I think the first lake with all the skeletons was an old burial ground. Strange place to cart bodies though, when they can be cremated or buried much more easily elsewhere. You would think there’d be records of it too. I’ve heard of a place on Everest called Rainbow Valley, where lots of people who died on the mountain have been placed. But as this lake wouldn’t have anywhere near enough foot traffic as Everest, that theory doesn’t really hold up.
The problem with that idea is that there are numerous ethnic groups found among the skeletons in the lake. So saying it's a simple burial ground is a load of BS.
Have you ever heard the story of Alexander the Great? History says he conquered almost the entire Persian empire, which did span across through the Himalayan mountain range. So some of those skeletons could be Greek soldiers, who were passing on their way through the Himalayas, who died of hypothermia or total exhaustion, due to not being prepared enough for those hikes. And if they weren’t prepared enough for the long hike, they probably left behind along the way some of their weapons and gear just so they could cut down on weight. That could explain why you barely see any weapons in this lake. 11:10
i think it was one weather incident and also people were burying their dead people's bodies in there that's why they are from different time periods because as you said the lake protects bodies from being destroyed
Seems to me like it's a good place to lay someone to rest if they died on the path. People probably thought, "Nobody will disturb them here". If only they knew.
What i think about the first lake: so i am an indian myself and i have studied my country's history. All the theories here can be true and i want to add my own. Now, i have learnt that most of the kings dont burry their people, but instead flow them in a river so some bodies could have just died in war and were flown into this river which soon became ice and the bodies stayed at the end which is Roopkund
logical explanation is the same story for every lake in indonesia. Where its used to be a village but some water squirt out from the ground then it turns into lake then the lake freeze and it all happed when they're asleep
My theory is that the lake was first found by cavemen or tribesmen on scout missions or just to set up new camps but then war broke out and civil wars started, both sides were dying and in the end a few hundred died but a few centuries later there was another scout mission that traveled but got stuck in a snowstorm and most of them were wiped out. Then the survivors quickly died a few weeks or months later due to lack of food and slim survival chances. The temple would probably built in the late middle ages but that has probably nothing to do with all the skeletons and stuff. The umbrellas and stuff in the lake further supports my idea of tribesmen and stuff there, and a war probably broke out. Another reason is that some travellers were travelling and they hoped fish would be in the lake, but instead the water was too cold or a blizzard/snowstorm happened.

I've visited the boiling lake before. It is a six hour hike and boy was i tired. We have to climb high heights and then go down a steep valley. The up and down is what gets you. The paths are usually slippery as it always rains. The duration is worth it though. But I don't think I'll go back there.
Hypothermia could also be a thing. People will feel cold but right before they die they feel extremely hot and take off all of their layers and if they lake was close enough they could have jumped in. Just a theory
Yeah it's called paradoxical undressing and it's essentially a psychological phenomenon where extreme cold temperatures make you think you're really hot. You then take off all your clothes which makes hypothermia set in even faster. I think it's also been known to relate to mass hysteria which could explain why there were so many people that died
@@HK_Brick_Productionsparadoxical undressing isn't a psychological phenomenon though. The brain's wiring gets crossed up as a result of the extreme cold, and it interprets extreme cold as heat. It's neurological.

You know I'm wondering if the reason they're so much diversity as far as the ancestry of the bodies in the lake is simply due to the fact that the lake was for many many years an impromptu burial ground for travelers regardless of where they came from. It seems to make sense to me anyway. If you think about it that is a pretty inhospitable environment where are you going to bury your dead if some tragedy befalls you. Digging a grave seems like it would be pretty difficult it's clearly a very icy and rocky place. Maybe people are just overthinking it? We find ancient graveyards all of the world on land. Maybe this lake in this very remote mountainous area is just an impromptu graveyard for many a traveler over large amounts of time.

What if you were right about the burial grounds and when the ground was visible to the surface a hail storm had happened and only some got hit and the others intact
A possibility for the ~1800 era: At the time the Greeks were fighting for their independence. It is recorded in history that thousands of them were sold as slaves in the markets of the east. If they continued to be rebelious some could have ended in this lake.
Great video, the Himalayas are so treacherous it is macabre if not entirely surprising, fits given what a graveyard mt Everest is these days.. BTW, if you were surprised by the Indo-Greek kingdoms; yes they are descended from Alexanders conquests, and were both massively influenced by and influential to Indian cultures of the time. There are some great videos on youtube about the Indo-Greeks.
Baikal has the only freshwater species of seal. At sometime the lake was part of what is now the Arctic Ocean, and over a _long_ time became cut off and turned into fresh water. Seals that didn't retreat with the seawater remained and now have evolved into the species found there. If someone goes there without knowing about them, from a distance they could easily mistake them for hominid creatures (seals can look quite human from a distance, esp when swimming). I reckon this could explain some of the sightings of "weird beings".
The scientists only tested some skeletons so what if some dated back to the first humans trying to escape mountain ranges but they got frozen and when their ice melted and because of the tectonic plates movement slid into the lake where they were once again preserved in ice and are still not fully decayed to this day 14:46
This is remarkably simple to explain. First, dead bodies tumbling down slopes would be stacked at the shore, and would not be evenly distributed everywhere in the water. Just put that aside. It won't fly. Other than facing occasional bad weather, or hail stones, over a long span of many centuries, people traveling long distances frequently found themselves with depleted stores of food along the way. From the top rim, looking down into the valley, travelers would see a lake. Some people would hope the lake contained fish. Instead, what they found was a small bit of water at the bottom of a huge bowl-shaped valley. Carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide are both heavier than oxygen and nitrogen, so time and time again unlucky travelers ventured down and onto the ice. While laboring to break holes in the ice and do some fishing, some people would chance to be on the ice during a time when the local minerals emitted deadly invisible gasses. Over a long period of centuries, enough people died of asphyxiation to account for the 800 bodies. Every now and then, the ice would melt during a season of relative warmth, and the dead bodies would sink where they fell. At other times, people peering over the top rim would see one or two human bodies on the ice, and would be curious enough to go down and investigate during a time of low oxygen. This would also contribute to occasional new deaths. It is important to understand that this simple explanation would not mean the bottom of the valley would be permanently filled with deadly gasses. Instead, it would happen on an occasional cycle, but it would happen often enough to create a steadily growing body count over the centuries. At many other times, it would be perfectly safe to go down to the bottom of the valley, and be spooked by the skeletons. This is the simplest explanation that would repeat occasionally over thousands of years. Occam's Razor.
That's a pretty good explanation actually the only problem is that nobody has died in the lake since the 1800s, so if your theory holds then either there would have to be some reason that the cyclical emission of gas stopped, or the researchers and pilgrims would have to have been extremely lucky about the time they went down to the lake. Interesting theory though 👍
@@HK_Brick_Productions I recommend not going there, except after sending a drone. Have it plant an oxygen and carbon dioxide/monoxide sensor package. Connect the sensor suite to a radio data transmitter. Let it transmit air quality data during a one year cycle. Treat it like another planet.

There can be another hypothesis for the origin of Greek skeletons in Roopkund - they might have belonged to enslaved Greeks. It was the time of the Ottoman Empire & the Turks would often raid Christian villages throughout the Mediterranean for slave trade, which was a major concern for the Western European powers. Enslaved Christian men were forcibly converted to Islam & sold as slaves throughout the Islamic world while women were sold into harems of high-ranking Muslim officials & prostitution. The Barbary pirates traded in enslaved Christians kidnapped from the Western Mediterranean, the Ottoman Empire traded in enslaved Greek, Armenian, Bulgar, Slavic, Ethiopian, Arab & Sub-Saharan African people, the Safavid Empire traded in enslaved Caucasians & the Mughal Empire traded in enslaved Hindus. So it is completely possible that some enslaved Greek sold into India might have ended up into Roopkund while travelling on official business or in an army.
it actually doesn't make any sense for people turning to skeletons in that sort of time as it has a completely high temperature that could bring away bacterial from making a fossil. My opinion is that the lake did not exist even before that long period of time, and they use this place for burring skeletons that are already fossil.
15:46 there are lots of lakes you can see from space: like the Caspian Sea, North American Great Lakes, Lake Victoria in Africa, the drying up Aral sea, and probably many more
I'd say that you are right. The skeletons most possibly were caused for different reasons on different occasions, like for example, some of those victims might have been part of that doomed Hindu pilgrimage that you mentioned, where that king disobeyed that Hindu goddess, where the people were killed by hailstones, some perhaps Greek explorers, some possibly from disease. All mysteries eventually come out, though, and nothing remains in the dark forever, except those which God keeps hidden.

13:40 is it just me or the bone looks a bit sus
15:46 there are lots of lakes you can see from space: like the Caspian Sea, North American Great Lakes, Lake Victoria in Africa, the drying up Aral sea, and probably many more
13:38 that's a pretty phallic shaped "bone" you doodled up there😂😂😂
*sniggers*
I didn't spot that...
I have now 😂😂😂
@@weatherwitchandfelinefamiliars 😁🙄🤣🤣
I like how only half the video was about the mystery lake and the rest was about other lakes♡
I think that the route along the lake sometimes caused someone to fall during such a trek. because it was a well-known route
Sometimes 'I think this guy is bright side and be amazed
This vid was awesome keep it up
You should've done Lake Taal
It's inside a volcano in another body of water and when the volcano (Taal volcano) erupts, the lake boils
The intro and outro are cool but where does she hole lead?
where did you get your little animations?
First now, something like this can start making sense! 😬
Ur amazing Mr. BE AMAZED
we have some golfball sized hail in our freezer! last month, there was a huge storm over where we live, and it randomly started hailing. me and my little brother were hiding under the table with our dog. the hail did a number to our house and even broke through the roof of our patio. now we have many holes in the roof of the patio. we keep the hail so that my father can use them to show to our landord
❤ Nice video ❤
And I'm a big fan, would you mind making a video about the worst school rues ever Thanks
