Having owned an Aprilia Pegaso Strada - a 650cc single supermoto/naked bike with around 50hp, this review really gives flashback memories of that bike - the only difference being that wheelies seem easier to do at higher speeds, which should be natural given the extra power increase. However, that Aprilia was a gem of a bike despite its relatively low hp number.. It had soft but very stable suspension that could literally soak up anything you threw it at and stay composed, it is incredibly nimble and you can adjust it a billion times mid-corner without ever sacrificing speed or stability. And Aprilia, as mad as they are, decided that this low-spec bike would be fitted from factory with lightweight aluminium wheels (design derived from the RSV1000R but downsized), and then add Brembo brakes as standards just for good measure. That bike man, in the city and on twisty roads, it would eat up anything. Oh yea, it also had twin underseat exhaust.. well, just because they could. I've ridden plenty of more powerful bikes and a lot of the 650 twin class bikes, but none of them feel as poised or as playful as that "little" Aprilia. A well balanced chassis with good suspension and a lively single cylinder engine can result in some really remarkable motorcycles!
So much better than every other review on youtube - they're either 3 minutes long, or 20 minutes of boring drivel. Thank you!

I enjoy riding this on the street more than my V4R. It’s fairly comfortable for shorter rides, has just enough power to get in trouble and handles any road conditions you can throw at it.
This is definitely my dream bike atm!

these bikes are such great packages, its a shame we dont see them more often on the streets. I guess most people just look at the power output and decide its a beginner bike like the MT07 or Z650.
yeah, they're great packages if you already own 3 other competent motorcycles. otherwise, they are extremely limited in use and scope.
what is a shame is that people like you don't buy any motorcycles ever....yet you have all these opinions of them.

I think biker Statham would be going through 5 rear tyres for every front on this bike. It's a motor unicycle with front stabiliser!

I never found a slightly taller front wheel an issue, apart from tyre choice. My money would go on an mt07 complete with Akra though, mainly for that noise.

Absolutely. That same amazing engine on better suspension with great tires. All the good backroads where there is, shall we say, a lack of law enforcement tends to be in poor condition. That long travel suspension of the 701 SM eats it right up. I was faster on my 701 SM than my Ducati 1098 street fighter.

The sumo is better for the conditions I’m using it on than the svartpilen. It’s all fully adjustable WP of course.

Test road one at it is a fun and easy bike to get on with. QS is a bit clunchy and turning cycle not the tightest but just dont like the looks..

Great vid, as per usual. Not to be pedantic, but the “pilen “ part, in Swedish, refers to an arrow, not a cross. As in white arrow/black arrow.
It's dreamy. Murdered out (all black)! Contemporary lines. I love the idea of a 700cc bike under 350 lbs. That's a 150-200 lbs less than many in that displacement class! Thanks for a great and honest review. I'm presently shopping and will test ride based on this review.

Its more than "just styling" that differs from KTM, they changed av few things Ive heard, such as the rake angle for the fork, that alone should make it differ a lot. Not?

Question for the Baron. Have you changed the video codecs that you're using to render your videos with because they're intermittently stuttering. I've got fibre optic broadband before anyone blames my bandwidth. Had a problem with this since the first episode of the budget bike alpine.
Everything is fine for me and that's watching via hot spotting to my phone's data @1080 60fps, on a old galaxy tab s2
Could be a hardware issue. You use a PC or phone? If it's a PC, make sure it's not running shit in the background, clean it up with a bit of defragging and such and make sure the inside is physically clean too. Dust and shite covering the fans etc can really tank performance.
I have no issues on any other videos. It's when looking on Android phone, PC or TV. No dramas. As I said, it's intermittent. Every 20 seconds or so there's a slight glitch in playback.

Rake is steeper, wheelbase is shorter. Geometry changes over the Duke 690 (not just the front wheel diameter :)

That elongated piece of fairing on the right rear looks very odd. I suppose that's where your starting number is supposed to go, but I find it weird on a road legal bike. Hope they offer an alternative piece in the powerparts catalogue. Other than that, I've really been waiting for this since I was well impressed with the 401 svart last year already. Keep it up Jason! That clock/speedi looks bad In Light something you get in a toy bag from MacD’s , probably the same format from the duke 125 years ago. Sounds like a Panigalli with a 125 engine in it. Looks a nice ride on the open roads @10.30 though. Nice review as always

44teeth i just realised its only like 4 years ago i was watching baron von gumble and you guys had yet to team up and become this . we need this so much as europeans with the euro mentality . only downside is watching american channels has become painfull as its near unwatchable

How did you find the shifter? I’ve got a Vitpilen 701 and find that I have to shift with extreme prejudice or else I’ll meet loads of false neutrals.
