I've been there exactly 1 year ago, and it was just amazing. The feeling you have by walking through the toriis is simply unexplainable; it's like a mixture of joy, excitement and peaceful sensations. Best place in the world to me.

i really like how your videos are "quiet", rather than adding music and endless commentary, gives me more of a "being there" type of feel...

I like that you didn't add back ground music for this video. Hearing the visitors' chatter and them mingling about and exploring the sites and the ringing of the bells really makes you feel like you're there with you and let's you feel the setting of the video as much as is possible through a video.

Great video. I remember my first time there, it took forever to take a decent photo with so many people walking around, so I imagine you had to be pretty patient.

The shrines I visited in Kobe and Kumamoto were moving experiences for me. This one looks like it would be a great way to spend most of a day. As for future videos, I'd like to see something about Hokkaido. I know you've mentioned in the past that you've never been there but you'd like to see it. It looks a lot from what I've seen like B.C. and Washington. Thanks for posting all these videos, it makes me want to return to Japan!

You have no idea how fascinating it was to listen to that middle bit of footage with no commentary, and no music. The sounds of the place were so interesting to focus on, because they're so vastly different from any sounds I hear on a daily basis in my area (Toronto!).

Fushimi Inari Shrine was beautiful when I visited! Probably my favorite place I got to see. I'm so glad you went to the top because it seemed like most people only saw the torii gates and missed out on all the beautiful stone shrines further up. The view of Kyoto that was almost at the top was amazing as well. Awesome video!

hi sharla, sorry for the random comment on a 7 yr old video lol but i'm just rewatching ur old vlogs while working on my application for the JET program and it's reminding me of why i want to go back to japan so much. i've watched your videos since middle school & i remember watching you show off different places in japan & talk abt the culture & history & learning the language. i got selected to go on a short homestay with a few others from my japanese class several yrs ago & watched your videos in anticipation for my trip!! i loved it so much while i was there! and vowed to come back one day. i continued studying japanese & i'm 25 now finally trying to achieve my dream of living in japan, even for a short while. sry for the ramble just wanted to say!!! ty for inspiring me.

We were there about 4 days before you posted this! What an amazing place. We had no idea how big the temple grounds were, and had already walked there from Gion after stopping at several other places along the way. We didn't make it all the way to the top. Someday we will go back and hike to the summit. 😔

Hi from Canada 🇨🇦 I was lucky enough to go to Japan just last April and it was amazing! During my trip I did go to Kyoto and was able to make a stop at the Inari shrine but it was at night which honestly was the best time to go. It had a nice look to it since it just stopped raining after we started going up the path. My group and I did end up taking all the paths but ended up in the village part at the bottom? It was weird and confusing but totally fun! I would like to thank you for your videos and I hope you get a chance to read this. Your family is awesome and I hope to visit Japan again next year. Please take care. :)

Easily my favourite shrine and one of my most favourite places in all of Japan.
I love going at dawn when there is nobody about. Gives you the chance to explore the shrine and get amazing photos without large crowds around.
And also exploring the shrine after dark because the grounds give off a eerie vibe.

I know it's far, but I would LOVE to see video of Gujo Hachiman! Near there in Seki City is Monet's Pond which is beyond beautiful and would make for some breathtaking shots as well! I've never been to these sites, much less Japan at all yet, but I stumbled across a video of Gujo Hachiman and fell in love with the place and surrounding area~ Whenever UA-camrs in Japan I follow ask about "Where to visit next" I try and get them to go so I can view the area more, haha! Thank you so much for your content and uploads! I love your sweet and bright channel

People who will go up at night, be sure to bring a torch(flashlight) as it isn't very well lit up. It is very nice to go at night though as you will also get a beautiful night view of the city!
Also, haven't been up there since the first time I came to Japan in 2010. Would love to go back with the extra knowledge I've gained over the years and see if I can "see more" then just gates.

In the movie Memoirs of a Geisha the main charcter chiyo/sayuri runs down a path with tori gates similar to what you saw Sharla. I wonder if that scene was filmed in the same area or at another shrine! Really cool to see though! Definently putting Inari Shrine on a must see list for when I can get to visit Japan! Thanks for sharing!

Britty Botts when I was in Japan our tour guide explained to us when we went to a samurai cemetery that the story goes there was a family that had lost their baby so they put the little bibs on the Buddha statues and prayed for their baby and over time it became tradition to put the bibs on Buddha statues. Can't remember the full story as this was a while ago but I think it's a really sweet gesture.

We didnt see anyone else there. Just ppl at some kind of memorial gathering deep down or something. After another hour of walking through the forest alongside some tiny river, we found ourselfs back at the main Tori Gate Way of Inari and hiked up the rest of the top! We even did see some smaller crabs on the not-main-route. And...MANY Spiders, haha. it was a nice experience tho :3
