss Universe did to Catriona. First, correct me if I’m wrong pero I think it’s only MGI na pinapaperform ang reining queen with the candidates during the opening production. Second, Valentina was given a single exposure wherein she was able to deliver her speech live (I mean not pre-recorded) and was able to express her emotions na solong-solo ang stage just like what BBP did during Pia’s time. And we didn’t saw that during Catriona’s. I hope Miss Universe will give that same exposures to their queens. ♥️

When it was top 2, it was all about “edge” -Ms USA spoke Thai and the judges preferred it over Ms PH as it was closer to the heart. It won’t be hard to work with Ms USA later on as she understood their language well.

I feel you Adam. I got the same reaction as yours while my family and I were watching the live stream last night. Todo video pa ako non coz I was so ready to capture everyone's reaction kung nacrown si Sam. We were all screaming for Philippines. Even my kids too. Pati mga titas and bayaw ko. I got the same answer as Sam coz in reality, anyone who is aged 16 below are not required to take the vaccine. So technically, the vaccine should go to the most vulnerable which is the Senior Citizen. Nung sinagot nya yon, I really thought na "This is it! ito yung magpapanalo sa kanya kase it is the reality". Plus she took it further in a more personal level, so no doubt she will win this round. Kaso, like what you've said, mailap ang korona ni Anne Cole at ayaw talaga paupuin sa ulo ng mga Pinoy. Everyone was in shock nung inannounce si US. Moment of silence bigla. And nawalan tuloy kame ng ganang kumain ng dinnner. It was past 8 pm (UAE Time). Kaloka... I really think the best 2 answers were from guatemala and philippines. We Filipinos love our senior mothers very much, we don't place or put them in foster homes. we really take care of our elders until the last days of their lives. Samantha's answer greatly showed how we loved our seniors very much with a HEART. Unlike in such country as the USA, they don't love their senior mothers or elders, they place them in foster homes. that's how they take care of their elders in their last days of their lives. AMAZING

The last question was not understood by the judges, thats it. MGI, be fair and choose judges who is really with intellect and can scrutinize what is the best answer. USA answers was not anchored with the question, it pertains to 15 year old not 16. With this, she will never be considered as a winner because she did not listen on the question given. Hopefully , Mr. Nawat will realize that MGI is really not a biased pageant. You should double check ist whats really the real scenario before giving the winner.
