- An explosive version of 'Hocus Pocus', when Jan Akkerman and band performed at 't-oude Pothuys' venue in Utrecht, The Netherlands, on Saturday, February 13rd, 2010. The hugely enthusiastic audience was packed tight, right up to the front of the stage, and the band was in top form, clearly visible here, during this fine performance.

I would say probably the greatest guitarist that most people have not heard about. I myself only heard about him 5 years ago. And he's damn close to the top for those of us who have heard of him!!

I remember when this came out he was shown as one of the greatist guitarists. Now because he gets no airtime worldwide hes is totally forgotten. I mentioned this guitarist to Rick Beato on his rundown of 70 guitarist and wasnt even acknowledged.

He still keeps me amazing. He masters all the skills and styles at the highest level. Electric guitar, Spanish guitar, lute, bass guitar. Fingerpicking, using the pick, rasguados, tremolo. Rock, jazz, classical music etc. etc. Astonishing...
1970 was already full of great rock music and I was learning riffs from Ritchie Blackmore and Jimmy Page when I heard Hocus Pocus and was mesmerised by Jan Akkermans's different style and speed. Big fan for life, thanks for keeping me Focused on music that means something.
Heartwarming to see this Landgenoot after so many years. My students in Djakarta, Indonesia turned me unto his music, in 1973. Listening to this in a wrinkle in Idaho, us, now. En dan speelt hij nog in mijn oude woonplaats, zo lang geleden toen Nederland nog grijs and zwart was, met veel regels, 1950's. Party on Wayne. Bedankt
I was there!! I'm from Chile, I went to the Netherlands as a grad student and I had been a big fan of Focus for a long time. It must have been only three days that I first arrived to Utrecht and I saw this gig coming! It was fucking mind blowing. Jan is a fucking monster guitar player, and OMG his tone!!! Needless to say anything about his songwriting, Janis is one of my favorites. Long live Jan Akkerman!!

This is CRAZY great! I love what he did in place of Thijs Van Leer’s incomparable parts. It was a very clever and affectionate nod to his old pal. Jan still has it. He smoked on that guitar!
This is amazing. Maybe one of the most underrated guitarists of all time. Hocus Pocus brings me back to to the 70's, hearing it on the radio in my parents car enough to make a lasting impression. Was never er sure why, I always figured it was the yodeling. Looking back now, this was my introduction to hard rock, and why at 55, I am still a metalhead. Thank you Focus.

I remember hearing this over 40 years ago for the first time...I IMMEDIATELY bought EVERYTHING they produced....Focus and its members stand alone....
Saw their first UK tour way back in '71....upstaged Status Quo fucking unbelievable. Nobody knew what hit them.

Hi Tim, not sure how old you are. I am 69 and remember when this was released. Jan Akkerman was at that time and probably still is one of the greatest guitarist of all time.
(in my opinion). Hope you are as young as I was when this when I first heard this. You certainly have good taste. I wish you all the best.

I saw Focus in 72 . Jan was the best guitarist I have ever seen and I'm 63 so I've seen a few and like Hendrix he is a masterful rhythm player . The Dutch has given the world some great ones , i.e. Van Halen and Kaz Lux , Golden Earring etc.

Not only was this modded by Paul Hamer, but the guitar was seriously damaged and lay unused for 20 years. Jan found it and had it repaired about 5 or 6 years ago and has shared duty with his Custom ever since.
