Same rule applies to electricity. Check it with a meter yourself, never trust them.

If someone gets offended that you cleared a weapon yourself after they told you it’s empty, that’s the person you should trust the least to know if it’s empty.
I find it offensive if they don’t clear it even if they just watched me clear it as I hand it to them.
Yep. Had a guy get kinda miffed at me once during a sale. He cleared it, showed me the chamber, then handed it to me. I inspected the chamber again and he got annoyed.
I paid him and didn't look back.
Dude was a CCW holder too...

If someone cleared a gun in front of you, taking mag out and pulling the handle, and then hand it to you for only you to do the same, is the same as someone opening the door for you, you close the door and open it yourself.
@@SMGJohn still check it. It's not about offending the other person, it's about practicing always clearing it yourself so no accidents happen. All you need is for someone to check it and think it's clear then you go to dry fire and end up having a live round in the chamber. Safety first.
Exactly!!! 💯
Rule #1. Treat every firearm as if it’s loaded.
Rule #2. Life is good
Rule number one is getting tatted on my chest
ONLY IF YOU YOU FOLLOW RULE #1
Rule three: Lock the slide back before handing a handgun to a buddy.

I agree sir.
Right on brother...100% true. If someone is insulted...they r the rookie!
He's absolutely correct. Check it both, physically and visually. Every single time regardless.
He had to fight himself from racking the slide to verify it was clear after he told us it was clear! That’s the mark of a true professional and an experienced and educated shooter!
You see him put his hand on the slide too. I'm glad someone else noticed that
Right !
Rule number #2 never point a gun at another person even when it's completely empty
Rule #3, trigger discipline. Only put your finger on the trigger when your ready to fire.
💯
@McMayo no universal rule about mechanical safeties, as most semi autos don't event have them.
4th rule is about confirming your target and backstop.
Um, that’s rule #1.
The first three rules of firearm safety are "the gun is always loaded".
Amen my brother. I made that mistake 40 years ago as an armorer in the military. I trusted a friend. Fortunately, it was a blank. Powder burns & 40 years of tinnitus as a reminder. Never since and never again

@WeThe People what's wrong with what Terry said tho?
@WeThe People found the guy who gets offended by people checking a firearm around him.
Those types of people would shoot you just for that
As someone who isn't even a gun person...how could 152 people dislike this?
This is literally nothing more than good, practical advice. If you didn't know how to be safe, it's extremely important.

I'm sure there are more than a few idiots who would be offended and say, "what you don't trust me, I cleared it myself yesterday" That's the person that should have their guns confiscated.
If you watch them clear it and they hand it to you, you clear it yourself.
“Mark of an amateur” love that so true brother! Thanks for preaching proper firearm safety!
Anybody who can’t follow the most immediate rule of gun safety, probably shouldn’t have a gun…

Thank you for spreading firearm safety!
We need more people that are trained in firearm safety and more concealed firearm permit holders.
So are we not gonna talk about how buttery smooth the slide is
The Alec Baldwin situation is a prime example.
Except he did that on purpose, even had live rounds in his belt.
Beat me to my own comment
Prime example indeed, I have only ever held and shot a .223 air rifle (yeah, I know, not exactly impressive) and even then, I would never point it at anything I do not intend on shooting, I only ever pointed it at the "target" we had in our yard (a piece of plywood with paper taped to it)

Even if it isn't loaded, always treat your gun like it is.

@75greenfish62 My dad would get mad at me even with toy guns as a kid. If I pointed the gun at my little brother, he would freak. Even when we clean our guns together, he gets mad when the barrel points in his direction.
If someone gets offended because they handed a gun to you and YOU checked it and didn't take their word for it: stay away from that person.
I've had multiple gun store employees get kinda annoyed at me for clearing a gun they just cleared right in front of me.
One gun shop in particular it happened several times with several different employees. I stopped shopping there. I don't care about "supporting local businesses" if your local business is chock full of clowns.
@@nasonguy yeah that's pretty bizarre. I clear everything my local gun shops hand me because it's just second nature at this point. @@DarwinAllen Worst part is, if they would just had it to me with the slide/chamber open still, I’d just have a look inside. But nnnooooo, the would clear it then drop the slide or chamber it then hand it to me. Like yeah, I am now 100% going to clear it again.
Anyways, been a decade since I went back there.
@@nasonguy that's how I hand people my pistol when they ask to check it out. I drop my mag, rack the slide and let the loaded round fall into my hand and leave it locked open and hand it to them that way. I do this even at gun shops. I was just there Thursday and bought a couple of the Smith M&P 10mm's. Even when the guy cleared the pistols and handed them to me, I STILL cleared them myself and proceeded to carry on checking them out. He never said anything bad or skipped a beat in his conversation. I actually had a dealer get annoyed with me for clearing a firearm he handed me. " I wouldn't hand you a loaded gun" I smiled , handed to gun back and walked out the store
I would’ve replied “I don’t know you, maybe you’re the guy who likes handing loaded weapons to people to see if they’re competent with firearm safety”

Yep gun safety is a hell of a thing which is good
People take it too literally is the problem and it's like.... should a person this mentally struggling be handling firearms? I guess I prefer folks to err on the side of caution, but the idea is you hammer that saying into kids heads, and as they grow older it becomes "always treat it as if it's loaded until you personally verify that it's not"
How is being cautious a problem?
I make sure i know the status of my gun like everyone should. thats lazy if you ask me. ppl say always treat guns like they are loaded which is true but you also gotta make sure you know if your gun is loaded or not…guns dont load themselves.
I like how he goes to clear it almost out of instinct
Best advice. It’s your responsibility to check if the firearm is clear. Always, always check the firearm before anything.
Amen, brother. I always say "It's not that I don't trust you, this is basic weapons safety and handling procedures." I'll definitely need to quote you as well.
And add, "If I do it every time, it reinforces the habit and makes it automatic."
I just always tell everyone “it’s loaded” even though I know it’s not.
That way they keep their damn hands off of the trigger.
Best way to do it lmao
Then one day after you tell them it's loaded they point it at you and pull the trigger....................awkward

I used to watch this guy's years ago. Glad he is still around.
All true. Even when it is clear, treat it like it’s loaded.
Right on. The unloaded firearm speaks the loudest.
That was the rule in the German army, even if a general handed you a gun and reported it’s status (which we were supposed to), you treat it as loaded, you always point it safely and you clear the fire arm and visually and tactile check it. As stated, it doesn’t matter what the person tells you, it’s assumed unsafe until proven otherwise.

If someone gets offended because of a safety issue, replace the friend.

My dad ALWAYS told me this. Luv ya Hickok 45! You brought back lots of wonderful memories...
You can literally clear it right in front of me and I'm still gonna check it. Kinda becomes instinctive, but I also cant pick up a febreeze bottle without keeping my finger straight.
It’s all about finger discipline 😂
Neither can I, since I don't want to accidentally spray something worse somewhere the cat likes sleeping. It happens to translate well to gun safety.
Exactly. Always treat fire arm as if it’s loaded and double check before u play with it. No one should take any risk with arms.
the only gun guy I follow on youtube. Hickock 45, you are the best.
First time I went shooting with my father in law he handed me a loaded colt and told me it was empty. Just a honest mistake, but accidents start just like this story did. Always check 👍
The best rule.. always checked your fire arm. Security first!
Hickok45 is right ! Always check the firearm.
Safety First !
Just wanted to say that I very much appreciate your videos. They’re not just informative and helpful, I really enjoy them. Life IS good Mr. Hickock.
He fought clearing that firearm so hard st the beginning. He was like it's clear, and then went to clear it
Yes a million times. And don’t point it in anyone’s direction nor put your finger on the trigger unless you mean to shoot. Best advice ever. Thank you H45
Thank you sir!
Complacency is as lethal as a gun preconceived unloaded!
Facts. Treat every weapon as if it is loaded... And i dont care how many times i watch you clear it.. or if the slide is back... Mussel should never be pointed towards anything you don't intend to kill
Prioritizing the safety of yourself and others should never be considered an insult, period. Thank you for making this video, I feel like many people need to hear this.
Best video ever.
The first things in Marine Corps bootcamp weapons training is to clear the weapon never ever assume a weapon is unloaded.
"Trust the Gordon's fisherman" ... lol 😂
The guy that used to live next door to me was a gun safety instructor, and he made sure the guns were unloaded before he let me look at them, but he was always glad to see me double check him on it.
I wish i had a uncle like you.
1000% simple knowledge
I didn't shoot for over 30 yrs and went to one of those rent a range trips. I wanted to try an M9 Beretta. Never shot it before, but as soon as the range master unlocked the storage case, I went through the checks. The first thing after visually confirming the safety was on, was depress the mag release (no mag) both unloadedin the case. Locked the slide back to confirm a clear chamber. Making sure it was pointed down range at all times. It was like muscle memory how the safety training came back. Thank you, US Army Senior Drill Sergeant Ross and Drill Sergeant Terry, for always driving home weapon safety.
Here is another good rule, especially for those new to guns and owning one:
Never hand a loaded weapon to another person. Unload and clear the chamber of that weapon before handing it to them. I don't care if you are at the gun range, or handing it to a family member or best friend. ALWAYS UNLOAD YOUR FIREARM BEFORE HANDING IT TO SOMEONE ELSE. God bless you all and have a great day!
What are safeties for anyway am I right?
What if you’re letting someone shoot for their very first time and you just want them to send a single chunk of lead down range without stressing about anything else?
@@christopherevasin4142 then you are not stressing the MOST important thing: safety first. What will you tell the judge? 'My best friend just wanted to shoot one downrange, how did I know he was going to shoot his foot off?'
@@Drownedinblood right? Kinda dumb for the OP to say that when guns literally have safeties on them just flip the safety on and hand them the gun
I worked at a gun store for awhile, we had a trainer that worked with us and taught the ccp classes. One day after the Range time I had a guy bring me his rental back. I checked it, had one in the chamber. Needless to say the firearms instructor didn’t work there after that. All guns are loaded, never clean your gun with a magazine around. Check every bore, always.

All I can say is Thank You for all you do and teach, You are a HUGE help to beginners and anyone else that wants to learn about Firearms
I love in one of Jeff Cooper's video seminars, when he's holstered his 1911. Every time he pulls it back out, he racks the slide "Clear? Ok" then continues on with what he was going to demonstrate
Guns not clear by racking you have to look into the chamber and verify there’s no bullet in the gun.
Yes, that's the "clear? Ok" part
@@TB_in_the_coffee Simply racking the gun and no bullet ejecting does not mean the gun is clear. You have to actually look into the chamber with your eyes before you can say the gun is clear. I’m just making a clarification because it’s a common misnomer.

Back in my facebook days, I'd constantly get into arguments with people about the relevance of assuming a firearm is always loaded. At the end of the day, you don't have to do anything. There's no law against being stupid. But there are laws against reckless endangerment and manslaughter.
Try to dry fire while assuming somethings always loaded. Lol. The more experience the more you'll understand at some points its necessary, after you check multiple times visually and physically.
They say there's like six rules to firearms safety but this is really the most important one in my book. Two seconds of checking beats facing the consequences of a negligent discharge or worse
My dad taught me the same thing. My pops wasn't a huge gun guy, but from when I was really little, he told me the same exact thing and to expect the gun to be loaded even if you think it's not. Because of him teaching me, I knew right where his 357 was and I never took it and pointed it at my friends or accidentally firing it.
Thank you so much for all you do. Entertaining and instructive. God bless you and your family.
Hikok45 is exactly who gun advocates need as a positive spokesperson that cleans up the image of what true gun ownership should be.
All these dense limited minded anti gun people need to realize that a the majority of gun owners are trained, educated about law, abide by the law, and most importantly, always practice safety.
