I watched a UA-cam documentary on outsider music and Wesley Willis’s name came up. I started to investigate and listen to his music more and more. I like what I hear! The man was different, of course but I believe he’s a genius. I initially got turned onto outsider music because at first it was a “thus is so bad it’s good” type situation and I was secretly poking fun at it. Outsider music was a terrible inside joke and a guilty pleasure no one else understood but me. But the more you listen, the more you realize that talent or the interpretation of what talent is, is different for different people. This type of music would never be considered successful or mainstream in any way but that doesn’t mean there wasn’t any deep or meaningful thought behind it. Making this music took effort and that effort means something. That solo was completely nuts, by the way! It was melodic and chaotic at the same time. I thoroughly enjoyed it!
