  • Yes that clichéd video effect is on the whole thing. No I don't care that it might be annoying. It's A E S T H E T I C for the video. Pretend it's 1993. That's how I spend most of my life.
    Pedals featured:
    Demedash T-120 Videotape Echo
    Industrialectric Echo Degrader
    Catrina Engineering Corazon
    Pladask Elektrisk Taken
    The Pitch Cowboy (Mid-fi Pitch Pirate clone)

    i love/ hate my echodegrader. Some days i think it's the best pedal ever made, others I can't get a good sound out of it whatever I do. Drives me insane, but I think I love it. Perhaps Andrew should have called it the abusive boyfriend.

      I definitely get that. Some days I want lo-fi noisy some days I don't, so it definitely goes back and forth between the two. I think there are probably improvements that could be made to it to make it more useable in various contexts.

      @@QualiaSounds I'd quite like an expression out. Having opened it up and looked inside, it's a pretty simple circuit. That being said, i'm not modding a 300USD pedal XD

    My friend made me a pitch pirate deluxe also such a crazy pedal hard to find the right sound and one of the knobs barely does anything really.third floor effects is my go to for getting anything weird built for a cheap price give him a try he's on Facebook and Instagram under third floor effects just pitch him your crazy idea and he will let you know if he can do it and a quote for the price if there's an existing PCB for the pedal I can almost guarantee he can do it

      I've got a make sounds loudly pedal it's a ehx echo flanger clone but he didn't have the right bbd chips for it so it was done the closest you can get with modern ones and it's a bit dark and very lo fi I screwed it up even more by trying to alter the clock time and haven't been able to get it back exactly right I was also trying to fix the internal oscillation it had with the flanger depth turned up I was able to acceive it sounding great in the flanger mode but the chorus mode sounded terrible so I've got it set almost the best of both worlds and I'm thinking about reaching out to him and maybe getting some more stuff done since my regular guy is way too busy right now

    This is exactly the kind of video i was looking for. Ive been making a list to try and decide the perfect lo/fi dreamy/ambient pedal... And my list is like 12 pedals long.
    So now, 4 years later, which one is your favorite?

    • @QualiaSounds
      @QualiaSounds  3 місяці тому +2

      I only have the Taken and the Pitch Cowboy left now and still love both of them. Gone off the whole lofi thing for the most part over the last few years and needed to do a pedal purge. My thoughts nowadays would obviously be praise for the two I kept and still use here and there. I dislike the Corazon as it was bland, uninteresting, and never ever felt like something worth recording to any music I made, the T120 is a massively overrated pedal using the nostalgia marketing stuff to hide the fact it's basically just an overpriced clone of Keeley delay (can't remember which one though), and as for the Echo Degrader... I question why I sold it because it's the best. Nothing sounds or feels quite like it and regret selling it often. So I guess my favourite is one I don't have anymore because I'm an idiot.
      After going through many, many, many pedals and having been in a bunch of different gear 'communities', I think I can safely say don't believe the hype of a lot of this stuff. Follow you ear and your sense of what you actually need and ignore all the other hype nostalgia marketing 'limited edition' nonsense. Bit cynical and mildly off-topic I know but heed such words of warning and you'll save a good amount of money lol. Thanks for listening to my TED talk. PED talk perhaps? Wait no that sounds questionable at best....... hmmm

      @@QualiaSounds I am HERE for your TED talk, greatly appreciated. I live rural af and can't afford to buy $10k in pedals, so been doing the research and the shortlist is way too long: Thermae, Tensor, Meet Maude, T120, Taken, Rubberneck, Bleak District Tapescape, Meris Polymoon, Swan Hunter, Echo Dream 2, Habit... Too many.
      Great to hear your opinions. Bummer the T120 didn't live up to your expectations. I wonder what Keeley it was imitating. Would be keen to hear if you tried any others in the list.

    • @QualiaSounds
      @QualiaSounds  3 місяці тому +1

      @@northernmostbecker I checked, the T-120 is basically a slightly modified Keeley Magnetic Echo (except the Keeley doesn’t have a volume drop either). I’ve tried a few on that list. Thermae is undoubtedly the best sounding delay I’ve ever played, however IMO (and same goes for all CBA imo) it’s too overly complicated (I prefer simple) and I hate MIDI and dipswitches and stuff so never used about 80% of it. So, amazing sounding but not worth it if you don’t run MIDI control.
      Meet Maude is fantastic but VERY dark, an acquired taste perhaps. Tensor is very different but I still actually have one and I use it constantly. It can do delay but I wouldn’t put it in this category. Echo Dream 2 isn’t to dissimilar from an Echo Degrader but I prefer the Echo Degrader personally. All Meris stuff (to me) is so hyper-clean and pristine that I find it absolutely awful lol. I’ve not used the others you mentioned but I’ve heard great things about the Rubberneck and the Tapescape.

    The Pitch Cowboy: Does it create the reverse sound? Where can I get it? How much would it cost?

    • @QualiaSounds
      @QualiaSounds  3 роки тому +2

      the reverse sound is just the looped guitar part reversed in the looper off-camera. The Pitch Cowboy is just a clone a friend made of the Mid-Fi Pitch Pirate. So the one I have isn't technically available to buy, but you can find the Doug/Mid-Fi on Instagram if you want one direct from the source (though if you're also located in Europe I don't think he ships his stuff here). I can't remember how much they cost but they aren't too expensive.

    • @QualiaSounds
      @QualiaSounds  Рік тому

      Most PT2399 delays have some crossover with each other but none I can think of get to the most extreme parts of the ED, perhaps the DBA Microdream is close-ish to some degree while being cheap(er). If it's just a more modulated delay that's lofi-ish that you want then go for the Mid-Fi Pitch cowboy, clones are out there too for reasonable price (hence the Pitch Cowboy shown in the video). If you're really lucky you might be able to get something from Ezhi&Aka to get kind of close but there's often difficulties with him.
      Overall most of these delay types are pretty pricey (at least the ones I know about, I haven't kept up much lately) which is ironic considering you're basically paying a lot to sound kind of shit lol

    Fantastic video, once again. Have you tried using the Taken as a modulation pedal sans delay? Does that seem possible-ish? Is its modulation algorithm random?

    • @QualiaSounds
      @QualiaSounds  4 роки тому

      Cheers. There's always at least one repeat even when the delay time is turned to minimum. The result is a kind of weird metallic chorus sound with a slapback sound, similar to the stuff Pladask's Romferd pedal is capable of doing. Not sure if the modulation is truly random or not.

    • @RustyTonesJr
      @RustyTonesJr 2 роки тому

      @@QualiaSounds I got a Romferd and it's a non tape lofi delay pedal all the way. It is a turbo delay pedal. The slowest speed of the delay is fast. But it get real fast delays and they are tight. Then I put it into a Mooer 005 with a gate pedal, into the T-120 V2 DX. The slowest speed of the Romferd is around the same as the fastest speed of the T-120 due to the amazing degradation. And the Tone control on it rules. So it's fun to combine them. Then I set up the sparse verb on the Nightsky with a "short" decay and adjust the echo timing and the delays sound real thick.
