Can always count on Jeff to give me more anxiety as a dev.
This😂
😂
bruvvso true
From past year I developed some sort of immunity on this type of thing thanks to him
It has been the theme of the channel for the last 18 months.
I can't decide if I'm excited, worried, frightened, disgusted or absolutely terrified of what's to come. And these videos aren't helping either, please make more.
maybe all of the above. you never really know with fireship
Ya stop tryna pick one 😂
Modern times call for modern verbs.
I propose: DATWEF
Datwefing: experiencing being simultaneously Disgusted, Absolutely Terrified, Worried, Excited, and Frightened.
Used in sentences:
- The company said there's gonna be big news for devs tomorrow. I'm so datwefed right now!
- I told my husband we needed to speak. Ya should have seen the datwef on his face.
- Behold and datwef! My latest weapon!
we should stop this game right now or we will wake up in our creatied simulation soon xdddd
What I like even less is that only one of your options has a mostly positive connotation
This editing style is magnificent. The content-to-meme balance should be studied for years to come ❤
I wonder if he does his own editing or its sourced out, its so good!
I think he does his own editing. It seems intimately tied to how he does voiceover: one idea at a time. Since he doesn't script his videos, I imagine he says lines, thinks of what visuals could go with them, says more lines, and so on.@@farshaxan

I have been optimistic my whole life, always thinking it will all turn out well. I am a mechanical engineer and I had many hopes and dreams. I never believed AI was more than just "neat data fitting" which had some cool applications in computer vision and data analysis but that the impact will be slow and fringe. I "laughed" at all AI doomists and made jokes about Skynet. Not ever would I have seen that the "robot revolution" comes in a much more insidious form than skynet: it slowly sucks out all the meaning many of us had in life. Many of us are here to create and explor, if this gets taken away by machines that can do it better, we lose our sense of direction completely and there is not much left. Since I realized the full power and "whats very soon about to come" of the current disruptions in the AI technology, I feel increasingly lost. The only upside on a personal level is, that I am as fit physically as I have ever been, since I was thinking about things AIs cant do for us, "improving my own body" comes to mind. Idk even what I want to say here, I am kinda deflated, in a dark place rn.
AI in the short term will allow us to become 100x engineers/creators. Ideas you think up that may take a ton of time and resources to bring to life could take a fraction of that with modern AI. With revolutions like these it's best to not get bogged down on what is "lost", it was never about building the world by hand for eternity. Even after the industrial revolution, you still have people making pottery by hand for the fun of it. What makes you happy and what allows world progress to accelerate can be separate. The future is bright.
Does the existence of Photoshop and countless brilliant computer artistry software prevent artists from having fun with a plain old brush and a canvas? No
Does the existence of countless audio mixer and synthesis programs with autotune and beat matching prevent artists from having fun with plain old acoustic guitars and pianos? No
Your not looking at things right, youll be able to explore and learn about yourself. Plus it will be harder for governments, corporations and people to take advantage of each other.
It's Jesus you need my friend
@@aceman0000099 I've heard that argument before and I kind of disagree with it. Photoshop, mixers etc were really tools in the most classical sense: so if you had no skills and creativity, they were absolutely useless and you could not make anything with them. But AI intervenes on a completely different plane of the process. In short (and not always there yet, but soon): it takes vague ideas (especially with prompt engineering systems) and turns them into a finished product. It requires no more skill and years of practice but simple have a vague idea and the AI, in the best case, will even extrapolate your vague idea to match it to the ultimateley human-desired-form of it and turn it into a piece of art, music, software etc. You really skipped everything that gave you pupose, unlike photoshop or audiomixers where you still needed to do everything yourself, just like with any tool. So AI is not "just a new tool", it's something else entirely.

I've been trying to get into the software development field for the past five years, and I've NEVER seen such a bad job market as we're having this year. Too many bootcamps churning out too many grads all vying for a vanishing number of "entry level" jobs.
this was gonna be my year, after procastinating due to unmedicated ADHD for years. finally all the knowledge and drive accrued and by the end of 2022 I was optimistic about my prospects. I was fmonths deeps into intermediate to advanced programming concepts, learning more about frameworks, data structures, leetcode, doing projects...
then chatgpt came and all the doom and gloom about many industries being replaced by a fucking parrot, the job market got worse and worse too... worse part? my plan B was always doing illustrations and art, selling whatever, making a videogame. but that too is gonna disappear even faster!

Just be constantly searching for ways to build things that you can make money from and continue to apply for jobs, its not impossible to land something. And by building things in your spare time you stay motivated, they might not make any money but learn from the failure and take it to the next idea. I swear I'm trying to build something new every week and when i realise the idea might not be working I just look for the next thing.
@@AkaThePistachiohow do you make money with web development?
Well thats a tough question to answer, and I would expand it beyond web development. The best way is to identidy a niche and tap into that market. Maybe its a task you do everyday that could be automated. But the thing is you need to research what else exists in that market, how do they monetise it and is it worth the time to try and compete with them.
If not then you need a new idea. Ive started building something then reaslied very quickly its not gonna be worth the time so i switch my focus and try to find something new. Im young and learning new things every day so these setbacks dont bother me. You dont get rich overnight and making money from building apps isnt easy. But every failed project is insight on how to do better next time. I didnt really answer your question but I hope what ive said is helpful and can help you in some way. @@diddlenfiddle7311

I think it's an easter egg. For it too be this vague.
This format of video is the only coding content I consume these days. Never stop.
This one was very well done 👏
AI is kind of making me rethink if I should keep doing this programming thing. I'm not that impressed with ChatGPT and Bard's ability to create code, but it's clear as day they don't represent the zenith of AI chatbots. New models will keep coming one after the other, a little better than the other. Eventually it won't matter whether we're dealing with AGI or not because they'll be able to optimize and debug everything you throw at it.
Also, unlike with crypto/blockchain/web3, this time the whole tech industry seems to be dead set on developing everything around AI. It is the future, and that makes me wonder what the heck I'll be doing in front of the computer. Prompt engineering? Will that be a real thing? Developing AI tools until the tools themselves make me irrelevant?
Legit considering learning woodworking or something.
AI is making it easier. I think in the long run AI will serve as a level of abstraction that makes development more productive. It’s unclear what effect that will have on software employment in the medium term, tbh.
I'm sure embedded systems works will be safe from AI for a decent bit, as long as you can understand pointers
You're overlooking a lot of limitations in the AI scene. One of the most basic challenges to upscaling AI to the level you're afraid of is how computationally intensive it currently is, let alone bigger models that produce much larger outputs. It's extremely demanding. The available quality data the AI can be trained on is also depleting, and you also have the problem of hallucinations that don't seem to be fixable. My bet is that you will have a place in the programming scene with AI being a tool in your toolbox.
My bet is that some people will have a place. But op ain't one

I also just graduated but I was fortunate enough to do a year long internship as part of my degree and that has really helped to open a lot of doors, companies have an abundance of talent to pick from and those that have experience will land interviews much easier, do anything you can to get experience, build up your portfolio etc because simply having a degree isn't enough these days
Life as a developer at a non-software company (financial sector, service sector, manufacturing, etc) is still good, and will be good for a while. Mid-size business are going to be very conservative when incorporating AI into the enterprise. Developers are already using it for code gen (I haven't, but it's tempting), and the short-term consequences will be a boost in productivity that will make management happy. Early on, IT departments will slow or halt adding new jobs (unless the company is undergoing rapid growth), but eventually they will reduce the number of employees through attrition. I think it's going to take some time before midsize non-software companies start actually eliminating existing employees because of AI. It will happen, but I think that's well more than 10 years out.

We still need developers and there is eons of legacy code and projects that need maintaining written in god knows how many different programming languages and technologies.
