wow...very glad to have come across this channel. you don't find lessons and playing like this every day.
Thank you so much !! Much more to come !!!
Great virtuosity worthy of this anthem of Tony Rice's. I give this piece a standing "O".
Thankyou so much Pridgen !!
I like how I’m watching this knowing I haven’t touched my guitar in nearly two years. Even then, I couldn’t play any kind of TR… don’t know why I think I can now lol
What madeya put it down bud?
@@chrisbrennanguitar probably because I was trying to learn things way above my skill level. I can’t read music or know any kind of scales, I learn from sound and watching others play.
I gotta tell Cris,
You are a true TECHNICIAN on guitar! I’ve watched quite a few of your videos now . I believe you are Irish?
Your style is like Tony Rice.
Just wanted to tell you I think your a true TECHNICAL MASTER!
Dan
Tony was the master!! We’re just tracing his lines! But I thank ya Dan!! Big time !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!’

You’re worthy my friend!!!
Incredible talent!!
Good stuff boss. I've always struggled with cross picking i'll start working on it again. You make me want to get after it. Thanks my friend
get on it chief! let me know how it goes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Constantly flawless brilliance. I love it.
Great!!!! Cheerz will!!!!
great stuff man! I did some lessons on this before my hands got so f'd up I could no longer play. thank you for posting!
Hey Randy!! Cheerz buddy - yeah it’s a right hand killer !!
beautiful guitar playing, good sir...
Thankyou so very much Tim!! But Tony’s the main man!!
I’ve been playing for over 15 years and I’ve never had trouble playing a song near perfectly when given enough time and practice, but it feels like I’ll never be able to play this song without error. Some days I’m almost perfect, some days I mess up constantly.
It’s a very different approach to pickin - Tony was unique that way // you would need to bust open the style completely- learnin an intro is but a scrape of ice off the iceberg when it comes to this stuff - it’s not enough
Wow friend... I'll need some time with this one. Thank you!
Let me how ya get on buddy!!!!!
I'm determined to learn this thanks for the upload
It’s been callin us all since time began !! Get on it!!
perfect ! thank you
Thanks for the message francois!!!!
Thanks a lot. This is an awesome freebie!
cheerz bud
Fantastic stuff- as usual. Keep the vids coming.
THANKYOU SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!
@@chrisbrennanguitar the dry tone of your guitar and your attack works really well for this song, I have a bunch of guitars Martin's etc and when playing this song on them it sounds really messy with to much sustain. May is ask, what is the brand of your guitar?
@@vincesguitarchannelbanjois8507 hey bud! Yeah that’s a sigma guitar made in Korea - budget guitar but has served me well - A martin would be ideal someday!!
Wow!
Thanks chief!
If my American ears can tell, I sense an accent perhaps Northern Ireland? I'm finding pickers from Italy, France, England... taking Americana tunes and really mastering them. I have a few Irish tunes I try to play flatpick style... Sally Gardens and Si Beag Si Mor I got off a David Bromberg record. I guess about 50% or more of the fiddle tunes we play in Bluegrass originated in Ireland.
This is great Chris ,I had been taking a similar approach to CSB patching in licks from the homespun version, live version and even some Chris Eldridge licks. I really got good at playing this tune to tempo while maintaining clarity and note quality after studying your videos. So thanks again! If I may request, could you do a lesson sometime speaking to Tony's rhythm playing through the verse and chorus because no one is spending any time on the right way to do it!! Thanks Chris!!
Your right it’s always the intro lol - yeah that will go down soon enough chief!!!! Cheerz!!!
Wow! Thank you for this, Chris! It's a testimony, not only to Mr. Rice's prowess, but your gift of teaching it!! Quick question, do you have any vids currently, or coming up on the basics of cross picking? I've seen a number of examples and lessons, but I've been hybrid and economy picking for so long that I get lost in the consistent down / up motion of the pick. Thought I'd ask you if you had any vids or pointers. You seem to have a very easy way with this fine guitar. Cheers!!
yeah sammy! comin up - keep tuned buddy!!
Excellent job, Chris! Your version is one of the closest if not the closest to Tony's Instructional version of Church Street Blues I've heard. Could you possibly do an analysis and cover of Tony's rendition of Wayfaring Stranger in C Minor like you gave a sample of at the end of this video?
Yeah I’ll do that in a couple of weeks buddy!! Thankyou so much … that church street version was a blend of the dvd and the recorded version - glad you appreciated the video - stick with me on here chief!
Hey great video! Just curious where you got your pick guard? Is it actual TS or just a nice reproduction?
Thanks , yeah reproduction.. I’d need to talk to my mate who gave me that sigma, he did all the work includin enlarging the sound hole
This is really great stuff. Is the full tab of this version of the song on your patreon? Cheers.
Ya mean verse , chorus? Not currently!! Be will be comin
Yes....that will be fantastic! This vid has really helped, thank you.@@chrisbrennanguitar
I thought trey Hensley was the fastest cover of tony...but lm surprised with this to be seen more faster
check out my latest church sreet video "The double-jointed guitarist" its on the live vhs version.. faster again
How do get in the groove with the time signature changes? That’s the difficult part for me
Metronome- no accents .. this can be played straight through with the met!! Sometimes readin the meters blinds the ear
It's funny using the word "hybrid" because in guitar lingo it has come to mean a mixture of flat picking and finger picking ( think Albert Lee) . Interestingly, Tony has used a blend of fingers and plectrum in some of his tunes.
true!!!!!!!
I wish you would play Cattle in the cane
check four videos back
Chris, any update on the tab version of CStB you had been working on?
Just too expensive for me to do right Timothy- I know some would go “unofficial” but that does nothin for me - who knows tho - just other things more important right now , especially the way the world is right now
Hey chris , le prochain c'est Gold Rush ;=) ?
That will be done at some stage good buddy !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi Chris, I really appreciate your version as it does tidy up some of those tricky bits and make more sense timing-wise with the 3/4 bars rather than the way lots of people write it out all in 4/4. I'd be very interested to understand how you make those kind of rhythmic interpretations - however, my main question is that in bar 18 you take the time to show pick stroke direction, but your choice of strokes results in a double down stroke on the A string. This felt a bit clunky (and hard for me to do) and watching Tony play the intimate version I suspect he actually sweeps up on the D to A string and then down for beat 1 of the next bar. What do you think? You can see what I mean here? ua-cam.com/video/9JFgC3Ub10E/v-deo.htmlsi=HWl_y5WwDAd-GKSL&t=78 - it feels more natural to me to just start the run on a down stroke and alternate which gets you to a down stroke in the right place but as we're looking at Tony I just thought it would interesting to get your take. So much thanks for all your work! It's incredible.
Only seen this bud.. I’ll Needa take a look !!!
how can I get the Tab ?
Hi Jamie , it’s on my patreon page !! Cheerz
Putting the notation at actual pitch makes this extra difficult. Is that how your actual book is notated?
