I'm going to be honest.
I did not expect to be as entertained as I was. I got serious, "We're not a punk and we're not going to back down from you" from both lines. Both owned their material. Both executed well. Both played with conviction. I loved it. This is going to be hard and I feel like it's going to be a close one:
TSU
Snares- 9.0 I really can't say anything bad about them. I just have to be wowed beyond belief to give a 10. They did everything right. My only dissatisfaction is the ring from how they tune but that's personal preference.
Tenors- 9.5 I was surprised. Beyond belief. I didn't expect to see this power and finesse from their tenors.
Quads- 9 again....I didn't expect them to hang with MSD. I can tell they put in some serious work this year.
Basses- 9.5 Power. Conviction. Tempo. Couldn't ask for more
Cymbals- 9.0 Good. Uniform. Played parts and kept tempo well.
Balance- 9.0
Difficulty of Material- 9.0
Overall-64/70
Man....was I ever surprised. TSU has honestly been what I considered a "bland" line over the years. I was expecting the same but something happened this year and I like it. I felt the aggression.
PVAMU
Snares- 9.5 Same aggression but just a bit more difficulty and crispness.
Tenors- 9.0 I was shocked that TSU outplayed them. And PVAMU, dare I say, looked tired at the end.
Quads- 9.5 Pretty good.
Basses- 9.0 Again....I'm having to double take because I've always known PVAMU to have serious basses....and yet I'm giving the nod to TSU
CYMBALS- 9.0 Not much seen on their end.
Balance- 8.5 (Snares were overshadowed sometimes)
Difficulty of material- 9.5
Overall score- 64/70
Final Verdict:
TSU- 64/70. PVAMU-64/70
TIE!!!!! And this was exactly how I felt at the end. Both lines brought it and if I paid to go to the game I'd feel leaving satisfied. This was a very enjoyable watch! I don't know what else to say.
