I always warn people about social engineering. When I began studying CyberSec in college and realized how much I actually already did naturally in order to subtly "social engineer" situations around me I began sharing that information with friends and family to sort of help them be more aware. Thank you for talking about this it is a much-overlooked skill set and security breach.
I used to work at a company and our IT were talking about being "Ping Flooded" and that it could be a "Staged Flood" Now I am 40... Ish.. And I knew nothing about Hacking but I listened in. And while everything they said was Greek to me. It peaked my interest. So now I have you to thank for this new skill set I am learning. Nothing evil. Just want to learn.
This is crazy, I always wondered about your faith. Once I saw the Ravi Zacharias thing I was hype! I am a cyber student studying for my Net + but you can catch me reading up on apologetics and philosophy any day with lots of Ravi! Keep doing your thing man, Awesome video and very helpful.

For "shoulder surfing" using noise cancelling headphones that can change to an "ambient" noise mode would make it a lot easier and amplify conversations around you. Not that I'd know how that worked or anything.
I used to do a lot of hacking back in the dial-up and Windows XP ages. Things has changed a lot over the years and I want to get back in the hacking wagon but it has not been easy, I hope to one day get certified and find a job working as infrastructure security, right now I am a Tier 1 IT Support agent and have been working as such for over 6 years. Love the channel Chuck, keep up the good work.
How to counter these? Keep your social media profiles private Invest in a paper shredder to destroy sensitive documents that are to be disposed Invest in a screen filter to deter shoulder surfers and CCTV cameras from seeing your screen contents.
Yeah not sure if anyone knows about those Anti-Peep protectors for your phones. You can get them for your PC/Laptops too. But it's essentially a screen protector (they also come in tempered glass) that has been tinted in such a way that only allows someone directly in front of the device to see what's on the screen. If you look at it from an angle it will look black.
Just so you know if you shred your documents and throw them away, once in the trash at least here in the US it's considered public domain where someone could go through it and put your shredded documents back together.
@@Tiredofkiling You know how long that would take? Unless someone knows for a fact there is some valuable info I doubt they will put in the hours or even days it might take to sort through and piece together a bin full of shredded papers.

Social Engineering is one of the most greatest and simplest techniques in hacking. But going off grid or isolating yourself seems like a plan but there's a downside... You still need to talk to people for supplies or business transactions etc so protecting yourself has to be a daily habit of where you are self conscious of your own actions.
It depends, Phishing is not directly considered hacking. Not in my branch at least. If your phishing email contains exploits like tcp shells then yes it is hacking. But a regular phishing email that only gathers OSINT or internal information isn't hacking.
The problem with the "Paris" photo is not the location... Careful with people who never gave their consent to be online, particularly if they are underage... A little blur there would solve it. And everyone would understand that it was done while editing. I love your videos and your style. Let me use the opportunity to say that! THANK YOU!
I work in electronic recycling. I didn't even know it was a thing until I started working there. The rules around our procedures in wiping hard drives is extremely strict and absolutely no unmarked material is allowed to leave a very small area within the building with the consequence of instant termination.
5:20 My dad would lock his bin closed with a chain to stop dumpster diving, he didn't want people seeing what kind of newspapers and magazines he read (usually financial and business stuff about potential investments). He was a small business owner and shredded all of his documents, but in fairness a lot of it was client documents too, so there would have been hell to pay if someone else's information was publicly released.
Thank you! I'm going to be following your sec+ to try and supplement my other training. I have to admit, my earliest experience was with netbus and sub7. When I retired from naval intelligence, I had an active Top Secret SCI clearance with my dB certs listed on LinkedIn. The volume of Eastern European, Russian, & Asian contacts (by ip ) convinced me to close down my account. They all wanted to ”interview” me. Even shredded paper can be put together by any decent forensics lab, so what you want to do is first let the paper sit in water and then let it dry so the ink is all messed up, then shred it, then rip the shredded strips up
I work at a Starbucks while im studying my security+ and i couldn't count the number of times people talk work while waiting to order and after ordering. Shredder, privacy security screens on phones and laptops, password managers and SSO to avoid typing passwords, 2FA with physical keys - some of the measures I take. I don’t talk shop in public. I keep my “real” SM profiles private and I purposely put incorrect info about myself online. I receive mail at places other than where I really live. I keep a keybase profile to let people know if it’s really me they’re talking to. I do a lot but it’s fun
10:00 this happened to me one time by accident. I was sitting in a quiet, bit more expensive restaurant, nearly alone. Comes a group of 3 girls eating right next to me, and spilling ALL the facts about a company i know. That the CEO will leave soon, how much yearly revenue comes in, how much customers they have…. I never needed that data in the first-place, but damn this would be worth something on the market if i would care and recorded it
I did learn a lot. I learned she was a setup from the get. Her fb was made a couple days after we met and before we hung out for the first time. And much much about her was symbolic.
It's funny, since i've taken over the admin role at my company which never had an admin before i couldn't believe what kind of information i found on our work PC's. Passport info, banking statements, tax info, scanned driver's licenses, credit reports, personal contact info of real high profile clients we deal with. I found 2 spybots both dormant that have been on our main workstation since 2016, malicious scripts saved in plain text format hidden in windows files. When i presented the 300-page report to the owner his heart sunk thinking about all the non-disclosure agreements he signed and how his company was hanging on a thread and he had no idea
Don't forget reading their RFID badges, with a simple setup in a laptop bag or a woman's purse. Proximity recon has its benefits. Sniffing local blue tooth & Wifi, with M.I.T.M. Attack reaps some hidden treasure as well.
password managers help a great deal with this, education for what to look for or keep an eye out for regarding phishing emails. I worked for a company that did yearly testing to make sure everyone was refreshed on what to look for, which worked for the most part.
Lol I remember in high school where anime accounts in facebook were a thing. I tried finding their real name through “hacking” without tools and lol their reactions were the best
reminds me when a former rockstar dev posted on his linkedin page he worked on GTA 5 for PC, problem was at the time, rockstar hadn't announced that yet. Soyou can always find information just about anywhere
I shred my documents, then pour cooking grease, old cat food, anything gross on it too. My mentality is if I make it a pain in the butt, they'll try someone else and leave me alone. Similar to how scammers intentionally make their scams obvious so they can find the easy targets while also boosting the ego of the "I'll never fall for a scam" person to the point they get complacent.

Social Engineering is one of the most greatest and simplest techniques in hacking.
But going off grid or isolating yourself seems like a plan but there's a downside...
You still need to talk to people for supplies or business transactions etc so protecting
yourself has to be a daily habit of where you are self conscious of your own actions.
you also forgot pishing and whaling also tools everyone has anyone can send a bs email that looks legit.
I was able to fix my through the help of justi_hack on IG
It depends, Phishing is not directly considered hacking. Not in my branch at least. If your phishing email contains exploits like tcp shells then yes it is hacking. But a regular phishing email that only gathers OSINT or internal information isn't hacking.

The problem with the "Paris" photo is not the location... Careful with people who never gave their consent to be online, particularly if they are underage... A little blur there would solve it. And everyone would understand that it was done while editing. I love your videos and your style. Let me use the opportunity to say that! THANK YOU!

Dear Chuck, would you give me some tips to have in mind to migrate a Data Center ( another location) ...
Its 3 am in morning. Me trying to be hacker watching youtube😂😂😂

how did it go , Im now about to start my hacking journey,,,,

Interesting. I worked in business for 25 years and no supervisor EVER talked about your suggestions to prevent shoulder surfing, etc.!
IT 101:
Don’t work or go to Starbucks apparently.
No don't Tell everyone on the entire World you are going to work or Starbucks.
I work in electronic recycling. I didn't even know it was a thing until I started working there. The rules around our procedures in wiping hard drives is extremely strict and absolutely no unmarked material is allowed to leave a very small area within the building with the consequence of instant termination.
*Fact* : growing a beard is harder than hacking.

This is a bit offtopic.......
But, How would Chuck look like without his beard?
Thank you! I'm going to be following your sec+ to try and supplement my other training. I have to admit, my earliest experience was with netbus and sub7. I would probably no better than a script kiddie fumbling around, however it got me into wanting to blue team it up. Nowadays I'm interested in Purple or DIFR. Thank you for doing these.
When I retired from naval intelligence, I had an active Top Secret SCI clearance with my dB certs listed on LinkedIn. The volume of Eastern European, Russian, & Asian contacts (by ip ) convinced me to close down my account. They all wanted to ”interview” me. I wasn”t about to share a cell with the walker family, so I delete LinkedIn profile. There are always ways to find work in signint without that kind of exposure.
I think I am the only Arab and child person interested in your video’s 😅😂. I’m 13

There should be a community for Christians in I.T. One of the main reasons why I love Chuck and Jeremy ( I believe he is also a believer as well). Thank you for providing us with this material. I am in help desk right now going through the S+
Love your videos, Ive used Linux for 5 years and learnt more in 4 days watching your videos than all that time being 'self taught'. This topic is cool and very relevant, are you aware of any sites for international searches, for those of us not in the USA? Cheers.
Hey, I am from India...... you gave me so precious information about hacking, i am new on it ... My full support with you Bro.

Thank you, great information. I get so excited talking and learning about IT Networks. I am reminded through your video content, to be mindful where you are conversing, and what's being revealed. Excellent video.
Great summary of these social engineering issues! So many things that people just don't think about in the everyday activities of our technological world. And the issue of what people absent mindedly talk about in coffee shops...? Whew baby... that is a big problem! :) Recently found your channel. Great stuff! Much appreciated!
Hell even before covid-19 it would kill me to see someone leave their laptop open while they run to the bathroom. Do you knowhow easy it is for someone to pop a flash drive in while they are in the bathroom and down load a back door on their laptop while in the bathroom. Great video chuck love the content and free education as well! Your biggest fan, DC LEE
Quality video as always Chuck! Your presentation and approach are gold! Cheers
You are simply AWESOME MY BROTHER! MASTER, I LOVE ALL YOUR VIDEOS! In this one the best part was when your beautiful daughter appeared in the video! You are blessed! GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR BEAUTIFUL FAMILY! CONTINUE TEACHING US! That is your ministry!!! Love tou master!
Is there a plan to talk about analyzing email headers in a future Security+ videos? I understand how to find the header but I never really know what I'm looking for. You do a good job of explaining things so I'm hoping your explanation will make more sense than the research I've done. Thanks for making awesome videos. It's really helped me get excited about learning and furthering my career again.
Chuck... i wanna say thank you for helping us that much in IT ❤

I never needed that data in the first-place, but damn this would be worth something on the market if i would care and recorded it
Looking foreword to a career in networking. Very much self taught with a lot of help from you and your videos. Thanks for sharing your passion!
i love you very much ,I passed my first test for admission thanks to you
I WAS LITERALLY GOOGLING THIS THEN YOU UPLOADED SOMETHING ABOUT SOCIAL ENGINEERING U ARS A MIND READER
Thank you I really enjoy this video and boosted my morale about IT in general
honestly, this video is very nice.
This is the first time to me to know the goal of hacking and how hackers think.
I'm new to cyber security and looking for a free comptia security+ 601 course. Thanks so much. I enjoy watching your videos.
Good lesson network chuck sar. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
This video is awesome as it indicates the un-assumed hacking skills everyone posses.
password managers help a great deal with this, education for what to look for or keep an eye out for regarding phishing emails. I worked for a company that did yearly testing to make sure everyone was refreshed on what to look for, which worked for the most part.
It's actually much better to flood misinformation than no information.
Another good one, is when you sign up for store reward programs at checkout. You openly broadcast your phone number and email!
I m from india ,,and i like your videos so much sir ..everyday i watch your video sir and i always like it every time thank you 🙏🙏
I’m on a mission to become security+ Certified 2021 goals!
Best Channel 😬im starting cybersecurity and i find your channel very helpful haha
Such an amazing video 😍😍
It's Nick-software he did everything very perfect for me
Lol I remember in high school where anime accounts in facebook were a thing. I tried finding their real name through “hacking” without tools and lol their reactions were the best
social engineering at its peek lmao, sounds fun
reminds me when a former rockstar dev posted on his linkedin page he worked on GTA 5 for PC, problem was at the time, rockstar hadn't announced that yet. Soyou can always find information just about anywhere
Thank you for all this stuff, in your videos.
I love your Chanel, so keep it up! 💪🏽
Tasty greetings from Germany.
Thanks for the awesome content Chuck! What is that running in your monitor at back? Looks really cool.
I like learning network chuck sar. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
my role model
I definitely have been hacked and interested in countering them in the future. I am currently study for sec+
I'm actually very good at social engineering that sometimes I use it without me knowing.
