Today there’s a little cafe called The Plunge in the approximate spot of the old Plunge. But a lot of ppl don’t know about it because it’s not a free standing building.it’s actually on the ground floor of a tall high tide condominium there on Ocean Blvd, facing the ocean. But anyone interested can just look up The Plunge
I really enjoyed your video!!! You did a great job!!! When My wife and I got married in 1987, we stayed at The Breakers Hotel on our honeymoon!! It is an amazing building!! Are room alone was Hugh!! My wife Rose passed away in 2002. She always loved the old buildings in Long Beach. She thought they were so romantic. She was right.
I did jury duty last year in Long Beach. We had an hour lunch so I walked down Ocean Blvd. and I walked into some of the old buildings. It's like I went back into time! The architectural of these old buildings is amazing! Some of these old buildings had photographs of The Long Beach Pike of long ago!
Wow! I worked on the Breakers in 1990. Cool old building. A lot of art work on the ceilings where covered by the new ceilings during the remodel. I did the plumbing on that project. I was at the Scottish Rite Cathedral many years ago. I think it had been closed for sometime but opened that night for a Rave party. Sorry to say the place got trashed that night!
Poly High School’s music department holds many school functions & performances in the Scottish Rite cathedral. It’s just as lovely as it’s supposed to be inside.
Nice video.. I love to know the history of Long Beach.. People forget how beautful these old buildings are.. I dont care much for new ones.. Wish they could add some old style to them and help Long Beach look classy like it once did.. Take care...Emily
Alot of information I did not know! I never thought about the vast amounts of office buildings, banks etc. so spread out back then. We have gotten used to skyscrapers consistenting of more office space in the past 40 something years.
It has a tunnel under ocean Blvd. Closed currently but will be reopening when the building that's slated to be built there opens. It's part of the agreement with the city. Should be interesting. The tunnel was put their because of all the footraffic, vehicular traffic, and railroad, etc.. on ocean Blvd. It alleviated a little of the overcrowdedness on the street.
@alexdelrio45 Hi my name is Chuck! Glad you liked the short Video-Slideshow that I made! I was just thinking about my home town, Long Beach, I lived there all of my life. I used to sell & Deliver News Papers there and on the Pike! At one time or outher I was in all of the buildings & Hotels delivering or trying subscriptions for the Long Beach Press Telegram, Again thanks for your comment on the Video.

7:57 I’ve been to the Cooper Arms Building - such great history and they have had a great cafe and courtyard, beautiful.
For anyone interested there’s a Long Beach Historical Society on Atlantic in the Bixby Knolls neighborhood. It’s like a mini-museum.
