Beautiful drone footage, it's nice to see these gorgeous homes from above. You get an entirely different perspective. Thank you again for all the "history" you bring to your video's. It means so much more when you know a bit about them. :)

What a great story...so good to enjoy a well researched piece that helps us understand the monuments:boy,in those days rich was RICH (where did all the wealth come from?) and hate was legendary.
Love, love, love all your videos so rich with history that the buildings almost return to life. Thanks so much for sharing your hard work. I look forward to your future explores in Scotland. 👍❤
Love the history lesson,it was fascinating to hear about the brothers and their sibling rivalry.... The adultery, imprisonment of Mary. The mansions built just to impress each brother( jealously). The 17th/18th century history lesson was full of jealousy, revenge, adultery, betrayal and more... 💕👍🤔
Gorgeous place and a sad history. Love the drone shots 🤗 leaving the roof tops off New builds is done in many parts of Spain today for the same tax evasion. Thank you for a lovely video 😊
While both explores are certainly a treasure, I remember hearing about this the Jealous Brothers quite some time ago. I love the history you have given us in this video. You are in my top five favorite of explorers. I often share your videos with my sister who, you’d better sit down for this, doesn’t have ANY Social Media accounts...not one! 😮🤯😮 I know...right? She will click links that send to her through her husbands Facebook account, but that’s about it. Being critically ill, spending most of my time in bed, it makes me sad for Mary. Though what I go through is nothing compared to the suffering she endured, I do, at times, get very lonely. Life goes on outside the walls of my bedroom, just as it must have outside the walls of her prison. I get visitors from time to time, she most likely got none. Being so lonely that she began to have conversations with herself and pictures in the wall. I can’t imagine how she kept her sanity intact. It’s too bad that you were not able to get inside of this beautiful place. It looks as though nature is doing what nature will do best, reclaiming the space. It’s sad to think that no further documentation of this building will happen. Thank you for once again giving a wonderful tour, as much as you were able, of a place that certainly deserves much greater attention than to be blocked off from the world by a fence that doesn’t allow the beauty to be shared. ✌️❤️✌️
Thank you. That has to be hard, and I can see how you can understand her situation so well. We will return at least once more to try to see what can be done, but there is a plan to develop it, and of course, fencing, and the farmer who works every day literally on top of it. I don't give up, though! Glad that this struck a chord, and hope to be able to keep sharing these stories with you and your sister too.

Very cool 👍 such a sad story about the brothers, both in the outcome of the people as well as the mansion. And the one in Ireland it's amazing how the plants and Mother Earth are taking over. The view was amazing 👍
Thank you. I felt telling the history first might make the place mean more. So many videos run through a place quickly with no context. It was our first use of a drone, so that's awesome to hear it came out well too!

Good lord! Imprisoned in her bedroom for 31 years! The things men were (are) allowed to do to women! Other than that.... excellent video! Loved hearing the history and seeing the buildings! Ireland is the home in my heart. I subbed and am excited to tour abandoned buildings in Ireland with you! Thanks!
Since this is a active video, I will subscribe to this and follow. I really thought that there would be footage of the inside of a building. This castle fair is something that I don't have a lot of interest in but because of the quality in the video editing I feel deserves support. Thank you for the respective way you presented it
Thank you Morgan! We always try to get inside but as things go sometimes we fail. I am glad you enjoyed the larger story. I felt it was time to tell, as it has not been done in video. I think you'll love what we have on the way for you.
Nice drone shots, there! Seems like you guys are quite good with it already! If you get a small drone, possibly you can fly it through a window somewhere? That might go down as "trespassing", depending, but you'd avoid a lot of rotten floors.
Good point. The current plan is to fly into high up inaccessible areas once we stop being horrible at flying it. Then we will truly see some lost sights!
@@DesertifyUrbex ---- Great idea, to turn the drone around and show the view from up there! You show a real eye for the panoramic. (Isn't modern tech great? Then, the art of the people like you who use it, adapt it, and show us.) P.S. Tell us about your crashes - you know readers love disaster stories (joke). The story of the bad guy there in the history of the place, Robert, somehow made me think of R.L. Stevenson's "Kidnapped", only worse. Excellent research and story telling.
Ah yes the crashes. We actually ran the drone into a tree and have had to replace some parts 3 days before the next trip! Luckily I bought one that is rugged as I predicted this. We're going to try some more creative approaches with it, and it should get interesting.
Wow, you've got me fascinated with the history of this family, what horrible, wicked and disgusting human beings, these were real people and the thought of what that woman must have endured, suffered is unimaginable, women had no rights, no voice, no protection, I'm sure the husband and others must be burning in hell, I wonder if there are any descendants today, thank you so much for your research and sharing!
Very welcome! I have heard that the English overlords in Ireland had much less oversight, and thus often were extreme examples of power gone wild. This tale is a classic example, but I have come up with some others in videos of Ireland I have done. So much more left to be told.
Be careful they don't hunt you instead! Thanks for watching. I have wanted to share this wicked tale for a year or two, and glad to get the chance to do so.
Belvedere house is in Westmeath, Mullingar. It's a beautiful place and you can see the wall of jealousy . It opened to the public about 20 yrs ago but a small group of us kids along with some school teachers and priests & nuns from our Dublin mountains parish went in for a tour around back in the late 70s , we were staying for a week at nearby Coolure house , a children's holiday retreat . I dont know how or why we gained permission but it was a place & story that stuck with me .
Yes, it is nice what they did with the house after saving it. I heard back some decades ago the wall was overgrown and more ruined. What did it look like when you were there in the 70s?
@@DesertifyUrbex It did have foliage growing on it and I don't remember seeing it look so clean or have gates anywhere on it, also we walked through trees and long grass to get to it .
Hi Sandi. This is a good article on their decline and the tax issues. Mainly removing the roof prevented it from being taxed as a building. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/English_country_house
Sandi's Curious Things ----- I detect a taxpayer. That one got my attention, too. It sounds like just the kind of lunacy prevalent these days in the British Isles. Preserve something historic, and we'll penalize you, but if you deliberately let it go to ruin, you have our tax-free blessing.
You're welcome. It's interesting to note most Irish houses were destroyed in the 1920s during the fighting, while in the UK around 1,200 were lost in the 1960 due to taxation issues and changes in wealth.
G'day the CC for Hearing Impaired is missing. Thanks. It is so sad that so many United Kingdom Mansions had become ruins as a result of the up keep costs.
Hey Terri. I have all my videos set to automatic English CC, but for some reason a few refuse to work. I have tried to fix this one a bunch of ways, and no luck. I will keep at it, though. Not sure why it stopped working lately.
@@DesertifyUrbex I have watched many of your videos. I LOVE them so much. I know you try hard to have CC on ALL your videos. I only mentioned it on the chance you could "fix" it. Thanks for trying. I hate my hearing loss. xxxxx
I can only imagine. I spent an hour or two wandering the lawns of the sister mansion, seeing the follies, statues, gateways and gardens. The 800 acres around it are mostly overgrown, but I am sure there are lost stairs, statues and other pieces nature has covered. Thank you for exploring this lost place with us.
Hi Eileen and thank you! Until the 1970s or so taxable properties were those with roofs. There was also a window tax which led to people walling up or getting rid of windows. These things no longer exist but were the cause for the demise of a large number of buildings in the UK and Ireland until the end of these tax schemes. Probably a good thing they were annulled.
Tht was one crazy family. Love the history and drone footage. Irish aristocrats were notorious for their ruthless treatment of tenant farmers during this time. british aristocrats tried to set them straight concerning their ruthless behavior toward their servants but the irish wld hve none of it.
It was a terrible time. I learned of the hanging from a local I spoke to and then found an actual handwritten memoir speaking about it which led to the mystery of the coat. Lots of injustice back then.
So sorry, do not mean to stir things up. I probably go overboard sometimes, esp abt history. Will stay more neutral and put replies in replies. U can take tht comment off if u want, dont want to make others uncomfortable.
I think that is the real history we are meant to preserve and glad to share it with you all! We are going to be heading more and more into melding these tales with the sites.
Great background on this house, I was wondering if you can give me some information on another mansion. The mansion of Stairs you filmed in a previous episode Lost Mansions of Ireland. Thanks
Hi Anna. This was out first ever use of the drone for a video, but since this we have used it to mainly scan the rooms inside each location from above. Thank you for watching and I think you will like what we've done with the newest ones.
These videos make me sad but happy ( my ancestors were baron and I could have been one but the revolutionary war happend ( whit h I am happy for btw but still... ))
History is often so romanticized, but when you look deeply people are people and do horrible and great things just like they do today. It is sometimes made more fascinating by the lack of constraints on behavior, like in this case. The Anglo Irish nobility were no exception! I felt this one needed to be brought back to life as it exists only within the cultural memory of a small region. Thank you for joining us on exploring their wild tale.
Thank you! Yes, the charges back then seem pretty trivial today. I suppose it shows just how far we have come. You're going to love the new stuff. Thanks for watching.
'Is the tyrant dead?' Those were the words spoken by the wife of the wicked earl when their children came to release her from her imprisonment. They came for her the very minute he was buried. I saw a short movie about this, that's how I know.
That's really interesting. I had never heard of a short film about it. I am curious about theories on his possible murder as well. He had so many enemies and died in such an odd way.
@@DesertifyUrbex . I went to Belvedere Castle & saw the movie there, they also do guided tours of the manor house. My sister lives in Mullingar which isn't too far from there.
Why don't the government protect and clean up somewhat these beautiful buildings, clearing grass and over grown stuff. Seems a shame to see them like this tho
The good news is that some mansions have been undergoing private or public restorations, but there is a general sense of the buildings being like southern US plantations. In other words they hold bad memories of oppression for many in the communities. It is sad as their architecture is amazing, and a real loss when they are allowed to reach this state.
Right? It also stretches to stone circles used as target practice, mansions used as target practice, etc. Certianly a theme that starts much earlier than WWI.
Envy and jealously is ruinous to the bones from the beginning of time to present. It's such as waste because in the end, we all die. "THINGS" are left behind. So what's the purpose? Selfishness will end a relationship permanently.
So true. I once told my life insurance company, as they were confused about the beneficiary to just throw the cash on top of my casket. So many are obsessed with materials, or what others have. As you say, they are all just things!
Ahhh, been waiting to watch this one - but since I'm as deaf as a stone, I can't follow it without the subtitles. I'm going to leave it until they're up.
@@DesertifyUrbex No worries, pal, if the Irish are good at anything, it's waiting: waiting for their pints of Guinness to settle; waiting for the English to give us back our freedom (for 800 years)...I can wait for the subtitles.
Kind of fitting that these old estates are being handed back to the Irish Republic, and all the free loading "owners" are unable to extract the high rents from the natives once needed to fund their lavish castles and lifestyles. Still, a sad life for his unfortunate wife. Nice musical touch at the end with Si Beag Si Mor, the tune is over three hundred and fifty years old itself, composed by Turlough O Carolan the blind Irish Harper and composer, last of Ireland's great Harper's.
I totally agree. The land belongs to the people and I am glad some mansions have been preserved as they are amazing works. I am a bit of a secret fan of Turlough. He composed so many great songs that compete with classical composer's works IMO. Thanks for checking the story out :)
@@DesertifyUrbex Ruadhri Dall O Cathin is another, or blind Rory o Kane in English. Ireland was full of composers, historians, storytellers, musicians , brethens before the collapse of the old Gaelic order. I think give me your hand is one of his tunes, it is said he wrote the air to Danny boy also, but the original words are lost, he devoted it to his patron the O Cathain Chief lamenting his imprisonment in the tower of London, his land was then stolen. The Chief died in the tower in1628.
Money, greed and arrogance will always kill love. In todays age when the last tree has been cut down, the last fish taken from the sea, and the last mineral extracted from the earth what will the world leaders say, its only a minor setback? Grazie.
Sadly this is a great example of a cautionary tale about greed and power. If only we heeded our past. Thank you for watching this one. It took me two years to gather the information, visit and explore the site at least by air. One day perhaps yet I will see inside...
The roof removal prevents further taxation of the house, which had a tax based on the roof and number of windows. A terrible idea that wrecked many buildings.
Let me just say the maid the husband was having an affair with knew what she was doing.. She wanted the wife gone and him to herself.. What perfect way to do that? Accuse her of having an affair... Woman can be very evil
Aha, I had asked what people thought of the various mysteries and intrigues and you're the first to mention this. I also had wondered if the daughter or son had a hand in his eventual "accident".

Nice to 👀 this place,such a 😢 tale behind it😕
Thank you. Truly a lesser known tragedy of the past.
Very good video mate
Thank you!
Class act!!
Thanks :)
Thanks for sharing this story..love to visit that place and hunt some ghosts..🤓♥️♥️♥️👍
Be careful they don't hunt you instead! Thanks for watching. I have wanted to share this wicked tale for a year or two, and glad to get the chance to do so.
I always enjoy tales of jealousy betrayal and murder!
This is a juicy one. Glad you enjoyed!
@@FIONA21ful Wow, okay so it does sound like it was not well up kept. Would have been interesting to see it in that state.
Fantastic 😁 I'm now subscribed
Awesome! Lots coming from Scotland I hope you'll love.
Beautiful!
I have a question though. Why would removing the roof prevent paying taxes on the home? Or did I misunderstand
Sandi's Curious Things - my guess is no one can live there without a roof.
Makes sense in a backwards sort of way I guess. Thanks for responding
You're welcome. It's interesting to note most Irish houses were destroyed in the 1920s during the fighting, while in the UK around 1,200 were lost in the 1960 due to taxation issues and changes in wealth.
Very interesting.
Thank you!
I hate my hearing loss. xxxxx
NP Terri. I will be going through videos periodically to see which ones can be fixed as there's a bunch UA-cam hasn't enabled.
@@DesertifyUrbex THANKS.
such a tragic tale
It really is. Thank you for watching Gladys.
That land must have been sooo beautiful when the house was first constructed.
Beautiful piece of land
It is a really neat and well maintained gardens. Very worth seeing.
Beldevere House is beautiful, i have been there and walked in the gardens and seen the wall/folly.
It really is.
Fascinating stories, still wondering what an intact roof has to do with paying taxes.
Awesome! 👍👏👏👏
Thanks Jan!
Not at all, no worries. these mansions bring out all kind sof emotions in the viewer, the locals and others. It is why I love sharing them partly.
Wow! Removing roof to save on taxes. Sounds a bit like cutting nose to spite face.
Enjoyed! Thank yoy
Hah, great analogy and sad truth.
Also thank you for going above and beyond in telling a good story. Literally going the extra mile to tell a good sto=y!
I think that is the real history we are meant to preserve and glad to share it with you all! We are going to be heading more and more into melding these tales with the sites.
Well now the sun shines right down into that dark house. Thank goodness.
I do hope to film inside some day. It will take luck or knowing the right person but there's that last part of the story.
Awesome video bro!! Your the greatest!! You inspired me to make my channel!! Same kind of content!! Check it out when you have time!!
That's awesome. I will swing by :)
That's quite the history and brutal to be honest
Not your standard bedtime story for sure!
I very much enjoy all.💓😻👵
Thank you!
Great background on this house, I was wondering if you can give me some information on another mansion. The mansion of Stairs you filmed in a previous episode Lost Mansions of Ireland. Thanks
Thank you. That one is very closely kept and I made an agreement with another explorer to never share the location.
SAD HISTORY !!!!!!!!!!!!
The Beauty of History, Is But Of Sadness. The Castles Are Just Mere Shells Today.
It's true, they are hollow receptacles for these stories, which I think are the true things we can save.
The History we Don't Learn in School.
Exactly! I had to mostly teach myself, and peeling back that veil took me in directions I will never regret. I hope more keep doing so.
Thank you for Sharing Your Experience with Us. I do believe that Respect is the Most Important for us to all Provide. So Please Be Safe Out There.
Can you start filming looking down into the old rooms please?
Hi Anna. This was out first ever use of the drone for a video, but since this we have used it to mainly scan the rooms inside each location from above. Thank you for watching and I think you will like what we've done with the newest ones.
THE WICKED SHALL PERISH AND THEIR SEED
definition of a haunted house
Haha, yes this one very much looks the part!
Criminal conversation? Yikes! I loved the history lesson/biography you managed to wrap into one video. Great work!
Sad history ..
Truly. Thanks for watching!
Lot of these homes seem to be destroyed after British Troops are stationed in them. I begin to see why this became a issue in the American Colonies.
Sorry about that, not sure why it hasn't let me add them. Frustrating but hopefully soon!
Thanks again, very enjoyable.
Dammm, to be kept locked away for 31 years with out human contact or anything...😵😵😵
Pretty crazy isn't it?
I wonder that was ever made into a movie??
As far as I know there is no official adaptation of the story. Pretty strange.
Doesn't nature dress things beautifully ! Subbed by the way 🙂
It makes every place more beautiful, I think. Awesome!
I love these old mansions when they get taken over by all the ivy.
Thank you :) Some truly amazing ones in that regard lined up in Scotland right now.
When Removing the roof they don’t owe taxes, is that due to the place not being livable any more.
I believe so... Shes very lucky they didnt kill her since adultery was one of the worst things you could get accused of back then...
Your'er right about that. The coat case at the end certainly spelled that out!
nice but with all that bloodshed creepy indeed
Thanks for checking it out with us!
Narcissistic Personality Disorder gone wild & allowed to dominate the entire family & whole area.
Truly Irish nobles had no bounds back then within their lands. Led to some interesting stories lol.
That's a lot for one family. Clearly the curse of easy money
It certainly did allow them to reach depths of eccentricity! Maybe not Grey Gardens level, but worse in many ways.
The brother looks mixed
