In November of 2023 I had a late term miscarriage and lost a baby girl I had been deeply waiting for. I felt deep in my heart that she would come back to me soon, as if she were telling me herself that she was only leaving for a moment and to wait for her. I had listened to this song while I was pregnant and after the loss it was devastating to hear it again. I would sit in the shower and sing it while I cried, trying to hold on to the hope that she was coming back. In January 2024 I got pregnant again and had my little girl in September 2024. I sang this to her all through the pregnancy and now as she is with me. No matter how upset she is, singing her this calms her. I will forever hold this song in my heart and soul. It was given to me in my most vulnerable time and it felt predestined for my daughter and I, for us to know that we belong to each other, in a way nothing else belongs to us.
Thus made me cry. My partner lost ours after about a month so we didn’t know the gender. She got pregnant about 18 months later and we had our girl. So this is very close to home. I’m very happy for you. She came back for sure ❤️
This concept is so beautiful. The idea that we don't own anything at all is something I think about a lot, we are just temporary stewards of all our possessions, but the love we feel for ourselves and others truly belongs to us.
I tend to not even think of our thoughts, feelings, allegiances, or much of anything as "ours". Those things are even more ephemeral than our limited physical existences.
I love how you phrased it. My initial reaction was around capitalism- our lack of ownership despite our labor (which have been themes in previous albums). But I really love your take, too.
i love how simple but impactful this video is. mitski balancing on something so unstable while talking about how she is reclaiming love for her self is *chefs kiss*
The chairs represent the chairs she could have kicked out from under herself. The egg represents how life could have kicked that chair out from under her at any moment, and how fragile stability really is, but she kept stacking the chairs... and the noose lost. 😊

I think this is really interesting!!! I think of this song not as a love for oneself or a lover, but love in general. It could be either of those things or it could be love for a season or a friend or place or the feeling of just being happy.
I think it is very self-liberating, thinking of all the love you put out into the world as a reflection of the love you have, and could have, for yourself ("mine, all mine"). It makes me think of those situations where you feel as though all is lost and you're on your own, and then you remember that no, you've got something left--your love, which is "[yours] all [yours]", and no matter what insults or doubts others plant into you, nothing can take your self-deserved love away from you.
Also the idea of love being put into an undeserving place over and over again, trying to love someone, to turn a new page, to fix a relationship you have (familial, for me personally), only for it not to amount to anything but a draining outlet from your side, resonates with me. So, this song means to me about finding comfort in knowing that love doesn't have to be such an uncontrollable force you could only access when reciprocated from others, but something you have control over directing inwards. Looking at your past self, empathizing with them, and caring for their present body, and appreciating your living being in the same way you've longed for others to.

I didn't know much about Mitski. Just heard her songs randomly while scrolling. But when my cat died i replayed this song over and over. Mitski can really capture great emotions in her songs. I now listen and have added a few of her songs to my playlist :) Thank you Mitski ❤
crying a little bc now we have a mitski song we can affectionately nickname "my love" 😭😭😭 UPDATE AFTER MV RELEASE: "To love is truly the best and most beautiful thing I ever did." - Mitski, explaining the song "My Love Mine All Mine" This song isn't necessarily about a specific person that you love and that you can call yours, but rather the concept of love itself. The fact that nothing truly stays, material things will eventually leave you and even your body will deteriorate once you die, so not much can really be considered yours. But something that *can* be considered yours is love, love that is yours as long as you will it to be. Love that can be shared that even when you aren't around, it can still "shine" on others just as how the moon shines for everyone from up above. I think that's also what is depicted in the music video, the stall stack of chairs and the highest chair on top representing the moon. When she moves from her chair at the bottom and climbs to the top, it is representative of her offering her love up to the moon, so that the love can shine on others far beyond herself. And when she looks out while she's at the top, she can see the hint of a bright sunrise over the open waters. Once you decide to share that love, you can see the bright impact it has on others, but aside from that, it also allows you personally to see the world a little bit brighter, and lets you open your world up to the effects of this love. If I were to choose one word to encapsulate TLIIASAW, it would actually be "love", and I think this is song is the thesis of the album, and has been described to be its core song by other sources. This is actually what is in her current Spotify bio: "The best thing I ever did in my life was to love people. I wish I could leave behind all the love I have after I die, so I can shine all this goodness, all this love that I've created onto other people." An album that feels like a love that's haunting the land.
The broken egg symbolizes loss, and entropy states we cannot go back… to where it was whole. However, when she pulls the he flower out of the egg, it shows that she can make something beautiful from a broken thing. Love this song 🪑
I absolutely adore that starting imagery of the yellow dandelion coming out of the egg at the start: even when something is newly born it still has so much to transform - not only does it render the video cyclical, but it shows how when we reach our "breaking point" (likely suggested by the egg breaking under the pressure of the chairs) and we are reborn from our own ashes, we can still develop and change
I turned 100 this year, sitting here in the basement of my house and listening to this song very loudly through my speakers. Thank you for this wonderful evening!
I once dedicated this song to "my love." I dont know if youre in love, you will let them break you and start breaking yourself as well. but that was all in the past. What I have right now is my quiet love for that person. I stopped living once, but for me to be able to forgive is to really forgive myself.
Mitski's music videos feel more like short films than just pretty pictures to accompany her music. This video doesn't need the song to make sense, but the song and the video compliment each other and I feel that they convey the message that she's trying to get across very well. She's very skilled in her artistry and I really like being able to experience her art.
The idea to climb up all the chairs is amazing. The way i interpret it is, sitting down on a chair is easy. Everyone can sit. But not her. She has to climb up all the most differently chairs just so she can finally be seen. But still, her love is all hers. No one sees it, no one appreciates it. Its so do creative. At least thats how i would understand it.
At first, hearing the chorus I thought she was singing about a lover or object of affection, but hearing it in full and watching the video i'm realizing she's talking about herself. "nothing in the world belong to me" - she's used to feeling lonely even surrounded by people. lovers, friends and even family come and go and don't really stay in her life forever. she also mentions mortality and dying in the first verse, maybe realizing her mortality after a family member has passed or because of a breakup. "but my love is mine all mine" - in the aftermath of loss she realizes she only has herself and the love and self-fulfillment she feels from living truly as herself that can keep her living another day. it's such a beautiful song for self-love and independence. In the video she's building chairs to get to the top and in the end it's presumed to get a better view of the moon. Perhaps the character thinks by getting closer to the moon she'll obtain what she wants (love that never ends, companionship, never having to be alone) but she's kept the chairs together held by a fragile egg at the bottom. I think the egg could mean a fragile relationship with a lover, or an overdependence on other people in general. It's the first time I'm hearing this song outside of social media, and hearing the lyrics I'm blown away.
the chair represents suicidal thoughts and the egg represents heartbreak. The video shows how difficult it is to overcome those suicidal thoughts and your loss and finally pull your life together. It is an optimistic video because in the end Mitski finally finds the perfect balance of her life with everything that she has gone through including her heartbreak. This also goes to show how trauma makes the balance of life very unstable and makes recovery highly challenging. I gotta say that this video's symbolism is absolutely genius!
this was the last song I played to my grandmother who took care of me ever since my mom died, now i don't think I'll ever find the strength to play this once again. i just got a call that she's already gone... rest well in paradise grandma 🥺
It's always darkest before the dawn. As a Grandma's baby myself, take assured that ur grandmother isn't any pain nor suffering anymore. It's our burden that we bare. But take in refuge that all of her stories, life and love are ur memories of her. Be blessed with that knowledge. I don't know u,but I understand where ur coming from. We truly don't grow up until our parents/grandparents pass on. Growing up sucks at times and I know that this is hard for u. Just remember who she was and how she would respond. Keep her words close to ur heart so every time it beats, she speaks. Take care,my friend.
@marit3079 i dunno.. Lana del Rey is the OG, she invented the style. I feel like she could only cover previous OG classics like she did with Leonard Cohen and others. Tbh this feels to me as Lana Lite, ersatz Lana 😅 why would she cover a song that’s basically a rip-off of her own style? But I am ready to admit I’m wrong 😅
@@lililangtry1881 tbh mitski is a lot more personal than lana del rey. Mitski also covers many more topics in her songs and has a broader song selection than Lana. Also Lana's problematic, so i prefer to forget about her.
This made me tear up it sounds like a lullaby a mother singing to her child about how she loves her i lost my mom in 2020 due to covid and this made me really miss her. Edit:Thank you guys so much for all the love and support ❤️
this is my favorite song on the album and this video really struck something in me. the way i interpreted this at least is that youre putting in so much effort for this love and building up all of this trust (the chairs) on something so vulnerable and fragile (the egg) which symbolizes this new beginning. its putting all you have into this new beginning and trusting it wont break under the pressure. and the contrast with the song saying that all you truly have is this love within you to have but also to give, where as in the video we see another side of the situation where its precarious. shes climbing this dangerous tower of chairs that is being held up by again that fragile hope. and while it lasts its so serene. its so beautiful. really loved it. beautiful work.

I first heard this song around the time my pup of almost 16 years was diagnosed with an aggressive cancer. I imagine these are the words she has for me. We just said goodbye last night. I will listen to this song whenever I need a reminder that she is with me, shining down on me through that hole in the sky. ❤ Your love was mine all mine too, baby girl.

My heart breaks for you, we had to put down our dog this year as well. Times pass and surely you won’t think about it quick as often, but a piece of your heart is still missing for the pet…
This song makes me want to dance with my husband on the balcony at 3AM. The moon is hovering over the sky while this song plays quietly in the distance. Simply beautiful.

This song is very painful for people who knew how to love someone so much with their life and their heart and in the end they left them for someone else. Less or more printing than us but that's life 😭❤
It is so good, it’s an embodiment of ART. Song is definitely an earworm, I physically cannot stop thinking about it. This video is pure joy for my soul. I interpreted is as she’s trying to reach the moon to give heart to it, so her love could outlive her and shine for her loved ones. About the egg. For me it’s like giving everything to make relationships work, even the most fragile part. At the beginning we see the egg cracked. Maybe it was a sneak peak, something that happened when that chair thing haven’t worked. She was deserted, but realised there is hope for her, beauty of living, there is still something that life can offer - that flower represents it. And the flower was hidden in the egg that she brought all along, which probably means that hope, new meaning was always with her. She just wasn’t able to see it then. GOD, that was a real shot in the arm!
I lost my best friend/platonic soulmate 9 years ago, the pain never stops but it becomes manageable and easier to cope after a while. This song really helps me, too! I’m sorry for your loss, my condolences. May he or she rest in paradise. ❤️🩹
My name is Luna too! From this Luna to yours-you’re doing great. Depression is a bitch, but we always come through in the end. Wishing you a nice day, Internet Stranger ✨

this song makes me feel something i havent felt in years. the ocmforting voice and melody of mitski, almost like singing a lullaby to a child. its like some part of me heals the tiniest bit everytime i hear this song
I really want to thank you Mitsky. We often get lost in everyday life but you remind me to love myself every time I listen to you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart..which is what vibrates most when I hear this song ❤ The Universe bless you ⚘
the egg shows the fragile heartbreak - the love you hold for someone else or yourself shattering. the egg is the foundation, the base for the work it takes (aka the chairs, which you also resent) to feel love again, whether it’s for yourself or someone else. when you feel a love so powerful it’s easy for it to become overwhelming, like youre drowning in it. but the work you put in (stacking the chairs) only builds the hope that you return to a state like before (the sound of waves and eagles showing serenity at the beginning and end) love is work, but it’s also yours. just my interpretation
I love your interpretation but she actually explained in an interview. She explained of all the material things we keep on earth what’s actually hers … and for her that’s love. The song is about wanting to leave that love behind when she dies, which we all will.
Listening this song for the first time when I'm all alone go back to home from uni with bus because my dad is passing away. Idk how many times i cried in the bus

Hi mitski, I know you won't read this, but I wanted you to know that this song has motivated me through many times, good and bad. I showed the song to my psychologist and said that this song brings me comfort, I love you!
My earliest memories are not pleasant ones. Just trauma after trauma. For 3 years now, it’s been Hell. Now I’m going through health issues. I’m not sure of the outcome. I recently heard this song and the comfort it made me feel.. I instantly thought of my two children. My oldest will soon be 10 and my baby will be a year old in a month. I dedicate this beautiful song to them. ❤❤
"The vulnerability and honesty in this song are just breathtaking. Mitski has a way of capturing emotions that are often hard to put into words, and 'My Love Mine All Mine' feels like a delicate confession. The visuals in the video beautifully complement the melancholic yet hopeful tone of the lyrics. It's a reminder that love-however fragile-is still something powerful and deeply personal. Thank you, Mitski, for giving us a piece of your heart through this masterpiece. 🌙💖"
The video is simple yet impactful; the message is profound. Her voice is heartbreakingly emotional. The backtrack music is pleasant, relaxing, and sweet. The lyrics are meaningful. Mitski is art. I appreciate every release she's made. (p.s. I hope she makes more folk-ish music soon)
I feel like the symbolism of the egg at the beginning, shattering represents a lack of self-worth, and then being placed unbreakable beneath the stack of chairs later on towards the end, signifies the journey to self-love. It beautifully shows that when we embrace our self and foster self-love, nothing can break us. Thank you for this beautiful song, Mitski. 'Nothing in the world belongs to me but my love, mine all mine.’ 🤍

Weakest shit sheever made , let's be honest now
@@DramaBoy-yk9vx who asked
crying a little bc now we have a mitski song we can affectionately nickname "my love" 😭😭😭
UPDATE AFTER MV RELEASE:
"To love is truly the best and most beautiful thing I ever did." - Mitski, explaining the song "My Love Mine All Mine"
This song isn't necessarily about a specific person that you love and that you can call yours, but rather the concept of love itself.

Mitski hates it when people cry to her songs.
The broken egg symbolizes loss, and entropy states we cannot go back… to where it was whole. However, when she pulls the he flower out of the egg, it shows that she can make something beautiful from a broken thing. Love this song 🪑

can't believe this song is going to be 2 years old very soon...
This is gorgeous. I'm going to print this comment and stick it on my wall!
My read is that the dandelion is the sun, and so much of the moon lyrics and imagery is in contrast…

Creep chord progression
I don't know what it is but there's something so enchanting about this song. I'll never not love this song.
HOW DO THEY DO THAT AND NOT FALL
I don't feel like it, the end of the video shows a lot of hope for that to be the end message...
And the egg at the bottom ❤
That's why she said mine all mine
You've said that really well. It's a touching song.
I love how you explained this. Thank you so much. 🩷
@@leilanisandoval20 im glad you found it helpful!
Excellent interpretation ❤
the chair represents suicidal thoughts and the egg represents heartbreak.
Wow, I love your interpretation.

@@lililangtry1881 tbh mitski is a lot more personal than lana del rey. Mitski also covers many more topics in her songs and has a broader song selection than Lana. Also Lana's problematic, so i prefer to forget about her.

Sending love my love my all mine to you
This is exactly what I thought.
this is my favorite song on the album and this video really struck something in me. the way i interpreted this at least is that youre putting in so much effort for this love and building up all of this trust (the chairs) on something so vulnerable and fragile (the egg) which symbolizes this new beginning. its putting all you have into this new beginning and trusting it wont break under the pressure. and the contrast with the song saying that all you truly have is this love within you to have but also to give, where as in the video we see another side of the situation where its precarious. shes climbing this dangerous tower of chairs that is being held up by again that fragile hope. and while it lasts its so serene. its so beautiful.
really loved it. beautiful work.

GOD, that was a real shot in the arm!

i knew this song was gonna be great, but this exceeded my expectations. you're amazing, Mitski. Amazing.
the egg shows the fragile heartbreak - the love you hold for someone else or yourself shattering. the egg is the foundation, the base for the work it takes (aka the chairs, which you also resent) to feel love again, whether it’s for yourself or someone else. when you feel a love so powerful it’s easy for it to become overwhelming, like youre drowning in it. but the work you put in (stacking the chairs) only builds the hope that you return to a state like before (the sound of waves and eagles showing serenity at the beginning and end) love is work, but it’s also yours.
