The problem with the "Ramaphosa was set up" thesis is that if he knew how to be presidential he should have taken the country into his confidence and publicly stated his case months ago. The DA encouraged him to do that because he had goodwill among the people. Rather he chose not to speak on the matter and make a confidential statement to an inquiry. Now it's not about whether he has been found guilty in a court [remember Mbeki was set up too and later cleared of all wrongdoing by the courts] but whether the country still has any confidence in his leadership.
Mabuza led the Mpumalanga province with great honor. Millions from that province are business people because of his empowerment initiatives.

Ramaphosa is smart, he knows what he is dealing with and if he releases his true side of the story they will go to extreme lengths to manipulate his side of story which might make him look guilty. So his aim is to beat them at their own game. We know how the public think, we are so lazy to reason that we accept anything that is said whether is manipulated or not.
He cannot afford allowing them to contaminate his side of the story. That is why he is so confident that the law should take it's cause. We know in the justice system not everyone like him but the law is the law and should he be innocent it will be difficult to manipulate the process as everyone is watching with interest. The story painted does not seem to be the true reflection of what happened, by Ramaphosa or those who are accusing him and i think Ramaphosa is doing it on purpose to expose their plans with time
