Good video, but I'm still a bit confused on how to use my Taylor test kit. I have the K-2006 version and the first yellow bottle is powder instead of liquid. When it says the water should change to pink how pink? I'm probably over thinking this test kit, but it is fun to learn at least!
Exactly. I have the same kit and the chlorine test is so confusing I don’t even know which line for sample water, 25 or 10? This video didn’t help me in the least bit.
@@toddlevick6016 I actually figured it out by just using the kit a ton of times. It starts to make more sense as you use it. My advice, don't read too much of the book at first because it can be pretty confusing. Just stick with the instructions on the bottom of the lid. That should help you get started with the tests and then you'll understand more of what the book is talking about. To answer your question, you can use either water line for chlorine, basically only use the 10ml line if you already think you have a lot of chlorine.... I've only used that one time right after shocking my pool...so to make it easy just use the 25ml line. I put 2 scoops of the powder in (try not to get water in or on the bottle). I then put the cap on and give it a shake, if it doesn't turn pink that basically means you have no chlorine!(not good). It usually will turn some shade of pink, you then use the 2nd bottle and just add one drop at a time until the water looks clear. The number of times you add drops to make it clear is basically how you calculate how much free chlorine is in your pool. If you filled the test vial to the 25ml line you multiply the # of drops by 0.2 to give you how much parts per million of chlorine are in your pool. Hope that helps, it seems confusing at first but the more you test using the instructions on the lid it should get easier
astrogeek1000 Thank you. Yes it all made sense finally. After figuring that all out I’ve come to the conclusion that my pool is way out of whack..lol. .4 combined, .6 free, 30 ppm alkaline. 20 ppm calcium hardness yet PH is in normal range. Then it appeared my salt cell wasn’t working at all. Was getting Voltage but 0 amps. Took it off and cleaned it, put it back, got my amps back so decided to put it on super chlorinate and now I got white film on top as I saw white cloud coming out all the jets. So it’s either working like never before now or I’m screwed..lol

I could easily tell the water was bleached out but did I see an acidic reading on the pH? What do you do? waste some water out and just dilute it with fresh water? or, do you just go with chemical gone or something similar to reduce the chlorine?
easiest way, is to dilute with water , or if there's a lack of water try leaving the pool cover off, and stopping production of chorine . and importantly check your alkalinity (sodium bicarinate or baking soda) as low levels will give you false readings of chorine. also note adding alkaline to pool raises the ph. so adding hydrochloric acid will be needed to lower it back to 7.4 or 7.8 if concrete pool, you will need to wait till the alkalinity has spread usually 30mins can be 10mins depending on pool size and pump size, as the fight each other can be quite annoying if guessing amounts also remember there two chorine level to checks total and free , total chorine is the bad and good chorine in a pool , the bad chorine is that smelly chorine smell most commonly at pubic pools this is chorine that has been used to kill bacteria in pool . free chorine is the chorine availably to kill any new bacteria. both will damage the pool if levels are too high, and cyanic acid is sun block for the chorine, keeps the sun from breaking it down if cyanic acid level are too high you will also get false reading, adding water will dilute cyanic acid levels add less chemicals as you can add more in half an hour etc rather than draining and filling your pool, if the level are close it will be fine don't be to anal
