I was a British soldier in Iraq in 2003 when the album ‘The Beautiful Let Down’ came out. I purchased it from an American PX and it got me through the war fighting phase and all the way home...just an amazingly powerful album helping me through some very dark and scary times. Thank you Switchfoot for being there with me and for me.
2010 2 PARA OP HERRICK 13 We want more than this world's got to offer We want more than this world's got to offer We want more than the wars of our fathers And everything inside screams for second life
I’ll never forget living out of state driving down the 15 in California listening to this on the radio on my way to my new job trying to figure out my life and hearing this song
We were meant to live for so much more. Meaning the people live a life of a slave, no spirituality, no love for nature and all living things. Work, watch sports, eat unhealthy food in a city where your neighbor can hear you sneeze. Have we lost our selves....... We were meant to live for so much more such as spending great quantities of time with our family, seeking truth and knowledge, gaining a high degree of spirituality by being alone. This song used to really sting when I was in active addiction because it was and is the truth. Now with 5yrs. clean time.I celebrate this song. It,s still the truth.Meant To Live will always mean so much to me.
Air1 played this not too long ago tonight.. remembering the evening in the park summer nights concerts.. Beaumont, CA.. packed great sound.. glad no one fell thru the roof 😁😁👍👍👋👋
Yep- awesome show. I am a professional musician and can tell you not many people/bands today can do live what they do in studio cause it's so easy, but Switchfoot is a great talented act. You won't be disappointed.
You can tell they were all tired and burnt out on this song here. STILL,even when it’s not their best performance, they still sound great live. If that sounds like a put down,it’s not meant to be one. I’m a big fan of these guys
Fumbling his confidence And wondering why the world has passed him by Hoping that he's bent for more than arguments, And failed attempts to fly, fly We were meant to live for so much more Have we lost ourselves? Somewhere we live inside Dreaming about Providence And whether mice or men have second tries Maybe we've been livin' with our eyes half open Maybe we're bent and broken, broken We were meant to live for so much more Have we lost ourselves? Somewhere we live inside Somewhere we live inside We were meant to live for so much more Have we lost ourselves? Somewhere we live inside We want more than this world's got to offer We want more than this…
We want more than the wars of our fathers. Man, that lyric cuts deep now that my own son is the age I was when this song was popular and we are STILL fighting the same damn wars.
Switchfoot's music has evolved over the years which may be a good thing but I still prefer their old sound. The Beautiful Letdown is still, for me, their best album yet. The new single, Float, sounds a little too pop. Kinda agree with others who say that it should have been part of FW. I'm still hoping that there are other amazing tracks in the new album. I remember the first time I listened to Fading West. I was disappointed at first but I played it a couple of times and then realized it wasn't that bad at all. Still, I wish they would go back to Learning to Breathe / Beautiful Letdown sound.
I actually really enjoyed Fading West because they found out that their lyrics could go to many depths. their roots are still there its evolved for the better
Really? You are entitled to your opinion, but this band continues to amaze me. The only difference is, it seems the last 4 albums or so, you really need to listen to these songs a few times, and I promise, once you give them a chance, you will say to yourself, " these guys are musical geniuses, and have become more creative over the years". I've seen them in concert 5 times and they are still awesome live! They haven't lost a beat to me. and I think Jon has actually gotten better as a singer since the earlier days. His voice has just aged with time and is deeper. Overall, they've become dreamier, but I don't know if we'll ever see them like they were in the "nothing is sound years".
+George Jones exactly, Jon has become even a better singer than he was before, you just gotta here I won't let you go and see how he hits those super high notes, and come one , let's be honest, the crowd is still amazed with their energy and performance in concerts
Did you enjoy Hello Hurricane? I absolutely love HH and I think WTLST might be my favorite record since HH. I wasn't a huge fan of 'Float' when I first heard it either, but seeing that song live totally flipped my view on it, and now I crank that one up. Personally I can't decide which one I like more between TBL & NiS, but TBL would probably have the edge for me.
As a little rich kid i lived like a prince. I lived in houses that rivaled mansion's. At 18 i had to live on the street. I learned fast that poverty is serious business. I learned that if i learn from this hardship then i should be merciful to those less fortunate than me. The older i got ikust had to get saved. At 27 i got saved in yje Southern Baptist faith. I felt somewhat of a change. I would spend years travelling up and down and back the west coast. After a while i gave people money and as time went on i gave lots of money to poor and working clsss people. At times i would spread the good news about the Bible. I brougjht one friend to Christ and got him baptized. Back in 2022 i was homeless in Montana. Rather than worry i passed out goldcoins and cigarettes. I proved a valid point the like the Son of Man i jad no where to lay my head. I had over a thpusand dollars on me but every hotel was book up solid.
Used to be one of my favorite songs when I was a believer. Now this song just makes me sad.. thinking that you are are owed more than the straight up miracle of even being born and being here on the planet. That you’re owed a second life, that you don’t belong here. The pure hubris of the religious mind.

Love this song. Never liked any of the Christian rock bands but this song rocks. Are they a one hit wonder? guess I will have to dig deeper. I really dig the YEAHHHYEAHHHYEAHHH!! at 3:17 (better on studio version)

The very dark and scary times must been 100 times worse for the ppl who were minding their business and found foreign soldiers invading their home.
Good to hear a singer who actually sounds like he does on the record

"Dreaming about Providince and whether mice of men have second tries. Maybe we've been living with our eyes half open, maybe we're bent and broken."
I love this song to death, but... at 2:03 it sounded like Link from Zelda falling off of a ledge.

Amazing. Such a talented band. Also there is a good Sound Engineer in there
