Well done....found it very much interesting and the actual location of Fred’s grave in relation to the sites he filmed in Tonge grave yard in 1983 .Will visit one day. Thanks for posting. A Fred Dibnah fan ....luckily we have film footage of the man were he lives forever. 👏👍🙋🏻♂️🏴
Hi Mr H, I'm deano from skelmersdale its Tuesday 30 December 2019, I have only just found your Fred Dibnah tribute Documentary Films and I like watching them. I chat on messenger to leon who owns his house now and then like you another Great fella to know. Everything you do keeps the memories of who fred was and it's just great an ordinary fella a local like yourself has took time & effort out your days to go make these films for us to watch on here. Also I will go to the pie shop with my wife as you done. Thank you Mr H & happy new year to you and your wife and family for 2020 .from me Deano
When I watched your other vid about Fred's grave, I had the thought that you should do this exact video, and find the locations where they filmed. And you did it! Bravo.
Cheers Bonnie, glad that you enjoyed the video. It looks like the cemetery is better maintained today than it was back in 1983 when Fred appeared in the original documentary which is unusual as standards tend to decline with time rather than improve.
Yeah Fred Dibnah did most of his television work for the BBC Phar Cyde, and it's good to hear that his documentaries are being shown and enjoyed over there in the States. Glad that you enjoyed the video and thanks for commenting. Cheers. 👍
Hi Janette, and apologies for only just replying to you. It's great to hear that you enjoy watching my video's and it's also refreshing to hear someone apperciate the off camera work that goes into making a video. Many thanks for your comment and kind words, enjoy the rest of your day/evening and all the best.
Hi Onelonelyfarmer, good to know old Fred is being appreciated across the pond. He would have liked that! To play on his famous catchphrase. He's still viewed as a working class hero by many in the UK especially people living in the North of England in and around he town he was brought up in. Sadly men in the UK like Fred Dibnah who are not afraid of either hard work or speaking their mind are a rare breed now in these politically correct times that we live in.
Thanks Alan, I quite enjoyed making this 'then & now' style of video and I may do some more of them at some point or include the effect where possible when I use period photographs in my future history related videos. This video was fun to film as the locations themselves were both easy enough to find and match up the editing did take a while so it's nice of you to acknowledge the editing as that was the hardest part of this video. All the best. 👍
Cheers Ben, glad to hear that you enjoyed this video as it was fun to do. 👍 Personally speaking after matching up the still images from 1983 with how they look today I think that they keep the cemetery in better condition than they did back in 1983 and old Fred would be proud.
great video its a while since i went Fred's grave always nice seeing the cemetery on video . would be good to do a Ena Mill location from the ups and downs of chimneys sometime if you can . and maybe where Era Mill was at rochdale as shown in Fred Dibnah Steeplejack 1978 ,its going . keep these great vids coming .
Cheers Potcheen, and thanks for the sub. 👍 Surprisingly these locations were very easy to find and not very far from Tonge Cemetery gates. Presumably either the film crew or Fred was on a tight schedule or it was a spur of the moment idea as the cemetery interview appears to have been done in one take and completely adlib which is when Fred was at his best.
I like the cut o your jib dude...i was a kid the first time i saw Fred on TV "laddering a chimney"....blew me away. I still watch endless repeats of his documentaries...they dont make folk like Fred anymore. Anyway, peace to ya.
BRILLIANT ! CLEVER LITTLE FOOTAGE / GHOST'S ! REALLY DO EXIST ! IF YOU LOOK FOR THEM ! ON FILM THAT IS / LUV UR EDITED CLIP'S OF FRED AND LOCATION'S THEN AND NOW / BRAVO ROY.
Hi Mate Isaw youtube were Fred's wife was on (Shelia) were his sheds were ramsacked and 1 off the engines (Betsy) someone had removed the name plate a man hardly cold in his grave for this to happen
Hi John, yes it was both sad and disgusting how Fred's yard and sheds were plundered soon after his death. However in a twist of irony Fred himself caused this by leaving behind a complicated will which forced his third wife (Sheila) to vacate the property and left her with nothing. Naturally she contested his will as his surviving spouse and a long legal battle began as to who should get what, during which Fred's home had to legally sit empty leaving it vulnerable to thieves and vandals as the case slowly made it's way through the system. I've heard all kinds of heartbreaking stories regarding this period when Fred's home sat empty such as his tools being stolen and taken down to the nearest scrap yard to be sold for their scrap metal value by the local ne'er do wells desperate for money. If true we can only hope that the money never did them any good. ☹
Love this video.....but at 5:29 there is no large tree in the background!....which is a little odd...unless its the angle....aint no tree gonna grow that large that quick.........plus there are quite a lot of white crosses in the earlier frames......anyway....great video 🙂
It’s about focal length. Any trained camera operator knows. That’s the problem with amateurs trying to shoot video. Put simply, if you want to make things appear closer or more compressed stand further away and use and zoom in. If you want more depth move closer and widen your shot by zooming out. You are only constrained by your knowledge.
Hi Phar Cyde, and apologies for only just replying to you. Yes we thoroughly enjoyed our recent vacation to Florida. My little lad loved it and we'll definitely be back again at some point in the future but sadly for now it's back to the daily grind. Many thanks for commenting and asking after us. All the best. 👍
You were brave standing by that grave stone you could end up being buried in there like fred. Enjoy the video was spooky to think fred was buried not far away from that spot.
Hi Paul, unfortunately I never met Fred Dibnah personally other than a brief "How do!" from him back in 92 so I can't comment but from what others have said on my other Fred Dibnah related videos who have met him said they found him to be the exact opposite. Maybe you caught him on a bad day?
Well we wasn't there John, so we'll just have to take Paul's word for it. It's also worth noting that if Paul met Fred in the later years of his life after he had been diagnosed with bladder cancer then Fred would have had his off days and not been his usual self due to tiredness, treatment or a combination of both. Those who met Fred on his off days will have a different impression of him than those who met him before his illness.
1983 looked so much better please take me back there.
Well done....found it very much interesting and the actual location of Fred’s grave in relation to the sites he filmed in Tonge grave yard in 1983 .Will visit one day. Thanks for posting. A Fred Dibnah fan ....luckily we have film footage of the man were he lives forever. 👏👍🙋🏻♂️🏴

5:32 when Fred is talking about him being buried in the cemetary, did you notice he looked over his shoulder to the spot where he's actually buried?
Love this video.....but at 5:29 there is no large tree in the background!....which is a little odd...unless its the angle....aint no tree gonna grow that large that quick.........plus there are quite a lot of white crosses in the earlier frames......anyway....great video 🙂
That's spooky..... Wow
Great video but you missed the broken stones in the river
Great job and very interesting. It’s too bad Fred didn’t get the kind of grave marker he wanted. Do you know if he made good money from his tv work?
They don't make em like Fred anymore.
It’s about focal length. Any trained camera operator knows. That’s the problem with amateurs trying to shoot video. Thanks for the camera tips Jon Jon, I'll bear them in mind for the future. Enjoy the rest of your day and all the best. 👍
I love his accent.

Met him a couple of times, arrogant or what!!!

Don't know about arrogance but he did have a reputation of being rather tight fisted when it was his turn to get the ale in.
They didn't have good weed eaters back then like today, most were hand tool weed Wackers
They don’t look real
