      Honestly, there is a lot of bad advice in this video. I have an LP60 and it's a great entry table. Sounds good and built like a tank. I also have a LP120, a vintage 80s Marantz and a Rega P6, so I've heard a good range of quality. If you're just getting into vinyl and you've only got $50 bucks, there is nothing wrong with a Crosley or Victrola. (I'm buying one right now to take with me to our family Christmas). Not amazing sound quality, but that's not really the point. They are NOT going to damage your records. If you think you might want to get more serious, then look at something in the $200-$400 range.

      Can agree, I did a fair bit research on budget record players and settled on an audio technica lp60xusb. It's a good starter table not something to upgrade to though for sure. As for crosleys they are not great turn tables but the "destroying/ruining your records" is mostly exaggerated from what I can tell, I've had multiple friends who've had crosleys and their records have been perfectly fine. Vinyl records were designed to withstand 5 to 6 grams of tracking force (the weight placed on the record by the stylus). Also if price is a problem when it comes to tables like the audiotechnica, you can often find used ones online for cheap listed as broken or not working that sometimes just need a new belt. The other week I saw an lp60 going for £20 and the only thing I could see wrong with it was the belt was fitted wrong.

    • @Jack-oc2fc
      @Jack-oc2fc 2 роки тому +6

      1st: positive amazon reviews mean literally nothing. People who don't know anything about vinyl will leave a 5 star review simply because it works. They are ignorant to the fact that it's damaging their records and that it sounds utterly terrible because they've never been exposed to something better. Can't blame them really.
      2nd: If you think the integrated speakers on a cheapo turntable sound "great," then I don't even know where to begin. Frankly my phone speakers sound better.
      So if you're ok with damaging your records and shit sound quality, then your cheapo turntable will serve you well.
      I guess the lesson here is that ignorance is bliss.

    I have to disagree with you on your assessment of the Audio Technica AT-LP60. I buy and sell turntables frequently as a hobby. The one I always keep in my collection is the AT-LP60 (currently it's the 60X). It is in my opinion the highest quality/lowest price for a new turntable. Those Australian prices are outrageous. In 2017 I owned the AT-LP120 as well as the AT-LP60. The 60 had accurate anti skate whereas the 120 did not. I've heard that the 120X fixed this issue. I don't own one so I cannot attest to this.
    The AT60 is the perfect entry level turntable as it is plug-n-play ready, has a built in phono stage and you don't have to fuss with balancing a tone arm. It's a dream. Plus it sounds good. More money does yield much better results. For what it does, it does very well. Consider watching this review of the 60.

      or just get a cheap Technics, cheaper and they are actually decent. I’ve had a terrible experience with a LP60 because the tonearm just simply isn’t good. The anti skate thing doesn’t really matter because it kept on skipping. Now i got a Technics SL-1900 and it skips pretty much never. Not to mention the LP60 has a terrible amount of wow and flutter and isn’t dampened.

    I think most of what you say is correct. I just don't think you should make a blanket statement to avoid Crosley as a brand. It is true that most models you might run into in a Walmart or a quick Amazon search are those suitcase type ones and ones with built in speakers and no counterweight on the tone arm and less than stellar Stylus BUT they also do make audiophile quality turntables as well!

    It’s not about the brand because every brand gets the player from the same Chinese manufacturer it’s really just about what needle they use, Audio techina needles are some of the best for their price and a lot of record players use them from $75-300 some high end ones will use audio techina needles but put their own branding on them and charge $50+ dollars for the same thing. Now Crowley has those case record players and they are fine they wouldn’t chew up your records those players in them have been around for 40 years my grandpa’s old record player he still has and sometimes uses has never chewed up a record and they are all 30+ years old but the case record players have a issue with warped records where it will rub the bottom of the lid and the speakers are basic but sound fine and it’s needle is ok you should replace it with the diamond needle it comes with in a package of extras and it will be way better, no it doesn’t have a adjustable counter weight but it’s already fine audio techina lp60 doesn’t either and it’s the best entry level turntables but just a better needle. I recommend if your just getting in to turntables and don’t want to spend to much on one and want to save money for records look at a used lp60 they go for $30-$100new I bought one for $18 that the rpm was running to fast watched a video fixed it and upgraded as I got more into it. If u got a cruiser as a gift don’t let these bullies make you feel bad for not having a $2000 turntable because all record players play in stereo and can only sound so good and with them having built in speakers it a easy way to get into the hobby and a aux port for headphones and if you got some decent headphones it will sound it’s best. Crosley sells a t150 a great record player with all the shit you bullies say a record player must have and looks great too and Victoria sells the same one with their name on it and a lot of big name sellers you would recommend use that same manufacturer.

    I have been around for many years - buying disc players in the UK since the late 1950s when European
    products covered a wide range that accommodated varied costs and quality, well before the imports
    from Japan which offered real competition to the established names but tended to exist in competition
    with top end HI-FI products. For many, there were domestic all-in units of the "radiogram" design that
    satisfied the average buyer who wanted something that would suit the furnishings as much as for their
    actual sound quality. A bit of research could pay dividends if thinking of buying a disc player in this
    revitalised vinyl age, and bargains are possible if knowing what you seek and what value is acceptable to
    the pocket, not least in the online market offered by the likes of Ebay and others. I have units dating
    from decades ago that still give excellent service and can be serviced by those knowing their job! The
    pleasure can be as much in the chase as in the eventual reward..

      I don't think you can change the cartridge on one of these, but it shouldn't matter. By definition, the needle is scratching the vinyl every play. It's a needle. If you remove dust and grit from the record and the needle with a brush or wet cleaning system, that'll do more to extend the life of their records more than anything. If they really enjoy the hobby, upgrade later to something with an adjustable tonearm.

  • @yeetyeet486
    @yeetyeet486 2 роки тому

    ok, so, its not like they´ll damage your record to an unlistanable state BUT, they´ll definetly leave dust marks and other crackling sounds Carved into your record that, while not listenable at first (cuz of the bad speakers in suitcase recordplayers) you´ll definetly notice once you upgrade and have good speakers, so...
    -they come with a bad stylus so check that or change it
    -because of the 2 times heavier stylus over the recomended measure (around 2 grams, these are 4 or 5) they´ll carve dust into your record more easily, only increased by the lack of dust covers in these, in the 25 minutes your record is playing they´ll be a LOOOT of dust landing on it so yeah
    -just why? save up for a better turtable, even if its used, you deserve to listen those amazing records you bought in good quality, but last word of advice if you already own one of those Crossley or Victrola, put it on a stable surface, dont put it in bed or a couch, and try to use other speaker than the ones included on it

    To bad that newbies start with rubbish record players, when there are plenty of cheap good 80's and 90', Technics, Pioneer, BSR, Dual, Lenco, Omnitronic, Reloop, Players... But hey, with vinyl every start is good.. But only if you upgrade, and if you have continuity, and if you are enthusiastic.. If you stop at Crosley and other cheap cardbord-ish sounding, record player, i will stay with the idea that vinyl is just fun..and the sound is pretty bad. Important avoid record players with Bluetooth!!

    I get that Bush would have a bad quality sound, but does it damage records or not?

    • @panjin79
      @panjin79 2 роки тому

      What model Bush? The spec to pay attention to is the tracking force. Think of it as the weight applied to the needle to keep it in the groove. Records are designed to withstand up to 7 or 8 grams, so you shouldn't worry, but the more downward force applied to the needle dragging through the groove the more wear you'll do each play. A suitcase player with a ceramic cartridge usually tracks between 4-6 grams. Entry level tables with adjustable arms punch in around 1.5 to 4 grams. I think what's more important to avoid damage is always keep your records clean, your stylus clean, and invest in some good inner sleeves to replace the typical cheap paper ones. Do this and you'll get plenty of spins out of your records.
