i learned how to rapel at a young age and i remember when the person was teaching me about holding the rope with your right hand. and so i kept holding it and was going down fine and then he said “let go of your right hand and then grab it again.” so i let go because he didn’t say what would happen just that you shouldn’t let go. so i let go and started freefalling and then caught myself. then he said “that’s why you hold it with your right hand the whole time.” i did learn why you never let go. and for people wondering the more experienced person goes first because once you are at the bottom of the rapel you can hold the line and stop the free fall, it’s called fireman’s hold. it’s what the instructor did with me, so i wasn’t in any serious danger. as a newcomer it’s always weird to have the better people go first because you’re left atop the cliff alone and having to remember what they said which is always freaky.
I've done a bit of rappelling (not from a height like that or anything near as dangerous) but those first steps when you have to lean back and just trust in the rope is the scariest part once your moving your fine its just that initial moment of convincing yourself to step backwards is the worst feeling.
This is the closest we’re gonna get to a war machine solo film.
