I'm glad I have a large enough hill without any stops that I can pedal in zone 2 for 2hrs before I get to the top

You need a fueling video, I’m a beginner and tried to do 75 miles and cramped up so bad. Everything she said about fueling was spot on. I don’t know what to bring on a long ride and how to drink. I feel like I’m carrying so much stuff on a ride but don’t think it was enough.

I was doing a century a month and then I completed 200 in 24 hours. I felt ill for a week. It really is about managing constant nutrition especially in the first 25 %. I only bonked once at mile 95. It was 90 degrees and 80% humidity. I had to stop, drink and rest before I could make it back to the parking lot

I'm training for Seattle to Portland with a stretch goal in 1 day (more likely 120 day one, balance day 2) . After sweet spot base my FTP went up 10 watts and my endurance is much better. I've been able to validate improvement on outdoor rides I've done previously. I'm riding further and feeling fresher than before.(diet has been my downfall so far) Suffice to say I'm a believer. (Let's hope the ride actually happens and doesn't get cancelled as a result of Pandemic)

All good stuff. I am training (and hoping) to ride the HH100 in Wichita Falls this coming August. Oh, yeah, I'm 60 so an added level of challenge.

Just did my first 100 miles FASTED, water and salt only, 5hrs 37mins, 77ft/mile. This is my way of deliberately 'slow' bonking to prepare for longer events. When you truly bonk with a power meter, I mean you go dizzy and actually feel sleepy (eyes want to close, not pleasant!), you find out what your true bonking continuous power is! Mine seems to be around 0.6IF. Not tested caffeine on a bonk yet but I know caffeine is a diuretic and can deplete magnesium levels so I'm guessing I would probably cramp up like crazy!

Thanks for the awesome video! I don't remember my first 100 too fondly; I forgot my helmet and gloves, missed the start by 2 hours as I was late and had to skip the first food station (at 10 miles in) to make the time cut. The only good time I had was the massage and food at the end LOL

Is there difference between bigger guys training ( more muscular guys ) to a smaller guys ( a traditional cyclist) .. I’m built like a linebacker. 6ft 250lbs, I feel like I’m working twice as hard then the little guys that I ride with. I still workout with heavy weights medium reps. Kinda of a bodybuilder workout, not a cyclist workout. How can bigger guys get faster.

      Hey James!
For heavier riders, you start out at a bit of a disadvantage on a climbing course. Climbing ability is dictated primarily by your watts/kg, or your power to weight ratio. For lighter riders, it is easier for them to increase this ratio, while heavier riders need to put out much more wattage to keep up on the same grade. This means that it is important to choose a course that suits you when selecting a century event. The flatter the course, the less w/kg matters, and the easier it will be to keep up with your riding mates.
As for how to get faster as a heavier rider, we all get faster the same way: through structured training. This is true whether you are 100 lb or 250lb. With the new TrainerRoad Plan Builder, we can customize your training according to your target event, so all you need to do is answer a coupole basic questions and we will build your complete training plan :)
Good luck and thanks for listening to the podcast!

to technically explained ftp all that jazz . most people with out power meters are better cyclists than you 4 ,really its all hard work making descions , hydration ,nutrition .
